Base MacBook Air M2/M3 will handle basic to intermediate editing with ease. If you're concerned about being safe for years to come, I would consider looking at the refurbished section on the Apple site and look at an M1 MacBook Pro. Both will be your most budget friendly options.

That is one monstrosity! That's a lot of storage and a lot of power. At that price though, I would consider a Pro with 1TB/512GB storage and 16/18GB RAM. It's just too big of an upgrade and extra cost in comparison to the Pro's in my opinion. At that point you should go Pro if you do a lot of editing like you mention.

Apologies for my late reply, I was severely sick the past couple of weeks and was in the hospital for 10 days. For basic UA-cam videos without much color grading, special effects, key frames, animations and whatnot you will be fine with the base model. The 16GB will future proof you a bit more when you grow and evolve in your content. Meanwhile you already made a purchase? Curious to find out what you got! Either way you will be fine for some time to come.

Apologies for the delay, I spent 10 days in the hospital and have been severely sick due to pneumonia. Slowly getting better now! I haven't yet used the V6, because I've seen numerous people on UA-cam say the AF is almost unusable in the V6. The red record box around the screen seems nice though. Because so many people seem to complain about the AF in V6, I think Fuji will address this soon.

Some shots were indeed shot without ND filter, I was run and gunning all week going between photo and video and I prefer my photo's to be shot without ND, so screwing it on and off all the time is kind of cumbersome. I usually cranked my f stop all the way up. Probably not the best way to do it but hey 😁 Thanks for your comment!

Still with it! I have received an M3 Pro 16" at my job however, and will make a final comparison video real soon! To be honest, the M3 Pro let me down a couple times as well with realtime playback when editing... The difference really isn't THAT big in my opinion... Expected a little bit more from the Pro.

Sounds about the same situation I experienced here. It was gone pretty quickly and it didn't actually turn off. Not a major issue really, as I wouldn't do a 2 hour interview in a scorching sun anyway 😄 Thanks for sharing your experience, greatly appreciated.

I looked it up for you and although I don't see the exact same options in the GFX recipe, the majority of them are certainly there. So you should be able to pretty much dial in this recipe! Thank you for your question!

In many ways it certainly is. I ended up buying the FX30 too but for very different reasons.

It actually isn't a recipe! I just shot this in standard provia straight out of camera and edited them slightly in Lightroom after. Didn't touch the color though, only made exposure changes. Thank you for your comment!

Bedankt voor de positieve comment! Ben je voor de Air gegaan? Ik heb sinds 3 weken een 16" Pro van mijn nieuwe job. Zeker een krachtigere laptop maar echt een baksteen om mee te sleuren. De 14" zal zeker wat mobieler zijn, maar het verschil met mijn 15" Air is toch echt een stuk groter dan ik had verwacht. Thuis grijp ik meteen naar mijn Air om te UA-camn, scripts te schrijven, alles eigenlijk. Het is gewoon echt een laptop die je wil gebruiken, en dat gevoel heb ik absoluut niet met de Pro... In jouw geval zou ik ZEKER voor de Air gaan, ga je veel meer plezier van hebben in de situaties die je beschrijft!

So true. Thank you for the kind words. Apple Silicon chips changed the world for creative laptop users. An Air with 16gb of RAM is an insanely powerful computer compared to MacBook's (even Pro's) before the end of 2020 when M1 was released. Different league.

You are spot on in my eyes. I have a 16" Pro from work now and it's an absolute brick to carry around 🤣 Performance is of course better but not that much more superior to be totally honest. Silicon chips just give you great performance, even for moderate "Pro" use. Thanks for your insight Adam!

I actually have a background in music production and the reviews I see on this thing are fantastic. I still use a 15" Pro from 2016 for my music production and it runs fine. But I'm sure this Air would kick its ass when getting pushed to the edge. Thanks for sharing your experience, I greatly appreciate it!

Hey man sorry for my late response, I've been away for a bit. I've been very pleased with my 15" Air to be honest. I recently got a new job in the creative space and I received a 16" M3 Pro. The difference isn't huge to be honest, so you are making the right decision in going with the Air. 512GB SSD or 1TB SSD have the same write and read speeds as far as I know. So you are really only paying for more memory. I would save that money and buy an external SSD to edit off of. I do that regardless of the memory my computer has. That being said, just for creative use alone and various things you will end up saving on your computer itself, 512GB isn't THAT much. I often need to clean up my hard drive a bit to keep some headspace on the computer. My next computer would be 1TB for sure. But even then you will probably still need an external SSD. So maybe you should go 512GB SSD and buy a 2TB SSD which would still be cheaper than going 1TB SSD and 1TB external SSD.

In most cases it certainly is. But this issue has nothing to do with settings. It's just artifacts appearing in dark areas.

Had a taste of ProRes and couldn't really tell that big of a difference image quality wise. I mostly shoot All-I so the quality should be there. I don't experience the issue that often too! But I'm always afraid it will occur on some footage that I can't reshoot. I just don't know what could cause such an issue other than a faulty sensor...Thanks for your comment I appreciate it!

@@AntonJDCreatives thanks for a civil response. I have a cheaper version also clip on and they rock as long as you are wearing a collar. I did grab a nice shotgun mic from woot not long ago that really sounds good too. For talking head I don’t even need a clip on mic

Funny you say that because I have used a GH5 for about a year and I actually still think that was the crispiest and most pleasing image overall I have gotten to date out of any of my cameras. Sounds crazy compared to an FX30 and especially an X-H2s that many people consider to be a really filmic and cinematic camera. But always manually focusing wasn't an option anymore. So I definitely considered the S5ii with the new AF. But there were just not enough crystal clear reviews about the AF and considering it is their first swing at it, I wasn't confident enough to go for it compared to the well proven AF of Sony. But price wise that may be your best bang for your buck camera out right now (with the X-S20 really close)! Thanks for your comment!

Firstly I wanna apologize for my (very) late response! I've been off the grid for a bit. If you truly need fast export times and you edit longer videos (like you do those 40 minute videos) you will definitely feel the difference between an Air and a Pro. As a matter of fact, I would even say the majority of the difference is export times. That's where the Air really heats up for extended periods of time where it will eventually throttle. I've been using a 16" M3 Pro I have received at my new job, and it's certainly snappier. For editing you will be fine, but a Pro will really save you time on your exports. What the exact difference will be in your examples is very hard to say. Maybe you already made your decision? If so, I'm curious what you ended up getting and how it's going so far! ​@@AntonJDCreatives Thank you for your reply. I know that you are very busy and it's no problem at all. I am on a verge to get for 1000 bucks Macbook M1 pro 2021 - 10/14 with 32gb RAM and 512 ssd. It has been used for one year and has been sitting unuserd for a year. As far as I can tell, this is a beast. And I am waiting for M4 series to see if it's going to be better than M2 and M3 and saving money to get top model to serve me for years to come.

Hey Adnan thanks for your comment man! Sorry for my late response, when life/daughter/work takes over at times... I mostly use my X-H2s with the Sigma 18-50, which has decent AF performance when you look at the reviews. Overall, the AF isn't super reliable in my opinion. My XF 35mm f2 seems to perform a little better, but still. My Sigma 18-35 with the K&F adapter is okay, but of course you lose reliability when adapting. My FX30 just feels more consistent to me, but in true run and gun situations it isn't a magical no error feature either! I played around with turning NR down, but there is already enough noise as it is most of the time 😁. Yeah I'm afraid there could be something wrong with my unit. I actually used the GH5 as my main camera for a year. I loved the image and colors/v-log. Always manually focusing though… You’re using an S5ii(X) with phase detection AF? That’s supposed to be very good, I even considered the S5ii(X) because of it… so I’m curious which camera you’re talking about.

@@AntonJDCreatives i have the s5 mark 1. I could go mark 2 instead because I like e everything else. I mainly do photos and I struggle to get good stuff with the 50mm especially in low light.

Definitely more on the 15% side than the 50%. I read an article online where they had done some advanced testing in creative app usage where the M2 air throttled. The performance drop brought the M2 chip to the same level the M1 chip is at in full performance. So if you're using an M2 air you will ALWAYS be guaranteed M1 air optimal performance, under the heaviest sustained loads. When in full power mode the M2 chip is supposed to be about 20% faster, better than the M1. That would put the performance drop in throttling at around 15-20%. Thanks for your question.

The Apple SSD upgrades are ridiculously expensive, I know. However the RAM on Apple computers is known to be more efficient than windows computers. But 64gb of RAM on a Windows would probably smack the 16gb on an Apple everyday 🤣. I just have always used Apple devices and I honestly hate using windows every time I need to. Personal preference I guess. Thank you for your comment!
