No Christmas in Kentucky - Phil Ochs (1963)
Переглядів 4,8 тис.11 років тому
LYRICS: Christmas shoppers shopping on a neon city street Another Christmas dollar for another Christmas treat There's satin on the pretty dolls that make the children glow While a boy walking ragged in the cold Kentucky snow No, they don't have Christmas in Kentucky There's no holly on a West Virginia door For the trees don't twinkle when you're hungry And the Jingle Bells don't jingle when yo...

"The song was first performed publicly by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays on June 3, 1949 at St. Nicholas Arena on W. 66th Street in New York at a testimonial dinner for the leaders of the Communist Party of the United States, who were then on trial in federal court, charged with violating the Smith Act by advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government. It was not particularly successful when it was ...

"Who were the Hollywood Ten? This 1950 documentary gives us a closer look at the ten blacklisted film writers and directors who defied the government and the sentiments of their day by refusing to testify during the HUAC anti-Communist hearings. John Berry, who directed the documentary, was blacklisted himself upon its release." (Ironweed Films)
Someone once called them two rabbis and a hooker. LOL.
Anybody here because of Mike and Molly
I just thought of this song learnt from childhood by my late mother 😢 The words mean so much. Praying God's blessings and strength for us all 🙏❤️
This world needs this song more than ever now.
(Smoking in the U.S. has gone down from about 45% in 1960 to about 12% today.)
อุดมการณ์ไม่มีวันตาย😊
I just happened to buy a bell about 2 weeks ago. Today (post election results) my daughter told me just didn't feel safe and so she bought herself a hammer. Now all we need is a song of freedom.
I'LL HAMMER ALL OVER THIS LAND
💜 Barney was my introduction to this song as a child. No clue why this song was on my mind this morning more than 30 years later. Thanks for the memories 😊
The greatest trio of singers ever!

Is it possible that the Communist's killed General Patton?
Patton died of pulmonary edema and congestive heart failure following a car crash in late 1945.
@@mattnhormann ...........
Sounds more like Mary, Peter and Paul
Those were the best days for America.
sad that this optimism for peace and harmony seems gone from our society
Mr. Parr my 4th grade teacher in 1962, taught us to sing this in class. Justice, Freedom the love between my brothers and my sisters. The Cuban Missile Crisis had pasted. JFK was still alive.
Don't give her that fucking hammer
The beautifulness of this time period which I grew up in, songs were simple and performed in a innocent sounding vibe, although at 70 I still find that some old tunes are still timeless, I listen to Rock/Metal/Reggae/New Folk and more, but the Oldies but Goodies still move me. Thanks for posting this tune👍
My mom used to sing this to me when I was kid It's making me cry
Remember that communism is just as evil as fascism, but that these men were convicted of perjury, not for their beliefs. They should have used the fifth amendment.
Buurman en buurman iemand?
Peter Paul and shorty
The Simpsons anyone?❤
I sing this song at camp❤
i learned this one in mr. nixons music class 3rd grade 1987. written by pete seeger folk performer who.also.wrote where have the flowers gone etc, public school lol yknow i liked some of my time there, but all very confusing to a youngster. in 1948 ot was way to controversial to touch and all through the 50s, until finally it got mainstream fans in the hippie 60s, and became an anthem of the civil rights movement. weird how times shift come go..

I will never support communism. However, I will not stand for artists being dictated to regarding what they can write, compose, act in, paint, etc. If I don't like a film, I change the channel. It's like abstinence....it works every time it's tried. Everyone in this country has the right to think and talk and create freely without the restraint of the government.
Such a great take. What harmony and soul. They’re singing their hearts out and the mix is perfect
We need to have a Revival this song needs to be played more often.
A comedy duo was doing the Fort Worth rodeo. "If I had a heifer, I'd have her in the morning, I'd have her in the evening..."

It was always one of my favorites!

This is in 1950. Ask yourself this question, how many millions this communism country kills incarcerator and tortured ? .. In my own country Cuba , one of these screenwriters ( Lester Cole ) was portrayed Castro in 1959 like a wonderful man ? Cuba is been under a tyrannical communist government for more than 65 years … HELLO 🤷🏽
This is a terrible version; it's 'hammer' not 'haaarmer'.
I learned this song at Camp Baker in Virginia
