LET'S MAKE A FIBERGLASS MOLD! | Frustum Build | Parametric Modeling in Fusion
In this tutorial, we'll dive into the key advantages of using parametric modeling in Fusion 360 compared to the manual, brute force approach in SketchUp. If you're still stuck doing repetitive edits or struggling with design changes in SketchUp, this video is for you! Parametric modeling saves time and allows for much more flexibility as your design evolves. I'll go step-by-step through our example Frustum Pattern for our Fiberglass Mold Making Project to show you why Fusion 360 is the smarter choice for professional-grade projects.

5 Reasons YOU Should Use a Gel Coat Dump Gun || (Part 1 of 5)
Woah. I’ve been looking for a channel like this for a long time. Please do more of these videos.
🙏🏾 much more coming soon!
I'm refinishing the outside of my skiff. I have already finished the topside with a brush and roller. I bought this gun with hopes of spraying the outside of the hull. I'm seeing that this gun might only be for molds. Can I spray the outside of the boat with this gun??
Hey man, thanks for the comment. Yes, your instincts are correct, this gun is much more appropriate spraying into a mold or pattern where that surface is going to drive the finish. It is doable - with a lot of practice - to spray a face up finish with this gun but I wouldn't recommend it. Ideally you'd use an HVLP designed for gel coat. Check out the other video I did on the Gx4 - that thing sizzles for face up gel coat and high viscosity materials and it is relatively inexpensive. You'll have much more "face up" control with that gun. I highly recommend it: ua-cam.com/video/wxGuUGuWhtc/v-deo.htmlsi=JC24m22T-WnlmGfq
Hi, great video. How much qty gel coat would u require for a 10msq area of grp. (Applied to the mould prior to GRP application)
Best to check with the gel coat manufacturer for the appropriate coverage rate for the application. I focus strictly on tooling (mold making) so my coverage rates might be different than yours if you are pulling fiberglass parts. For tooling, I'm right around 100g/sq ft applied in 3-4 passes. My target wet mil thickness is 18-20. But again, I want to stress that is a different use case and material. Good luck!
Thank you, that's extremely helpful.. 😊
Thank u, great video. Can you recommend a gel coat spray gun for large surface of mould for GRP application.

The GX4.
Did you do a follow up about actually working with the new gun?
@@cferinga1 Soon. I had 3 of them (and 3 dump guns) shipped to Montana for an in person workshop we’re leading next week. We will be using them heavily and Our plan is to capture as much as we can from that (including attendee use, questions, etc). Our hope is that type of content will be super valuable. Stay tuned!
I truly need that gun plz kindly help me to purches it am from kenya

Have your tried the 3M pressurized gun, is that worth a try?
Have not. I've heard they're better than the regular one but I really like output of this one.
Their newer performance series with the H/O conversion kit is awesome, it’ll spray straight gelcoat and nonskid
Where do you purchase from?

Nice explanation
appreciate the comment and thanks for watching - hope it was helpful! I'm working on use, breakdown and cleanup videos shortly
and for what it's worth, it RIPS!
I just use 2 paper cups. When you are done, the wet cup slides right out of the dry cup. Give the wet cup a slight squeeze and the top pops right off. The dry cup can be reused. No need to blow air and possibly gelcoat all over the place.
Great idea!
How do you use this gun without it dripping out of the nozzle?
Hi Gannon, thanks for watching and for the question. You'll want to hold it upright (nozzle pointed straight up) like a "briefcase" and then get used to pulling the trigger and rolling the gun in one motion. When done, do the opposite. See here at 445 for an example: ua-cam.com/video/ycoULuw9DqM/v-deo.htmlsi=s2EOlbH0QU--3O4j&t=286. I have another video coming out soon where I spray actual material using this technique (and a whole lot more). Hope this helps.
Great vid. I just learned a lot. Thanks so much.
Glad you found it helpful!
I have been doing this for ~15 years now, I use the plastic tubs that are maybe twice as big, with the 2 flap lid, to keep out moisture and dust. Cool to see that you have the same idea, but we've never met (I didn't see it anywhere, came up with it independently)
I've been using for few years, but you gave me more idea to organize it better. Thank you for making this video.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment - glad it was helpful! 🙌🏾
I wish I'd seen your videos years ago
Thanks for watching and the kind sentiment. I had to step away for a bit but will be back in full force with much more content coming soon. Anything you would like to see or suggest?
@@fortheartisan part 5 of 5 Using the gun would be awesome! About to use mine to spray gel coat for a carbon fiber mold. Regardless the videos have been very helpful.
@@nhskijumper8 thanks for the kind words! My bad, I've had to step away from videos for a bit while I reorganize my shop and onboard some new machines. Exciting stuff coming soon but let me see what I can do about fastracking part 5 (and beyond) - using the gun - it's long overdue
Love this video series. Your presentation style is fantastic - nice pace, no dross, great teaching. Pls hurry up and get part 5 out.
Thank you so much for watching and the feedback - much appreciated! I had to take a short hiatus for personal reasons but I will be back soon and kicking content into the next gear. Part 5 (and a whole lot more related) will be at the top of my list!

Whatup Nate! Aw man, flattered and humbled - much appreciated brotha. We're just getting started - many more to come! Hope all is well
Great video, can you explain how to and when to adjust the flow knob at the back? Thanks for the tip on the whip... i made one for my setup..
Thanks man, appreciate the comment. With the whip being close to the tool, I never adjust the flow knob on the gun - I just leave it wide open and dial in the pressure with the regulator on the whip. This is actually the same for all my spray guns and what makes this so nice.
@@fortheartisan Wide open it is.. Thanks again!
Can't wait to see it in person! Looking good holmes

Thanks Tom! I just riffed this and apparently I'm, "really, really excited" about a lot of things - ha! Off to South Dakota today to spend some time with Will and crew - outta be a good, productive onsite! Once I return, it's go time with the mixer and your mix!

Awesome video! Very helpful. One suggestion...not good to use silicone grease around GelCoat. It can cause fisheyes. Also, the solvent resistant o-rings used in this gun will deteriorate quickly if you use a petroleum based grease such as vasilene. Best to use liquid soap or some sort of synthetic grease. Never install o-rings dry. They cut easily.
Yezir, thank you!
great video. As simple as these little tricks and tips sound they are valuable!
Thanks mang. Simple to execute; knowing them is the hard part 😏
That space looks awesome. Congrats and best of luck. I am sure you will fill it up with some awesome work and tools in no time.
