16) Stitch and Glue Kayak Build - The Launch!
This is my stitch and glue kayak. I designed it myself and built it using 4mm Okoume and Sapele marine plywood. This build is finished and there's only one thing left to do before I can officially call it a boat...
Time to see if it floats!

Riding the Hamster Wheel @ Browns Creek MTB
That is absolutely lovely!
It's so beautiful! Awesome job!
Hey thanks for saying that about my face, but what about the boat?!
Congratulations! It looks great!
Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
Nicely done!
Thanks man!
Looks great! For me, this was the worse part of the process. The varnishing itself is not so difficult and a coat goes on quickly , but at this end stage the waiting was unbearable .So close to finished, but held hostage to the drying and hardening time of the varnish.
Thanks. I agree, it's a lot of hurry up and wait.
The 'sawhorses' really did collapse but the umbrella incident is a joke BTW. I actually used the old torn up umbrella that the new one had just replaced. 😅
awesome video best overview of Brown's I have seen on here...really fun park might be my goto since Smith is getting a bit bland.
it's worth the drive. best place around these parts. need to get back...
Next you should build stich and glue bike jumps
Lol too funny great video ❤
😂😂😂 classic!
Very honest videos. Great work. Thank you
mostly honest... I'm a bit of a goofball sometimes but thanks!
@@BetterOutThanIn It was almost as watching myself work 🍺
i like your sawhorses! Can you give us some specs about the build? Length, width, ply thickness ,etc... it's looking great!
Thanks! This kayak is 17' long with a 23" beam. The ply is 4mm Okoume and Sapele. 4 oz cloth and 6 oz tape on seams. I designed this boat back in 2016. I actually cut 2 kayaks at the CNC shop back then but this one sat unbuilt for all that time. Finally getting to it now. It's brother is the thumbnail and can be seen hanging on the wall in the background.
Looking good!
thanks but what about the kayak? lol : )
My brother in law lives in Wilmington, so we always try to hit this trail up when visiting.
wow.... your channel deserves more views
Hey thanks!
Wonderful
"This is a good way to get epoxy all over your camera stuff" 😆 exactly what I was thinking! Awesome video, very cool kayaks! I want one!
only one?!
Awesome video!
Thanks!
Your videos are boring!
That’s a great video! Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@BetterOutThanIn 😊
Funny!
Great video! How fast were y’all pulling it ?
You guys were down in my stomping ground. Looks like you had a great time minus the storm haha but that’s all part of the fun.
We love that place... Minus the storm.
I’m from eastern NC been loving your videos. I probably watched your browns creek video 15 times. The full pull when you were following that guy with the carbon bike to get an idea of the layout before I went a few weeks ago. Still ended up lost haha. But it did help me out regardless.
Awesome! Glad to hear that! I got so lost the first time I went. Probably why I started making the maps in the first place. Thanks for the feedback.
@@BetterOutThanInman when I went over the bridge and saw that first climb on welcome to browns creek, I wasn’t ready for it. It had also rained the night before so every berm I felt like Ice. Ended up making it out of there in one piece tho. I stoped by big branch on the way home and had a blast. Have you ever rode that trail ? It’s in Jacksonville
Awesome video! I just got into mountain biking and live in Virginia Beach. I hope to visit Berm Park soon!
I hope you make it there soon. Plan to spend some time in the whole area. DuPont and Pisgah both have a lot to offer.
I used to ride it all the time on my Giant Trance then got injured at work (shoulder)… That trail is a good gut check with a couple of rewarding drops. I’m gonna ease back into mtbiking it again with my class 1 emtb as soon as we get a break in the weather.
You can definitely tell that's WNC. The parking lot looked like a used Subaru dealership! Great video. I will definitely be making a day trip to check it out.
Man great video
Thank you
Nice riding and great video! I'll be in that area and was looking for some trails while down there. Thanks for the tour!
That looks like a good design for a straight-tracking kayak without too much overhang. It would be useful to see the design software as a basic tutorial. I am currently waiting on a response as to it would be possible to build a plumb bow and stern kayak / surfski hybrid using this software. It is a shame there is not a free test trial. Otherwise $100 could be spent to find that it does not work for the intended design
Does this software allow you to create any design kayak? or is it a matter of tweaking the in-house model? I fancy designing a stable touring surfski hybrid.
Great video! Can't wait to ride together again!
Man, this is exactly what I'm looking for, I wish there was something similar to this closer to Wilmington.
Not that blue clay or brunswick is bad, but they're kind of a lot of work with all the roots and things and I really just want something flowy so I can ride my bike in peace
It’s not far to Browns Creek. Definitely make the trip, but also, head down to Myrtle Beach and check out The Hulk. It’s a great ride!
Thanks for the tour! I’ll be in the area and was looking for places to ride. Looks like a pretty nice area. How did you get the map on the screen and color code the trails as you ride through the loop?
I'm not sure this is how he's doing it, but I know that the Sony ActionCam has a similar ability. It's pretty cool.
Here you go... : ) ua-cam.com/video/z7xGwwZnDDY/v-deo.html
@@BetterOutThanIn This is so awesome! Thank you!!
it's a beautiful boat❤, I hope that one day I can make my own boat😊
Gonna try this in eastern nc as soon as I figure out all the damn rules.
Like nice❤
Omg I'm crying 😂
They peel easier if you put on ice for an hour or two. It didn't look like you overcooked it. I used to commercially shrimp in Louisiana. Maybe next time add a little bit water to the ice to make a slurry.
They weren't too bad really. The second batch was perfect. Thanks for the tip.
WHY DID YOU NOT CLAN THEM OVER THE SINK ?
didn't think of that
Very cool I'm building one for up here in Alaska I know it would work but nobody does it until now! Giant prawns watch out. 😊
I think that was MTB Frequent Flyer youtuber you were talking to. Great video.
I think you are right. That is cool. He was a very nice dude.
bro - 10:35 I fell the EXACT same way on clickbait on the opening day. Just went back and made a new video, hitting every feature except that stupid step up!
Your video is awesome! You actually did Berm Park justice... Nicely done! We don't need no stinkin step-ups!
Almost made it there this summer on vacay, but my shredder wife was under the weather so I went solo on fire mountain instead. Next year I’ll give Berm a shot for sure 👍👍
А можно мне чертеж с размерами?
Enjoyable
At about 9:30 ish lead guy was screaming fast, but YOU were a bat outta hell nearly catching up. Kudos to both of you
Lol: cross countrified
Makes me laugh EVERY time I find it! Thanks for that!
Enjoyable.
I’m curious to know how often you’ve ridden whatever trail you’re featuring - is it familiar to you (or to the other riders). And post the date of the ride. Location. I enjoy watching and listening to the banter.
This was my first time riding out there. It is in DuPont State Forest in western NC. I rode there in July.
