This show encapsulates the essence of Absurdism even better than Seinfeld imo. The point is that it's completely pointless. It can go anywhere and do anything, but it always resets at the end of the episode. It's a sandbox. It doesn't have a serious bone in its body. I love almost every minute of it.

It's weird how Adult Swim was born out of the South Park boom where every network wanted their own hit adult comedy. I have a theory Adult Swim still exists today because of how low budget the shows were and the anime they got the rights for.

I was a college kid when ATHF started, everyone had their own version of the same story: "we were sitting around blazing, watching the show, then someone said Carl was new jersey Homer Simpson and blew all our minds"

One of the reasons the Mooninite LED thing caused a panic was because, iirc, it was shortly after the Boston Marathon bombing, so people there were a little on edge (understandably). The people who knew the show had a spectacular laugh about the stunt, however, and just as much at the overreaction as to the absurdity of the stunt itself.

I always really wanted to like this show, but it never clicked with me. Almost nothing about it is funny at all. Its like comedy for elementary kids in an adult oriented show. I really just dont get it.

Adult Swim came out in 2001? I was born in 93 and ill never forget there was one night my mom had a party and i ended up just watching tv alone in her bedroom and feel asleep to cartoon network only to wake up at like 1am and see two cartoons going "tongue to tongue" and I was like "wtf, am i dreaming right now?" Adult swim was so surreal to a little kid at the time since there wasnt much internet to expose us to similar obscurities

when I was deployed I got my entire platoon hooked on aqua teen when we werent on mission.. I started watching it in highschool and they had never heard of it. 14 years later we still quote the show to each other in conversations.
