The problem I have is I’m overwhelmed in where to try and organize and get rid f tons years of papers , and 30+ years of of sentimental cards from my departed parents, and from my husband , I feel stuck, then there are also tons of things my husband has that he does not want to let go of and does not even use those things that are in boxes taking up room, he does not want to get rid of anything , I’m very stressed and overwhelmed , his mother passed on last year and he brought home a large box of Knick knacks that I don’t want, I don’t know what to do with all of that, my husband and I are in our 60s and we both have daily chronic pain, he works at his job all of the time but if he happens to have some free time he will not go through anything and rather watch tv, I’m so very stressed I never have peace of mind in my own home and can never feel relaxed I feel stuck in the decluttering process 🥲 please any advice. Thank you ❤️

We were moving & we needed to get the house on the market. I had a friend that helped me declutter. However, when it got closer to the time we needed to get it on the market… we added & hired a professional organizer. I got to the point where if I hesitated too long, it got decluttered! It worked well & we met our deadline!

@replay Thanks for being human. 3 Making a list of tools is a great idea! This is something suggested in 12-step programs. Taking a walk is a great idea. I play P!nk and dance in my living room with my dogs.

Smoke smell….. it depends on the items if you can do it yourself. Restoration companies have methods of completely removing the smell, though. Make sure it’s a reputable company, insured, etc.

There is an ozone treatment for smoke and other smells you can get for a home. It has to be professionally done and you can't be in the home for a few days. I haven't personally tried it but a friend did it after renters smoked in the house and she was putting the house on the market.

There a 2 Bible verses I MAKE myself say out loud every morning, as I never wake up thrilled. Psalm 118:24 This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice & be glad in it! Then I paraphrase from Lamentations 3:22 - 23 by declaring, Your mercies are new each morning! Helps me turn my cranky self toward a new, grateful, happy attitude.

We are not crazy! We are responding to the wickedness and lawlessness surrounding us due to an increase in Godlessness. In a just society, many people would act more rationally; I guarantee it! I never thought I would need the Holy Spirit to tell me when I need to buy 4 packages of chicken because a fake, demonic client won’t pay next week, and when I just need to trust God that everything will be provided and I don’t need to hang on too tightly. The worst I have experienced is fake liars who say they need something I have who guilt me into giving it them when they didn’t need it. Satan tests your charity, not God. Give because you want to; never give out of guilt. The world is wicked, so please be gracious on yourself for behaving accordingly!

With chronic pain/ phy limitations/ autoimmune et al I found decreasing the AMOUNT of items / Inventory in my home was THE ONLY way I learned to be able to maintain my home. It's taken 20 months to purge 220,000+ items from our home. Now I can finally tidy and clean my home myself, even with my limitations. It was NOT Possible before letting go.

It may not be "scary" rather it is an emotional trigger: a form of grief. It seems to me, it's a matter of letting go a "fantasy person" you like, an ideal in your mind. Getting educated that clutter has an unhealthy effect on its owner. I agree admitting to someone else that you have accumulated piles of stuff can be difficult due to shame, but it matters to WHOM you ask for help. And you must have help from a successful declutterer. They have more empathy & better solution(s). There are MANY reasons why people accumulate things & let the house cleaning & tidying go to pot. But it is truly a sign that there is a problem inside that ought to be addressed. (ie. a death in family which hasnt been properly grieved, the false belief: hoarding=feeling "rich", selfishness, past hurts undealt with rightly, etc.) Hoarding. The bottom line is that it is unhealthy, complicating your own personal circumstance(s). As an older person, it is irresponsible to put-off decluttering because when you die who has to clear it out?! Also, the maintaining of clutter is tiring physically, mentally & spiritually. It is a freedom-killer. You can never be organized until a good portion of stuff goes out. Peace.

What I've learned.... i have to go where the energy is.... remind myself i don't have to do it all in a day / week .... im on my schedule not what i believe everyone else's time beliefs are....( that's a big one ) .... MY DISCLOSURE... IVE BEEN KNOWN TO CLEAN THE OVEN TO AVOID THE KITCHEN TABLE, MY TRUTH. Strength has come upon me and today i have started the process of the kitchen table and woo hoo half way done 😊😊😊 my goal is ... everything has a place and everything in the place it belongs or its gonna have to be let go of. Reduce reuse repurpose rehome if possible. Using the question... does it give me joy ? Do i want it ? Do i need it? Do i love it? Can i replace if necessary or the need to. 😊😊😊 Have the best day. Enjoy the declutter process and envision what the end process will look and feel like ... awe comfort peaceful and cozy. 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤

Thank you! Love your presentations! My question: after a lot of decluttering (not done yet) I'm struggling with a few empty drawers & shelves. How do I decide how to use these spaces? I've never had this problem before... available space! What to do? Thanks... it's my happy problem, but serious. I don't want more stuff stuffed.

I have a lot of paper I need to keep and file also. I go thru each envelope, toss unneeded sheets (same info in another language, for example) and then I toss the envelope and file the paper flat, not folded. Sometimes I need to staple or paper clip them together and/or put a sticky note on it so clarify what it is and date. This saves a lot of space and unnecessary reading each time I'm going thru my files.

Soft reusable bags can be stored compactly. I am a hoarder. Because of that, I still have fresh polyethylene bags in a drawer from times when they were free. You need a stash to make useful combinations of things. Rigid reusable bags need more space, but better protect the goods. Photos bend into a rounded shape and take up more space. Blue color does indeed fade. No, not a phone. Is everything a phone these days in America? You need a thick flatbed scanner, which is forgiving of uneven surface and gives natural focus. Use a high resolution, relative to the details, maybe 300 ppi, and low compression to give room to de-dust and correct the photos at a later time (you won't have the patience to do it right away). Making personal copies of digital files is cheap and quick. Use the "cloud" only in addition as a secondary form of storage. You are giving up a lot of freedom by tying yourself to the "cloud" and maybe feed the AI. You can't even make the argument of "clutter" considering how physically small a flash memory device is.
