I remember Chatham in the 70s and 80s when it was called the heart of Black middle class America. Could you please do a video on how the "officials" destroyed Chatham? This is the first time I have ever heard that and I would like to know the story.

Well spoken from a Chatham, real Chatham property owner, I was born and raised there, it is the only up scale all copper color people community around that's still holding on, it's still very good area considering. They have destroyed it with rezoning and section 8, so the reputation is killing the area. They did the same thing to other copper color people areas pill hill, south shore, ext. But Chatham has tough skin, and a professional base ,may be changing now.

My heart goes out to my brothers and sisters in Chicago because they are going to do you all the same way they did us in California. So please, please brace yourselves for the evil fuckery that is about to be committed. I have a special place in my heart for Chicago. Such a magnificent city with rich African American history. Chicago produced the most black intellectuals in all of the country. And of course they killed them all. 🙏

The park manor area from 71st king Dr. To 71st and state to 79th and state To 79th king Dr. Was also a very upgraded area back then and a lot of people used think it was Chatham to. Also the area called Roseland’s heights just west of Chicago state university, the other area on 95th side where the loop skating rink was at, was also like a suburb.

Yep my OG told me about how Chatham use to b a hard neighborhood to get into & bronzeville was another Mecca, southshore also.

This comment will trigger a lot of people but too bad. As a Black man that owns property in Englewood, there are people that have lived there 30, 40, 50, 60 plus years, watched the neighborhood become run down while doing absolutely nothing about it. They could have bought property either across the street, next door, or around the block yet complain when “outsiders” come in, buy property and fix it up. These are the same people that sit on their porch and watch me every day pick up garbage, or weekly cut and water the lawn, or paint. This lady made more excuses in less than four minutes than I have ever heard. She talks about Chatham and how it looked 70 years ago - mind you 70 years ago? What happened to Black people retaining their properties and passing it down in their families? She talked about “they should clean the streets, or “they” should clean the alley? Who is “they”? Tell me why the community will not take care of the space in which they live? We as Black people can do one of two things, first take action and buy property in our neighborhood, or second, keep making excuses. No worries, Chicago has a plan for the illegal aliens to move into these places and take better care of the property than we could ever imagine.

Who is “they”. People with the resources to obtain, improve and maintain neighborhoods that are historically black and have now been turned into virtual war zones through poverty, criminality and degeneracy are buying property. Why haven’t the black people in those neighborhoods collectively done the same since that opportunity existed for anyone to take advantage of?

Integration is what started the problem with the black community that end up creating gentrification because they had no power anymore and the white folks come in and take the property

Brooklyn, NY. Property prices went up and alot of people became displaced or homeless. I ended up moving to another borough of NYC and the process is happening at a faster pace here.

Wealth is legislated. Black Americans haven’t done real collective politics since the Civil Rights movement. No real politics no protection. No one talks about Cabrini Green and Robert Taylor homes. they were located in prime real estate. Mayor Daley Sr. and friends got rid of the crime ridden housing projects and replaced with condos and apartments $500k + . I grew up on 84th & Bennett and later Dolton , IL. I see how African Americans are having property legally stolen from them creating a community of renters. Why?!! Land and homes ownership us the basis of American. If you owned property, you could/can vote. Please Don’t Sell your property. Pay off the building, homes and place them in TRUSTs , Don’t put it in your wills . Make sure to pay your taxes and keep up with property maintenance/repsirs!!!! African Americans are slowly becoming 2nd class citizens with no voting rights. Stop buying luxury purses 👛 and shoes, BUY a house a fix it up and vote!!!!!
