The Italian Christmas Cookies Worth Making and The Rest Worth Trashing
Any and all healthy recipes you put out will definitely do well with me, Jim! You have my full support and thanks.
This is a tradition from Italy from coastal areas.
I always liked the Galloping Gormet.
A 404 error means they deleted the page. Server errors are 500 errors.
I’m Sicilian American and have been eating the Feast of Seven fishes for 64 years and have been cooking it for 38 years. Enjoyed this episode very much. My menu is alittle adjusted from growing up but mostly the same. Baked clams oreganata, spaghetti with blue crabs in tomatoe sauce, seafood salad which includes octopus, calamari, Scungilli, shrimp, with olives and celery , Warm Scungilli in crab sauce with red pepper added, mussels white wine sauce and fried calamari. My son-in-law started making lobster rolls with garlic butter spread. I only use fresh frozen Scungilli which I order from Citarella’s in NY since it’s hard to find in Miami, FL these days. I do not like the can Scungilli I find the texture to be too soft. Merry Christmas 🎄
You both have great voices. Ciao from Venezia.
Lace cookies are ok,but I pass. The Italian cookies sold are just sprinkles and cheap, and they all taste alike and are yuck. The colors make people think holidays. We always had Danish cookies in the blue tin. They are now keto.
Rainbow cookies are made with marzipan.
Recipe for ricotta cookies Please ❤❤
What do you think about Vineros bakery in the eat village? Hopefully spelling is correct
Excellent review Buon Natale e buon appetito
I love this. I've obsessed over this holiday, coming from an Italian family who were from Naples and Sicily. It's amazing how this is more an Italian-American tradition versus a true Italian thing. And everyone has an opinion of what is "traditional" or what must be served. End of the day, it really doesn't matter and there is no right or wrong way. What my dad grew up eating, which is viewed as more traditional, is different than what the family serves now. Have fun, enjoy your family, and do what you know your family will enjoy. And stop shortening Italian words... it's Calamari not Galamad. As famously said, "Go back to Jersey you bum"!! Thanks guys. Love your channel and everything you bring to it.
I moved to coastal South Carolina from Long Island in '06. When people ask me what I miss the most, besides the distinct change of seasons, is a good deli. As far as Hellmann's and Duke's, they are not the same. Hellmann's (Eastern US) and Best Foods (Western US) are basically the same.
No ! Hazelnut lace cookies are my favorite. That and almond crescent!
I don't understand your dislike of Italian butter cookies. What not to like about butter, jam and chocolate? What makes Linzers so much better? That said, still enjoyed watching.
Call the end of show w/ questions... DEEP DISH. 😊
So glad I stumbled across your podcast! Whenever I watched your cooking videos I always wondered how you became Sip and Feast and your backstory. While I have your attention…I think…I just want to say your videos on Utube are so easy to watch and so easy to make. No distracting music, not having to watch you cut and bread a dozen cutlets and using ingredients most have on hand. Keep up the great work Jim and Tara!
Tara should voice over work. She has a great voice for audiobooks!
Wondering if there will be a season 2?
I haven't watched The Food Network in years. Once they started with competitions, I lost interest.
I know it's not your point, but there is an "American Seasoning" of sorts, at least in the eyes of the UK, Australia, and some other countries. Look up what they call Ranch flavor Doritos: They call "Ranch", "American flavor". 😂😂😂😂. Anyway, thought you two would get a good laugh out of that. Keep up the good work.
Love this.
My scribbled in kitchen cookbook has a few of your recipes already!! Can’t wait for it to happen when the time is right ❤
You know what the hook was for me? It was the relaxing background music. I loved the unpretentious, relaxing, and passionate love for good cooking. Thank you!!!
Great Podcast!
I know its been a few months since this video. I love watching you guys on the video! I will turn it on if I'm driving and listen. I have had alot going on recently and haven't been able to watch as much as I would like, but I am so happy I can go back and watch them. Thank you for taking the time to do your podcast. I love watching the cooking too!
Julia Childs, Yan Can Cook & The Galloping Gormet were all of my shows
From Staten Island, NYC - GREAT NY DELI RECIPES!!! I just set up the coleslaw. (We used to live in MN for a bit too.(blah...lol))
Love this episode! I also watched Biba Cagiano and Marianne Esposito. Just want to say that as a teacher I observed so many kids watching cooking shows and I never understood why there has never been a cooking show hosted by a youngster and an adult that was geared for kids. My idea is an adult hosting a different youngster each episode and cooking with them.
I LOVE your NY deli videos. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and now live on the West Coast. Your videos are a great way to get a taste of home that I can share with my kids who were born here. Your accents also warm my heart. Keep them coming. ❤
When are you coming back on the air with your podcast?
I also already miss this Sip and Feast Podcast. I learn so much from you two. I love the chemistry. Patreon is Uncool. I won't be paying, sorry. I'd rather unsub and forget you guys.
That's only $28.66 per item. I'm surprised it's only $4,500.
slow cooker is a life saver if you work.
I’m already missing the Sip and Feast Podcast. 😢😩
Fully agree!
I’m confused. You started out talking about stainless, then you mentioned aluminum. I’m confused
Fun episode! Thanks for sharing.
"What's with the life jacket???" "Dork thinks he's gonna drown!!!" Sorry, I had to. Back to the Future quote.
Jim feeling like a curmudgeon, I can identify. For instance, the very mention of Gordon Ramsey can bring on an attack😂
Wonderful episode. Thanks for sharing your memories.
aw damn... well at least i have 40+ more podcast vids to watch. i dunno... i enjoy them!
I am a Southerner that really enjoys your deli presentations. Delicious!!
Jim and Tara I always appreciate when you take on food myths and phobias. I’m well over 50 and grew up on MSG in family cooking. None of us suffered. Then in middle age due to all the bad press around MSG, I stopped using it. Now, I still don’t have any in the kitchen, but you got me thinking I should get some soon. Talk about irony, the press is all over umami as being essential to great tasting food, and so why shouldn’t we use MSG to get that umami taste? No brainer. Love your podcasts.
I just started following you, so I'm a new. 👋 😂 But let me say…. Couldn’t agree more about The Food Network. I discovered it around 2002-2003 when I was 12 years old it honestly is what helped develop my deep passion for cooking. It's disappointing to see how it has evolved from its earlier days when it fostered a genuine appreciation for food and cooking to a network of just cooking game shows.
Tara. This truly brought me to tears. 😭 It’s so crazy, listening to you talk about it! We totally experienced this and I didn’t realize how it affected us both. I make my DOG wait, for Rich to come home, so we eat together as a family. It now makes total sense why this means so much to both of us. I love you so much. Thank you for speaking about this. It truly makes a difference in human bonding, and everything you said is absolutely true.
Very good tips about why not to preheat enameled Dutch ovens. Thanks.
My opinion, keep cooking, enjoying the podcasts, maybe make them less frequently, like once a month, or make them shorter. Twenty minutes is about right. As for cookbooks, I’m not a fan as I will buy them but rarely use them, so I won’t buy anymore. I love watching your cooking show and I watch carefully if it’s something I want to try myself, and I can usually remember how to do it, and as you have said yourself, your objective is to get the viewer to relax and take a dish in the direction that pleases your individual taste. I think UA-cam is very tough on the content creators. Burn out is always a problem. I think your content is so ambitious and wonderful. Just take time for yourselves and please keep at it once you recharge.
I find your topics on these podcasts very engaging. One more thing, and this is more from other podcasts you have done, never apologize for your accent or for NY/ Long Island. The minute I open my mouth, people here ( LA area), right away remark, and I can feel the wall go up. The older I get, the more dear my heritage is to me. Be proud of who you are and congratulate yourselves that you share your talents, your knowledge and your opinions.
Yes, like the taste test.
