3D print companies have been dragging money out of all of us for years. On their end? Sure, it makes sense, but Creality and all these diff companies stringing us along w small upgrades packaged as a new printer.. is old. Bambu Lab is working on a new unit, and taking time to do it, that will likely take industry by storm (multi tool printer).
True. We all jump for the next shiny thing. I do like that Bambu seems to taking bigger steps. Thanks!
That's a very interesting custom buffer solution. Definitely looks easier to load. I'm still using the default buffer on the right of my printer, but I have the filament mounted above the printer in a repbox. That filament then exits the box down the backside near the wall and into the buffer. I've been thinking about wall mounting the buffer behind the printer instead of in it's default right side, but the buffer itself isn't all that much space.
Yes that's true. I just felt like I had trouble loading and unloading into the buffer. Thanks!
No camera, no spaghetti detection, the web UI is slow, prusa needs to improve their printers, this is something new for prusa lovers, but nothing really new for the 3d printing world, the competition has better sw and app integration than prusa, so, I'm going to stick to my bambus
I completely agree with you. It's nice to see Prusa making these improvements. But most of my notifications are spaghetti etc. If the camera on the MK4s isn't integrated to catch that, it's not as useful. Thanks!
@@tada3dprinting Do you have so many problems with the MK4 that you absolutely need the spaghetti detection? You print a lot more than I do. But if something goes wrong with my printer, it's 90% my own fault.

I don't understand why Prusa hasn't come up with their own version to make it more compact. They need an mmu the size of bambu or creality to compete. Well done doing this video, please show a follow up with it working.
Since this isn't Prusa's first MMU, you really would think they would have come up with something by now! Thanks so much!
I upgraded my Mk3S to Mk4 in the last few months and I dont want to be disassembling it any time soon. Also, im not convinced that any of the new Mk4S features are useful enough to me. As others have said the app works on Mk4 so its not worth me upgrading for that.
Yeah I feel like I have been upgrading a lot lately. I want to stop tinkering and just print. I will check out the app. Thanks!
I ordered it mainly for the enhanced cooling. 75 degree overhangs are tight 😁
Can't wait! Thanks!
I've got the MK3S and wonder if anyone else is thinking of upgrading that printer to the MK4S? The cost of the upgrade kit is very pricey. Interested to see if anyone else thinks its worth it? Thanks
I have a MK3s+, to upgrade to 4s it will cost me more than 500euros which is just shy of 300 euros less for a full mk4s kit. It doesn't make sense so spend that amount of money and end up with a bunch of useless parts, might as well getting another kit and have another printer to finish any 3D printed project quicker. BUT The problem with me is that I'm undecided between an X1 Carbon from Bambu or a mk4s, I having nothing against Prusa but damn it the prices are a bit unattractive.
I’m in the same boat. Unfortunately my bed is defunct, and the 4s kit doesn’t seem to ship an improved version (in particular the bearing mounts). And as @ripmax333 noted, it’s not that much more expensive to just buy a full kit. 🤷🏼♂️
Yeah it's nice that Prusa offers upgrades for all the different printers. But sometimes it's not really cost or time efficient to upgrade. Thanks!
I have a single MK3S+, and just upgraded my MMU2 to MMU3. The 3 is much more reliable in its stock form. Assuming the 4s is a similar jump in reliability / quality / speed, I definitely plan to upgrade.
That makes sense. And it's supposed to be a little more simple. We will see! Thanks!
I won't order the upgrade. The extra speed is only available if you print with thicker layer lines. Although examples look great, it is not what I am going to use. I mainly print at 0.1 and 0.15 mm lines to preserve the details. The movement along the axes is not going faster. The extension board may be interesting, but I'll wait to see what the possibilities are. If there will be an upgrade for the XL I certainly will be interested. The XL does have some extra power to move the printhead a bit faster along the x and y axis.
That's an interesting point that I don't think many are picking up on. So is a high flow 0.4 nozzle at 0.18 layer height really any different than than .6 nozzle with .18 layer height? I am hoping the extension board works for a camera at least. Thanks!
I had two MK3S machines and added an MK4. The speed increase on the MK4 convinced me to upgrade both MK3S machines to MK3.5. This is by far the most cost effective upgrade I have done. $250 increased the speed to around 90% of the MK4 speed. The wireless integration with the slicer is another huge bonus in ease of use. I probably won't do the MK4S upgrade unless there is an equivalent upgrade for the MK3.5.
Oh that's a great step up! Thanks!
Been thinking of getting one as my "cozy silent" printer. Would be neat if you could try out some really soft TPU on it as that extruder was supposedly good with it. So like ~60A tpu
I really like Overture brand TPU on the MK4. I think its 95A. I do wonder if the MK4S will make it easier to print. Thanks!
I hear ya on managing profiles on multiple printers. As a hobbyist with one printer it's not an issue. For me the better cooling on the MK4S is worth it so did order the upgrade. I don't really care about the high flow nozzle. I did order the GPIO and accelerometer mainly to just to play with. It was good to mention the two display styles, before ordering. Always enjoy your videos 🙂
Thanks so much! Yes I am hoping camera support is coming soon with those other add-ons!
@@tada3dprinting I hear ya on the camera, that would be nice.
Great review as always!
Thanks so much!
No brainer upgrade for me, since I only got one printer. I also want to buy a few Prusament Rolls and will order them with the upgrade. Didn't order it yet, though. Need to wait until PCCF is available.
Good idea! And hopefully the upgrade will be pretty simple!
The Prusa App, looks ok, but I’ve been using Octoprint since my first MK3, and now a fairly new helper App called OctoApp has made the experience a lot more flexible on tablet or phone. It needs a payment to use more than one printer, but it’s a lifetime subscription for the price of a round of drinks. Definitely worth a look - it also works on Klipper based printers. Android and Mac.
App works without upgrading, speed is nice, but best upgrade is that 75° overhangs, it saves a lot of supports and you did not even mention it.
I try to design my prints to not need supports because I have never been happy with the bottom layer. But I agree that this will be a huge improvement. And may make try out some different things. Thanks!
The high overhang accomplishment is not due to the new 360 cooling but to the slicer... Orca / Bambu studio has a bug wich makes it consider overhang as bridges, if you slow down your bridge speed you will see that X1C/P1/P1S give better results in overhangs... The bug was fixed in prusa Slicer.
Oh good to know! Thanks!
You don't need to use the buffer or the spool holders. There are many different options on how to set it up. I still need to upgrade my MMU2S to MMU3, but I have filament stored in a dry box above the printer. There is a PTFE tube coming out of the Dry box, filament goes through this and then in the PTFE tube of the MMU. While printing the PTFE tubes join together, when not loaded the PTFE tubes separate creating a "buffer" on the fly.
Oh that's sounds nice and compact! Thanks!
Isnt the app just in the app store? You can add your Prusa XL and MK4's too. Even the Mini is in the option field.
Yes. I hadn't connected any printers yet so they didn't pull up in the app. I'll check it out. Thanks!
Actually the most expensive part in the mk4 to mk4s upgrade is the high-flow nozzle. But on 0.4mm the higher volumetric flow is only made use of in the new 0.28 mm layerhight draft mode... App also works on mk4, nfc is nice but not worth an upgrade etc. The only upgrade worth it imho is the new cooling solution. But I am sure the fan will becomming available soon (tm) as a spare part. But as I only had one mk3s+ upgraded to mk4 yet, I used the oportunity to order an mk3 to mk3.9s upgrade. Two of my mk3s have a zOrbiter2 printhead with Revo hotend. With the mk3s upgrade I practicly get the parts to upgrade the mk4 to mk4s, one mk3 to mk3.5 (without "s") and a Nextruder for other projects. So I get the Nextruder for only 171€ more compared to the price I would have paid for the mk3 to mk3.5 upgrade a month ago and the mk4 to mk4s upgrade now combined. 171€ for a Nextruder is quite a deal. Someone else actually uses a Nextruder on a voron. He works on making the loadcell work with klipper. But getting a Nextruder seperatly is nearly impossible. So now is the cheapest way to get one...
Yeah I didn't even think about them having misc parts available to just upgrade what you want. Thanks!
I think the $99 is a sweet spot for an upgrade kit for the MK4 which definitely helps existing MK4 owners consider upgrading. I know I am.
Yes that's true! And it sounds like it shouldn't be too complicated of an upgrade. Thanks!
I'm just ordered my upgrade today. The thing that clinched it for me was the improved overhang angle. That will mean less support material being used (and in a sense 'wasted'), which will significantly cut back on the waste for me. I'm interested to see how the high flow nozzles work out. I won't be using the phone app though. I don't use Prusa Connect because I see it as an unnecessary risk to expose my printer to the internet. There are plenty of examples of 3d printers getting hacked, including AnyCubic earlier this year. I gain nothing by using Prusa Connect but it's likely that people are actively trying to get into big companies' servers. There are other risks as well, but it's just easiest for me to keep my printer inside my own network.
The app is compatible with ALL printers from prusa: prusa mk3 (with raspberry attached to have network connection), prusa mini, prusa mk4, prusa xl. I installed and have acces to my mk3 and prusa xl though it.
Thanks so much! I will try it out!
I am on a wait and see My MK4 have been doing well as it came Prusa and dad told me "do not fix what is not broken" I do not like to update something that is working well for the carrot of speed. The hold printing world is pushing speed out of printers well I got a k1 and k1 max and soon my K2 plus will arrive I find lower speed makes a better print and less clean up work sanding, filling in cracks with UV resin before painting and assembly.
Yes I agree. Especially since the MK4s still feel new. Yeah I'd rather have a completed print than something printed fast that warps etc. Thanks
I will upgrade my mk4 at some point, but I am in no rush. The main things that interest me are the cooling which should improve overhangs and the new parts that are more heat resistant....i run my mk4 in an enclosure (print alot of ABS) and do worry how some of the parts will hold up in the 40oC + heat
Oh that's a good point. I'm sure they would have that info in the instructions. Thank you!
I have purchased the MK4S upgrade, the accelerometer, and the Hack board few hours later the announcement, you know, with the PRUSA shipping, the sooner, the better 😎 I like the high speed / high flow capabilities and the overhang cooling features. However my MK4 works flawlessly, never ever got issues, so I am worried that during dismounting and reassembling the Murphy Laws put their sight on my printer...😫 Moreover in the past I did not purchased a BambuLab because it is too loud for printing at home with sensitive neighbours, and looking at the new fan, it seems to bring the MK4 toward the Bambulab noise level...😐
I have my MK4 in an enclosure which cuts down on the noise. I also highly recommend printing some TPU feet and replacing the rubber feet that came with the printer. It's MUCH quieter with the TPU feet. I don't have the link but the STL was free somewhere on Printables.
Yes I am a little nervous about taking apart a new printer that doesn't need anything for this upgrade. Better overhangs and bridging will be great! Thanks!
Really good video. So far, all the other reviews/responses I've seen focus on the speed and cooling. You're the first one I've seen focus on the app more than the other features. You've got the same reasons I would want the app: When the print stops unexpectedly. It's great to see another point of view from the community. ^_^
Thanks so much for watching!
I got the upgrade. It’s a small upgrade - same as MK3S - but all welcome changes. Really looking forward high flow working with MMU! Also got the hacker board and accelerometers… no reason why but I am sure community will come up with cool things to do with them! And a + should come in a year or two…!
Oh that will be nice! Yeah I'm hoping for an integrated camera option. Thanks!
Actually hearing you say that the app was deciding factor to buy this makes me so glad that I'm running Bambu Lab machines. I've never known anything else and with that said, I can't recommend them enough right now.
As others have said, the app will work perfectly fine with your non upgraded Mark 4 printers. If you don't care about the increased speed, the main upgrade of the Mark 4S is the better cooling, and if you had no real issues with cooling then there wouldn't be much of a reason to upgrade
Great! Thanks so much!
I don't have any need for the MKS4, but feel your frustration on having different printers with different slicer profiles. It can be a challenge and I'll guess more for you running a business that depends on good reliable output.
Thanks for seeing my point. I'm planning to streamline the type of printers I have. Just trying to decide which one can do it all!
@@tada3dprinting I like experimenting with new and different ones. That's why I have such a strange mix, one Bambu X1C, a Prusa XL, two Rat Rig V core 3, and I just got a Peopoly Magnet X and have a Rat Rig Vcore 4 kit in six un opened boxes. I'm trying to make space to put it together.
I got the upgrade kit. I thought the overhang improvement could be useful. I am printing something different every time. I think the speed is a nice improvement. But mostly, I got it because... Shiny new object. I am still learning 3D printing and it would be disappointing to learn I've been trying to optimize something that has been fixed by prusa already. For example there is a phone stand that I have printed maybe 20 times because it is a great gift for friends. And I have fixed an overhang issue by modifying the model. But with the new update maybe I would not have to.
Oh that's cool! Yes I can see your point about using the best printer available. Thanks!
The MK4S is reported to be able to handle 75 degree over hangs very well, at high speed. I have been using the app with my XL.
That is just a slicer bug, Bambu studio / Orca has a bug (prusa slicer had too but it was fixed)... If the bug is fixed X1 and P1 will give better ovberhang results if compared to the Mk4S. ua-cam.com/video/HcSOz-Lsxgg/v-deo.htmlsi=GkLdoWXdAitESb8b
That would be amazing! Thanks!
I ordered the kit but I use obsidian nozzles so I'm not interested in swapping. I do like the better cooling. I would like to get away with less supports.
You missed the obsidian HIGH FLOW nozzle they have now in the store 😀 When I added to the MK4S order some spare copper 0.4 high flow, I saw also the Obsidian HF (not inside the upgrade package), but I did not purchased it since It costs a fortune. 😮 I have my obsidian "normal" that I have never used yet, so for now I did not consider purchasing also an Obsidian HF as a priority. But since you use it, you could take advantage from an MK4S and an Obsidian HF nozzle ...😁
@@RobertoColi nice! You're right I didn't see them. I'll add them to my order then. I'm surprised they didn't mention them in the official announcement video.
Good to know! Yes better cooling for overhangs and bridging will be nice! Thanks!
The "Prusa" app is compatible with the MK4 you already have. I have both of mine connected and working. I imagine it will work with the XL as well but not tested here.
The app is basically a simplified Prusa Connect. It doesn't have all the features of Connect as far as print starting and control, but it does have the notifications that Connect lacks. I use it with my MK3s+ machines running Link from a Pi Zero W, as well as my XL5 and it works well. There is no need to upgrade any machine that is already able to work with Link and Connect.
I use it with my MK4 and XL.
Awesome! I'll check this out! Thanks!
Yeah my Mini and my XL both show up in the app - I still have to test ist, but I hope I can get rid of the connect notifications with Discord now.
As far as I understand the new Prusa app uses the Prusa Connect framework to receive notifications. So if your current Prusa printers are logged into Prusa Connect the app notifications should just work. I will order the Mk4S upgrade soon, but probably won't rush to install it - just put to the side until I get around to servicing my printer. Lots of life left in my current Obsidian nozzles! 😀
Yeah it's hard to modify something that's still working! Thanks, I'll check this out!
I was wondering if you were going to get the upgrade for your printers. I ordered my upgrade already along with the breakout board and the accelerometer, just for fun. Regarding the app, I installed the app on my iPad as soon as it was announced and it works with my current MK4. I didn't really expect anything much from it until a job finished and I got a notification on my iPad. This is like Bambu Studio and I like that feature a lot. The app looks very much like Prusa Connect, which I have used for some time. I have the current firmware on my MK4, I don't know if that is required.
Except this app doesnt want access to your contacts, photos and god knows what! Prusa has a much higher standard than Bambu Labs regarding (possible) privacy violations...
Oh that's so cool! Definitely worth those notifications! I'll have to set that up! Thanks so much!
What market places do you sell on? Would be cool to see a video about the business side of things :)
Thanks! I 3D print and sell dollhouse miniatures. My Etsy shop is Etsy.com/shop/MyLilVillage and I just opened a small booth in my town. Here is the video on that - ua-cam.com/video/fX8VnBoNdk8/v-deo.htmlsi=rvwO9KS2-j6ix5MH thanks!
As I understood it you don't need the upgrade to use the app. It's already working properly with my mk4. But ordered the upgrade anyway.
Oh that's great to know! I had gone through the app and thought I only saw the MK4S as an option. I'll have to check that out. Thanks!
@@tada3dprinting I think it just talks to prusa connect which you probably already set up?
I have the MK3S, since the MK4 and now the MK4S which appear to be the full baked version, the print quality isn't impressively different, it is faster. For home use, if the print takes 2 more hours while I sleep, no advantage to being faster. If they came out with a 12 x12 print bed, I'd be in. I really like Prusa, but they are stuck with one idea.
Yes I agree. A fraction faster isn't going to change my world. But a larger bed would. Even a 10" cubed would be nicer than the standard MK3/4 size. Thanks!
37:09 Question. How do you adjust the location of those holders later, if you need to move them up or down?
There are two tracks on each side. They just clamp in place when you screw them in with the allen key. So you can just loosen and slide them where you need them. Thanks!
Now Imagine having an Enclosure, Any Solution for that?
I would think your filament should all be able to sit on top. Does the original Prusa buffer fit inside the enclosure? Thanks!
Looks like a fun kit. I just checked and the motor is $5 which is reasonable, but shipping is $7, so will see if I need spare parts. I just received over $100 in parts, so probably OK for now. I had to replace my first stage feeder on the AMS, now have spares, and it seems to be working.
Oh yeah that's a good point. Best as an add on. Thanks!
Looks like fun! Ther are also a couple of models for submarines that use that same kit on Maker World. DSV Bambu Kit 010 Submarine and DSV Bambu Kit 010 (remix) from atm473
Haha that whale is pretty cool! I didn't even think to see what people remixed them already! Thanks!
UA-cam algorithm! I asked for 3D PEN videos not 3D PRINTER videos! Either way great video
Haha! Thanks for watching!
