Hi, I’m Mick,
I am older than most, but younger than some. Which has it’s advantages and disadvantages.
I’m Irish, but living in England for some time now. But still enjoy a Guinness.
Being in sports all my life. I now enjoy cycling on my mtb, road bike and touring bike. Also running on moors and fells.
I’ve started videoing my trips, cycles and touring adventures on bike and my runs.
Which hopefully, you will enjoy.
Subscribing and liking my videos will help made this older man happy.

WoW! That’s Awesome And Breathtaking Adventure! I Loved it! 🤩❤️✨
Looks like a great trip. I’ve cycled over that ‘rubber bridge’ heading out of Darlington many times. It certainly saps your energy 😂What name do you go under on your Strava account? I’d like to read your trip reports on there, too 👍
What a route through the Pennines Mick 😃 that ride from Alston to BC is one of my favourites 🥰 A grand tour! See you soon and I have to ask… did you get a new sleeping bag yet? 😂😉
Yes, have a new sleeping bag, but it's too hot, ha ha. One extreme to the other. And it's only a 400 down bag. Thus, not much on in the tent 😕
@@catchyoulater.5836 😂😂 maybe I shouldn’t have asked 🤣🤣 but still, you can use it for your next bike pack in the hail & snow 😉😉
Chapeau Mick 💪 I've enjoyed these three videos of yours. That was tough cycling over the Pennines. I trust your eyesight was OK while visiting Barnard Castle 😉That app seems great and took you through some lovely villages and countryside missing the main roads. What was your total distance cycled Mick?
Hi Mike, glad you enjoyed the videos. The app Komoot, works for me. It was 440 kms or 273 miles covered in the 6 days.
@@catchyoulater.5836 👍👍
Thanks mick for sharing your tour .Tom in Dublin 👌
Glad you enjoyed them. 👍
Thanks Mick for sharing your latest tour. Very enjoyable and glad you are back home again safely. Take care always, Michael
Thanks Michael. Glad you enjoyed them
Yeah that climb back over from Lochranza is a killer but great to freewheel down the other side. And you did well to get off Arran when you did Mick, you could have been stuck there for a few days! The seafronts at Ardrossan and Saltcoats (always shown on the TV when there's a storm!) are two of our local dog walks...but not on that day. That's quite some climbing you did on this leg, I guess it just gets steeper up to Alston? New sub 👍
Lovely to see John & Florence Mick. Lovely coastline along Ayrshire, lovely villages. Astoundingly atrocious weather at Ardrossan, I had no idea the storms were so appalling. Good choice! Hope the next leg wasn’t too wet 🤞
Excellent Mick, I do enjoy your videos. Good to see you back on the steed.
Thanks Calum, glad you're enjoying them. The steed needs to loose a bit of weight 😁
Woolleys bakery bangs out some good gear eh? 😋Chapeau for cycling round the south of Arran with that heavy load 💪 Look forward to the next one. ATB Ian and Meg 🙋♂🐶
Yes, great pies. Got me going again 🤪 Thanks for your comment.
Wahey, Mick! It didn’t rain! 🥳 Enjoyed the first 2 days, but I want to know how deep that crossing was at the beginning?! 😆 Good to see a healthy appetite in Brodick. Looking forward to the next one. Sue 😘
Thanks Sue. Yes, it was an experience, a dry Scotland 😁. Let's say, I was worried 1/2 through that flood 🥴
Fantastic to see that you are well and back on the bike Mick , take care and all the best with this trip ( I took the train to Ardrosssen this year and took the ferry across to Arran ) Cheers, Michael
Thanks, it was nice being back touring, and in dry weather. Arran is a lovely spot, always worth the visit.
Brilliant, Mick! You know how I feel about jellies 😂 They’re sure beautiful, in a scary way.. more to follow? Sue 👍
👍👍🌀
Great camera work, thanks for posting😍
Thanks, short but sweet, I hope 😁
Lovely views and nice cycling. 7:12 - big woow...that landscape appearing🙂
@@tuitam_ide Thanks for your comment. It is a lovely route to cycle 👍
What time of year did you travel ? (I might have asked that already on one of your earlier vids !)
Really enjoying your series of videos, can I ask what time of year you travelled ?, myself and two friends are riding the route in the first week of September, looing forward to it.....will be ensuring we have some decent wet weather gear !
Hi Graham, thanks for your comments. It was early May last year, when I cycled the NC500. The weather will be great, what possible could go wrong there? 😁 Best of luck, I'm sure you will all enjoy it, whatever the weather 👍
Cant beat the benefits of an endless pool 👌
Really interesting Mick 🤔 Most especially (for me anyway) the dropping shoulder, I suspect that might be my problem too. Thanks for the tips, I may well give it a try too. See you soon outside in the lakes when it gets a bit warmer. 👍 Sue
Hi Sue. If you are dropping your shoulder, like myself, maybe that’s how your shoulder is sore. I may have been lucky and not damaged it at this point? I’ve been conscious of correcting my swimming style since this season, but it difficult and will take time. But the swimming session with Colin was very good. Looking forward to swimming with you . 🏊♀️🏊♂️
Hi Mick, it was great having you in the Endless Pool, you were great and I'm pleased that you enjoyed the swim session. Keep up the training and good luck with your future swims.
Thanks Colin 👍
Thanks Colin 👍
Looking good Mick! Hope you're keeping well? (Kev O)
Hi Kev. All well here, thanks. And hope you're keeping well also. 👍
thanks Mike, that was a great tour, I have to do it hopefully in the near future, great stuff from N.E.England
Thank you for your comment, yes do it sometime, its well worth doing. 😉
thanks man, I'll do it one day, looks tough going though but very rewarding, great stuff
Thanks for your comment. It’s a great route to cycle. You will have to do it sometime, just hope you enjoy better weather than myself 👍
Well done Mick please get a hard hat .
Great ride and video, Mick. Why did you not do it in summer!?
Thanks for your comments. Glad you enjoyed the videos. Is it ever summer in Scotland? But I must admit, I was hoping for at least spring 😁
Looking forward to more hiking and cycling videos, however, new hiking boots and socks before the next hike.😉Great scenery!!!!!
Ha Ha, Christmas is on its way 👍 Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed the video.
Glad your shoulder’s OK Mick, however… pot noodles rather than porridge?! 😂 Never heard such noisy cows, wow you really made an impression there.. anyhow, love a good backpack. Thanks for sharing it 😍 look after those feet, a new pair of boots needed perhaps? Hope to see another hike soon 👌
Thanks Sue. Christmas is comming, so let see what goodies he brings 😁
You started off in my area in fact I was out this morning on the Stokesley - Northallerton circuit. thanks for the video
Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Hi Mick Very sorry for your loss, may he rest in peace. Great to see you back on the road. I was up in Scotland last weekend, beautiful weather for the first two days, lovely scenery, but my left knee gave up after a brutal day in the Glen. The headwinds were like nothing I have ever experienced. The day turned out to be more Hiker/ biker than riding. That's the way it goes sometimes. Again, very sorry for you loss, we will say a prayer for him and your family. Michael 🙏
Hi Michael. Thank you for your kind message, much appreciated And yes, Scotland can throw any sort of weather at you, no matter what time of the year. So we'll done, I know how hard it can get. Hope you're knee is recovered.
Was that the luck of the Irish with your pedal 😊 Sor.ry for your loss. Maybe dedicate your next ride to your cousin. My cousin is a like a brother to me , so I know how you feel.
Thanks you for your kindness.
To be continued then Mick. Nice to join you on familiar roads. The wind has indeed been pretty strong so well done as always on your hardiness, Ellerton swim included. Until Semer Water! 😊
Thanks Sue. Just trying to keep up with yourself 😁
@@catchyoulater.5836 😂😂😂
I've just binge watched all of these. What a great little series! I've done this route on my motorcycle and several times I thought how much I'd like to come back and do it on my bicycle. I had been planning for LE to JoG next year but I might do this first now....
Thanks for your comments. You should try cycling it, you see so much when moving slow, or even slower in my case. It's not easy, but it is rewarding 👍
here to support my friends.. thank you for sharing interesting and entertaining videos.. keep up the enthusiasm and always success for all of us
Great adventure. Did you download the route you took on your sat nav ? Or could you have done it easy enough without navigation!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I did download the route to my garmin device but after a day or so just used the paper nap and it's well signposted 👍
@@catchyoulater.5836 Thanks for the reply , I enjoyed it very much thanks for sharing with us . I'm undecided whether I should tackle the route by my small motorcycle or take my gravel bike .🤔
hope to be able to swim at this place once ! such an incredible nature 😍
Wondrous footage Mick, beautiful! It was like watching a fascinating horror movie- I’m afraid of jellyfish but they are very pretty. I think I held my breath longer than you did 😂 First getting cozy with the stingers, then those fronds!
I want to do this on a cycle but I keep making excuses , such as my age ( just turned 52 ) etc , but then I saw you doing it ok . Great inspirational vid 👍🏻
Just go for it, you will enjoy the experience, good and not so good 😉
Do it !
Love your cycling videos. Can i ask you what set up are you using bike panniers etc . I've been into long-distance hikes all my life but age and stiff joints are pushing me towards bike packing . Hope you can help. Billy
Hi Billy, thanks for your comments, I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed the videos. Nice to hear that you are planning to do some bike touring, it’s a great way to see the countryside. My bike is a Genesis Tour De Fer, and comes fitted with a SP PD-8 dynamo hub on the front wheel, which if have now wired onto a Signwave Revolution to charge up my electrical power pack from, whilst cycling. All my panniers are Ortlieb bags. And I use 4 bags, not because I carry a lot of gear, but to distribute the weight. And my tent is strapped onto the back rack, between the 2 rear bags. I enjoy the freedom of wild camping. Finally, I have a Ortlieb handle bar bag, with I find very useful. Ortlieb bags are fully waterproof, all be a bit expensive, but they never let me down yet, and I’ve seen some rain, as you can see 😁. Hope this helps, all the best. Catch you later.
Hi Many thanks for your quick reply and details of your bike touring set up . Can i ask what is your gps system on your angle bars and what app are you using . And if possible is it a difficult job to wire the signwave into your bike charger even though i dont know what a signwave is ? Its very tempting to bike pack now .I realised its still not easy cycling up hills etc but like yourself carrying 20 kg on your back in a rucksack is hard but with cycling you can carry more and stop or go that bit further in a day . Especially with my creaking joints . So thank you so much with your help I'm a newbie when it comes to bike hiking . Look forward to more of your videos. Best wishes . Billy.
Thank you for all of your videos .I know the weather was poor for you and you cycled in some torrential rain Scenery was beautiful even though the mist and rain . Thank you. Billy
Hi Bilky, thanks for your comments. Even with the weather, it was still so enjoyable, and it only makes the trip and memories better? 😁
I don't blame you for not wanting to ride on the A171, a very dangerous road even for cars never mind bikes. Every time I travel that road I see an accident.
Hi Brian, thanks for your comments. Yes, I much prefer the quieter roads. All be it, them Yorkshire roads are a roller coaster 😁
Great video series, I totally enjoyed it, and what scenery, you have inspired me to do my own cycle camping trip, I hope you do some more cycling adventures as I'd love to come along for the journey once again. My god i've just realised you live near me, I live in Eston, if you fancy company on an ride let me know, I'd lov to tour wih you.
Nice one , thank you for sharing and enjoyed watching, new friend .stay connected 👍11
Thanks.
Good to see you - looking forward to your next video🙂
Thanks 👍
WAHEY!!! Welcome back 😁😁😁 And many thanks for the shout out!! Buttermere footage on it’s way to you soon. Well done on Coniston… the weather wasn’t like Buttermere. That must have been tough 👍 Catch y’later 😁
Looking forward to seeing the return of your vlogs 👍
Thanks Paul.
Mate, you’ve made the best NC500 video on UA-cam. Awesome, keep up the great work!!!
Ha Ha, well I'm not sure about that, but thanks for your comments. I think it's near time for another venture? 🤔
Mick, your first stop was river Conon. How do I know? I crashed my car straight across the river from your tent on Friday the thirteenth of April, 1973. Won't forget that in a hurry
Oh dear. Not a good memory.
Only my pocket hurt.
Hi just completed NC500 on same set up as yourself only difference I turned back at John O Groats and came down A897 to Kimbrace and cut over towards Syre and Altnaharra, loved watching your videos loved the whole trio, looking forward to replacing some if your other trips. Thanks Steven 😊 Thomson
Hi Steven. Thanks for your comments. And well done yourself on cycling the NC500. I think you made the right choice turning back to the A897. In hine sight, I should have done the same. Well done 👍
Hi mick loved watching this adventure stunning can I ask what model of genesis bike are you using ? definitely looks a hardy steed thanks for sharing stay safe...colin 🚴♂️🏴👍🏻☀️🏕🔥
Hi Colin, thanks for your comment and glad you enjoyed the videos. My bike is a Genises Tour De Fer 30. Is is a steel frame bike, so quite heavy, especially when loaded up 🥵. But it's never let me down. 👍
@@catchyoulater.5836 thanks much appreciated 👍🏻☀️🚴♂️
Amazing effort, well done. I noticed you stopped using your GPS after day one, is that because its well sign posted?
Yes, the route is well signposted, and I was using the NC500 map. Thanks for your comment.
