Переглядів 280Місяць тому
Wankan is an unusual kata in the sense that it only has one Kiai. The reason for this is that it's creator Gigo Funakoshi the son of Gichin Funakoshi (Founder of Shotokan) died from TB and in respect left the kata unfinished. In this video it is performed slowly so that you can follow with the movements at home and when in class we can incorporate the katas pace. This kata is required for a 5th...

I AM A STUDANT ADAM AND ILHAN AND WE SUBED
Usually it's considered bad form to hit to the head or neck with any weapon for mortal reason. More often than not there is no need to kill your enemy, now is there?
thanks

....DID YOU SAY TAMPON....???
Looking in from a different style, i always thought Shotokan DIDN'T suffer from the dreaded 'no contact' / distance-from-target training issues that many other styles accepted as inevitable. Guess I was wrong? About as wrong as just touching my opponents chin with an age zuki in a real encounter, muscle memory trumping tactical intent. Best advice: Train AS IF it were real, include pain, speed, distance, recovery, reset time. Then you have an effective (rather than theoritical) base for self-defense.
It supposed to be takedowns instead of long distance relationship 😅. Does everyone creating it's own bunkai in modern times?!
This is basic so beginners can follow. The takedowns will be demonstrated in the intermediate to advanced applications of the Kata.
Thank you sir
Great post ty!
Love the first 3 but to add an atemi would have been nicer.

Very nice, Tanbo has become favorite weapon.. I'm physically disabled some, my back, neck, and wrists are all screwed up lol so Tanbo I have found to be the easiest weapon to use with the least amount of wear and tear on my wrists and arms. I can likely defend myself pretty well with one if need be. It's also a practical, and legal weapon since it's just a stick, which to me makes it even better. I used to be heavily into the other Kobudo weapons but I just can't do them much anymore unfortunately. Tanbo has kept the practice going for me.
Maybe its more like arm drag than blocking attacks
Just one basic movement out of many
@Stafford Shotokan Karate, what belt is it taught?
We teach this from yellow upwards at basic level and progress through grades at intermediate and advanced levels
😮???
Good quick overview. Thanks.
You're welcome!
Great job thank for the video Oss
Excellent 💯 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Impressive NICE work 💯
Thank you! Cheers!
Impressive
😂
Nobody gonna stand there after they throw the punch.
This is a misleading post as this demonstration was held by Burton Manor Karate club not Stafford shotokan karate club as they were not open in 2006.
The instructors from this club broke away from the original club.bmkc as rightly mentioned. But we are no longer associated to them in anyway.
@staffordshotokankarate6659 Respectfully, there is various lengths of tambo that are used in different Japanese martial arts, so saying the tambo being used in this video is the "correct length" is really correct for "your school / dojo". Also, the thickness of the kali / escrima stick / club that you are using is not correct.. That chinese mass manufactured stick/club is too thick. Tanbo are 1 inch in diameter, that is the correct diameter for tambo sticks across all the Japanese styles including Shotokan. One thing you should do and a every enjoyable one is to have your students go out to a hardware store with your specifications on the the length and 1 inch diameter, and buy a wooden dowel. Most people can cut wood with a saw and sand down wood and it's more enjoyable as the student / practitioner uses a tanbo that they made and is more personal to them in the practice. Even a tambo made of pine, that is soft and light still make a formidable self defense tool and is 100% fine for practice.
Tanbo is roughly a 2 foot stick..sometimes a little shorter, and sometimes a little longer, just depends on the individual's personal preferences.. But shorter than 3 feet which would be a Hanbo. Anything from 1 & 1/2 feet to about 2 & 1/2 feet would be classed as Tanbo... anything over that is getting closer to a Hanbo. My Tanbo length is about 26" just a little bit over 2 feet long. His thickness on his stick is fine... it can be a little thick if one wishes, it's still a Tanbo.
This is the real Tanbo Kata, for a single Tanbo. It was developed by one of the old Karate masters, I forget his name right now. But it is an authentic Kobudo kata for Tanbo. Tanbo is still pretty obscure when it comes to Kobudo weaponry, but it's my favorite weapon, along with Tekko...love both of those. I tend to go with weapons that are easy and simple to wield right from the start, but equally hard to master, as any weapon takes a long time of training :) Also, the Stick (of all sizes) and Tekko (Knuckle Dusters) can be adapted from all sorts of things, which makes learning these very practical. A cane for instance can be used as a makeshift Tanbo as it's similar in size.
Is it Gichin Funakoshi?
@@nathanieldizon2150 no, it was from Kentsu Yabu (1863-1937) he developed Sekiun No Tanbo, single 2 ft long stick, and handed that art down to Richard Kim (1917-2001).
Well done everyone 🎉🎉
È inguardabile e irriverente, non solo per lo shotokan ma per il karate in generale
WHAT LEVEL OF SHOTOKAN DO YOU TEACH THAT?
From 2nd kyu upwards which is our Blue belt grade
@@staffordshotokankarate6659 IS IT A STANDARD OR REGULAR PART OF SHOTOKAN KARATE?
It's not part of shotokan it's part of kobudo training that we teach as many katas incorporate weapon defences within them. So always good practice to learn how to use a weapon and defend a weapon
Fantastic!
Sick looking Tekko!! That's one weapon I haven't trained with yet because they're difficult to come by and expensive compared to my main favorite weapon, the Sai. Timbei Rochin is another that's very difficult to come by....Its a weapon I've had to custom make myself...same with Suruchin, I just made one myself out of metal weights tied to a strong cord.
I'm doing Karate and am a shodan in Iwama ryu Aikido. It's interesting to see some similarities between the two arts in the techniques presented in this video. regards from Melbourne!
Will be more variations to come
