Wingsuit Double Malfunction
Переглядів 355 тис.13 років тому
Malfunction on a wingsuit jump. After cutting away, the RSL deployed the reserve and the reserve bridle wrapped under my chin and around the right wing of the suit. Canopy is a Nitron 135 loaded at 1.3, TonySuits T-Bird wingsuit, 143 PD Reserve. A safe and happy landing.
Spreading risers doesn't do anything. Twist them together to lower twists in lines down toward you. You could've done more on that main line twist.
U people with 1 fucking tandem need to stfu. Ive cut away from a line twist. Sometimes u have to depending on the circumstances
Suddenly I don't feel so bad about wingsuiting without an RSL.
can you do wide turns with these suits, like S's, or 90's? thanks~
Nice recovery pal
Why he stopped upload videos?
Shit pack
How often does this parachute twisting shi*t happen?!
usually when you're in unstable position (rotating), on deployment of pilot chute. But usually canopy opens almost fully and you have a lot of time to just wait until it twists to one direction and starts untwisting automagically. I had very small twists on my first 13 jumps, but they are resolved fast and are not considered as a malfunction. When it's faster, chute is not that open, then you have to cutaway...
are malfunctions reported, and do you have a "record" kept on your jumps by someone? (I know, weird question...)
Don't get why he didn't kick out of his line twist on his main? Or even make an attempt?
Ok i have no idea of this but he cut the main before he finished spinning....so isn't it completely normal if you immediately deploy the reserve for it to spin also? Of course try to keep your calm with that thing beeping you that the ground is approaching is not so easy...
Can some experienced person explain me what exactly happened, and furthermore what he could have done to avoid it ? What could have happened ?
Wingsuits are notorious for line twists on opening, slight difference in leg/arm position can cause a spin which induces line twists. Instead of spending time dealing with line twists below the slider, which were still spinning up, he cut it away and pulled reserve. BUT!!!! the reserve pilot chute went in front of his neck and behind his hand. Lucky it didnt open like that would have been bad news. Any jump you can walk away from is a good jump and a learning experience. +1 good sir
2 Questions; Why not try to kick out the 1st malfunction before opening the reserve ? And 2nd why skydive in sandals ?
how far can you travel wearing a wingsuit?
if we assume that you jump from 12k feet and pull at 4k, roughly 6-7km
glide ratio is 2:1 so twice distance of height horizontally
All the way to the scene of the accident.
the impact was so hard, his native language swapped from english to enything else XD fortunately he is ok...
I would have been swearing a lot. Such calm under pressure!
Pro tip: Use your wings and the relative wind from the canopy forward flight to rotate your body out of line twists. You'll get more torque than from a kick.
Dude that's inspirational way to get yourself out of a bad situation sir
A twist is not a major malfunction. You can safely glide down with a twist, but you wont be able to control where your going.
+Angus Dorbie I jump at a 1.58 on a 120 nitron, twisted risers or not I personally don't like to findout what's in my reserve tray unless I have to. I have had to steer my canopy when twisted at the risers in a non wingsuit jump (and larger canopy) . Pulled myself up the twist, reached and grabbed a break line above the twist and turned myself towards the dz on what was already a longspot. if I had reserve twists low to the ground I would do the same thing with both break lines to flare.
+Brian Lancaster I've done that myself, but to help eliminate twists. You can't do that in a dive.
+dorbie ^^true
"lucky" guy
im not saying it wasnt a good job on keeping your cool and executing emergency procedures bc it deff was and i know most reserves MOST reserves deploy normally but ive noticed when the main has lines twists and you cutaway nine times outa ten the reserve also has some line twists so why cutaway a main with line twists when your just going have to have to kick out of a few good twists with the reserve at an even lower alt???? not trolling i swear just wanting to learn thx!! and ive done a tandem not long ago going back for aff course in a few weeks!! blue skies
Because the line twists on the main were causing a dive loosing lots of altitude!! And you might not be able to clear the line twist before 2,500 feet and would cause u to hit the ground. Line twists on a reserve, since it's a canopy that is not designed for performance and is not elliptical. Line twists usually don't cause it to go into a dive. It's tends to fly strait so if u landed even with line twists on a reserve your going slow enough you wouldn't die. Because it's still flying straight
+Dylan McGhee I agree, sack off the nine cell and use the stable floaty seven to land ;-)
+Dylan McGhee, Elliptical canopy should not be used for WS jumps and, in fact, are banned for WS jumps at some of the DZs.
What a way to keep your wits and not panic. Great emergency action
What kind of rig were you jumping?
What a lovely view from above! Well done, Sir!! Funwi
+Andrew Garcia It was an Infinity

Good save
I would think a wing loading of 1.3 is pushing it with a WS, I'm on a nice docile canopy with a 1.16 loading and whenever I get a bad twist, my canopy settles down, flies straight and I can kick out easy.
+AntoH I just moved from a 120 to a 150 for this exact reason ;-)
Two words... Sky Hook...
Yup
Naa, those things have caused issues in the past
The fact that he had a MARD is what caused the reserve bridal wrap in the first place.

Meu amigo que situação. Falha de dobragem?
good call
oh buddy he says
nice job and not too low!
Who packed that ?
+marine919 Irrelevant
This is coming from someone who used to pack.... "Body position will cause more line twists than a bad pack"
Lawndart Productions I agree, I am a wingsuiter myself and I have lost count of the amount of times I have had terrible body position on deployment when learning, you can see the pack job twist in some of my videos due to my body
RSL did work. You can see the bridle fly in front of his chest before he pulls the handle.
HOW THE HELL do you find that EXPENSIVE main chute after you cut away?
Wow! Very well done! I only have a 110 jumps and not sure if I could handle this situation so quick and perfect... Great thing he had enough altitude! Congrats!
Well done
Why didn't you try to unravel the main shoot?
Well that just cured me to scratch that one off my bucket list.... with my luck two times the same is pushing it.
Lucky bastard
i bet it was the same idiot packing both ---- sorry, but this looks to me like it was the same shit twice.. lucky you!
of course he is alive. this is TV.
Nice man!Thanks for sharing
i was expecting massive piss cloud to form when he unzipped the leg...
O.o fuck yea
You stopped flying the wingsuit the moment you deployed your pilot shute and to add to your problems... you grabbed the left riser ONLY. Your body is not symmetrical on deployment. This is why you are running into this problem. You need to fly through the deployment. You can also use your Wing to get yourself out of a line twist by holding one wing open and the other one closed depending which way you are twisting. I fly an X-Bird and I can still kick out of line twists.
skydiving with a gun so I can shoot myself when this shit happens
He could have survived with no parachute as long as he landed on his massive testicles.
This was an AWESOME video man!
Тупняк... Не понятно зачем открывал запаску, основной раскрылся нормально, а то, что его так закрутило сам виноват, должен был раскрутить стропы основного, запас высоты был. И стропы раскручивать нужно руками из-за головы - так больше усилие...
Nice job dude, and this is why we pull high under a wingsuit!
@nealrutgerskid how do you think to learn to base jump in a winger? Think about it!
