Very nice video very formative.!
Loved this mini holder, have the big one, but didnt k now she had a smaller one. Love it
Thanks for watching.
Nurse here. If you use transpore tape, remove it after using and clean the back of the ruler with liquid soap or rubbing alcohol. That stuff will STICK and will be hard to get off if you just leave it.
How big will this be with 2 layer cakes I am going on a retreat in Australia next month and this is what I want to make once again thank you for your amazing lesson Janice
@@janiceball5860 with one layer cake and a yard and a half of one extra fabric I made two twin size quilts and a lap quilt. I added borders to all.
I have just found you and I am hooked on your show please can you tell me how I buy the triangle ruler you used as I would love to by it. Thank you showing me how I can use my layer cakes
The clearly perfect angles can be purchased at New Leaf Stitches or by following the links in the description box.
I bought an Oliso and it broke. I dealt with the company and was treated very rudely. The eventually replaced it but actually accused me of trying to get a free iron from them. I’m using the replacement but I agree, I could use and throw away a lot of black and decker irons for the price of one Oliso
In general, an iron is a simple machine. The oliso adds extra mechanics that are unnecessary and those types of items should be avoided in general. Technology is great but only if it makes sense. Thanks for watching.
WOW! That leaf quilt! You have taken the fear of fabric selection away from me - 🥳🎉
You can do it!
That's just really cute. I especially love the off-set poinsettia.
It’s a mini scrap petal garden quilt.
I appreciate that as I am watching and have a question in mind, you suddenly answer it :D You have been teaching awhile, haven't you? Really great tutorial. Also, you are talking about tools that I haven't heard anyone else mention - the Terial Magic, for one. Thanks! I ordered many items through your links, and picked up the petal template key chain off of your site. You are only an hour or so from us! Very cool.
You're very welcome! I’ve been teaching and designing for 21 years.
Don't know if you'll see this, but one of your videos said you were in NC. We are in VA on the NC border. I am praying that you weren't hit hard by Helene. 🙏🕊
We were spared here at Lake Gaston. Hope the same for you. West of us took the brunt of it all. Lots of donation efforts going on here to send west. Hope you faired well too.
I love it! I think I'll wait for the bias, until I'm more self-assured, but this makes it look doable AND that there's not reason to be afraid - just don't pull and tug LOL The last one with the sashing would be so pretty with a fabric I just bought for a Christmas quilt. It's a dark navy blue with small metalic golden stars. It would be like peeking through a window on a starry night :) AND we kids said we'd never use the Pythagorean theorem. My dad, as surveyor, just grinned at me. 🤣😆🤣
The only math I have ever understood was Geometry. Don't be afraid... just pull out your fabrics and stitch away. Thanks for watching.
Really helpful video. I saved it for later reference. I have watched others, and some were really good, but yours was calm, concise, and very easy to follow. I have the slotted trimmer, but it only came with one - I didn't know what I was doing when ordering it :D And, I did get a rotating mat, since I'm in an extremely small space. I've been a subscriber for a few months now, but hadn't seen this one yet. 👍👍👍😃
Thank you for watching. The Slotter Trimmer should definitely come with two pieces. Maybe check back with the company your ordered it from. Rotating mats are the best. Cheers.
Suggestion. Why not line the diagonal line on the ruler with the edge of the fabric when cutting the diagonal line?..
Some customers may not have a ruler large enough to use the diagonal line but if you have a way that works for you then you should stick with it. Thanks for watching.
Great vid! Thank you!😊
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching.
😂 why do you sound like one of the chipmunks you’re talking so fast I can’t even separate some of your words to make sense
Sounds to me like your UA-cam setting is set to speed up the video. Thanks for watching.
@@CabinQuilters Exactly what I was thinking - you sounded perfectly normal to me ;)
I “trimmed” a thin piece of my index finger because my fingertip was not completely on the ruler, even though I was cutting away from myself 😢
Oh no. That sounds awful. We definitely need to know where are fingertips are.
You made1/4 square triangle😮😮😮😮😮 The bias is different: 1/2 square has bias on the long side; 1/4 has bias on the two short sides .
They are half square triangles but you are correct. They are boas on both sides. Thanks for watching.
Love the versatility of half-square and quarter-square triangle pieces 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
They are great. Thanks for watching.
Use a printer, set to Greyscale (black only) and copy any medium value fabric to see just how “light” or “dark” your fabric is. This works especially well if you need 3-4 values, especially if using different colors, for your quilt. I used this for Lover’s Knot. I had a multicolor print and three colors. I was able to see there wasn’t much of a difference between the dark purple and medium green originally chosen, and so changed the green to one which read lighter. 😊
Great tip. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel
I decided to do dry iron only……using a spray/mist bottle.
That is my preferred method also.
Hello, This is Monica who attended your wonderful retreat in February. I am using the mini Rowenta first class. I love it. Cost is less than $40.
Excellent. Haven’t tried that one but glad you love it. Dry iron or do you fill it with water too?
I have had 2 Olisos and they both have been returned, because they stopped heating up. I have bought an old fashioned $29 heavy black and decker and love it.
Whatever works. Never buy a complex machine to do a simple task. Thanks for supporting the channel.
Were can I get that pattern? I just found your site. I would love to have this pattern. Thank u for any help you can give me. We’re can I purchase or download pattern. Thank you so much. 😊

Thank you for a wonderful and informative video. I too have a maven and love it , had a Rowena steam station $$$and it spit after a year using and to clean it , it was horrible. My maven is 3 years old and is used on a daily basis. Looking forward to more videos from you.
I’m a big fan. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel.
Very well done; good info. ❤

Me too. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
Great video - I too bought into the Oliso and dislike it immensely! Thanks so much for a great video. Can't wait for the rest!
@@garettwilson4738 thank so much for watching and supporting my channel.
So glad to come across this as I am in the market for a new iron. My present one is an auto shutoff and it makes it inconvenient.
Hope I gave you some great choices to consider.
I was trying to decide whether the gimmicky Oliso mini was worth it as I dropped my iron recently and it's definitely seen better days. Their prices here in Australia are ridiculous, so nope. I've heard great things about Reliable, but I'm not sure they're available here. I don't use steam, so I'll probably get another cheapie.
Just an opinion but save your money. I did see recently that Amazon has a rowenta that is similar to the reliable maven. Didn’t see the reviews but it has a separate tank. I do not typically use steam unless I am making my scrap petal garden quilt but the reliable has been a great new addition to the studio and gives me the option when I need it and I love that. Thanks for watching.
What a wonderful video! Soooo much information, thanks! Question….does the reliable maven cool down quickly like the other cordless iron that sits in its base, the Panasonic? The smaller maven is very tempting, but I would like it to stay hot. Thanks again.
Actually they go on pause but don’t immediately cool down. They are auto shutoff and won’t stay hot all day on their own.
Great video! Learned some great tricks.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching and supporting my channel.
Again another fantastic video. You perfectly addressed all my worries about bulky seams. And I'm definitely going to start using your pinning technique. Thank you so much. Wish I had found your videos sooner. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
They look great. Going to use your ideas. Tx.
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
Good video, clear & concise, to the point. Tx for that. I just did a quilt pattern I bought from another youtuber which was all HST. I made a conscious effort to press well and nest my seams, but frustrated that I have bulky seams where my blocks come together.(I have 20 large blocks made up of 9 HSTs). My first time making a quilt using HSTs. I thought about pressing my seams open, searched for videos on how to eliminate bulky seams, everyone presses to the side. You are the only one that pressed your HST seams open. Next time I'm doing that. One last comment - the template you used to trim your HSTs, I bought one too. I'm still a little unsure as to how to use the markings, but have saved your video to watch again. It was a little hard to see on the dark fabric you first showed it on. Again, great video. Thanks again. Watching from Ontario, Canada.
Thanks for watching and for the positive feedback. I will see if I can make a short video on using the template.
I started one this year. Hadn’t seen this pattern before mow and I love it. I even bought my fabric from FQS. I’ll have to see how I can use this pattern as I have 6 months already made. Fun.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
@@CabinQuilters I forgot to tell you, I’m coming there for a retreat in April. Maybe we can compare where how much we get done.

Really good tips. Do you have any close-up shots or illustrations of the pins across the seams?
