Filmed at the Whitby Goth Weekend Part 2 (with no Goths in sight due to the Scamdemic). This was my first test with the Panasonic S1H. The S1H is a beast in every way, build quality, codecs and colour. Only the IBIS with wide angle lenses lets this camera down as it gives warping artifacts past 24mm ( I need to test this out more).
The codecs are great! The gimbal shots are filmed in 4:2:2 10-bit ALL-Intra. The boat shots are filmed in ProRes 10bit 4:2:2 HQ with the Ninja V and the rest of the shots were filmed in 5.9K 4:2:0 10-bit LongGOP. I have a couple of 60p shots thrown in with that were filmed in 4:2:0 10-bit LongGOP. All the codecs work great. In grading I prefer the 5.9k which comes in handy for cropping and post stabilisation, though you will need a decent computer to play around with the H265 files.
The S1H is a little big and heavy for run and gun gimbal work (so maybe the S5 would be a great 2nd camera) but the S1H / Crane 3 can still get the job done if you have the strength to carry the combination around. I look forward to filming more with the S1H in 2021 and hopefully I can film a short film on the camera in a more controlled environment. Cheers
