    I'm on a mission to make fire, so I watch videos like this but this, I have to say, was terrible. Just awful. You could hardly sound more like an egotistical, pompous twat lecturing children. Where's the friendly humility? The mateship? Your punishment is to listen to this again and again until you get sick of the sound of your own voice, and then do it like you are showing a friend a trick, not lecturing from a pulpit. This is a two minute video hammered out into an eighteen minute lecture. Do better!

    Isn't it easier to tie two sticks together instead of making a hole in one stick for the fireboard? The ember will fall through the crack them between into the bundle.

    • @danielww9022
      @danielww9022 Місяць тому

      That is definitely another option, especially for those who do not carry a cutting tool. I recommend drilling at the very ends of the sticks so that the char will fall onto the dust pan, though.

      @anonanonymous1988 yeah, it might be. My favorite way is to drill a tunnel into the side of the board, and then drill into that from the top. Very quick & easy. I'll shoot a clip of that this weekend when I park this rig, but if you're interested in seeing it before then, you can find it on NW Primate's channel. That's where I first saw it, and it's become my standard method ever since. I think his demo video is called "alternative side hole" or something like that.

      Yes. Everything is hotter at the bottom of the drill. If you tilt that spindle so the bottom aims right at the dust, she'll light up line no one's business. Just wait until the notch is full. Ok,you obviously didn't do your research on this knife prior to purchase. For one, the back teeth are only meant to make notches in limbs for running rope through as in tying down a tarp for protection. Also,as smallish this knife is, it should only be advised for very small diameter limbs, not batoning large diameter piees of wood. You mentioned the sawback could cut open aircraft grade aluminum materials, absolute crap. You are doing your followers a disservice.

    • @danielww9022
      @danielww9022 3 місяці тому

      So far, I have turned a 5' long cedar log into kindling by batonning with this knife. The blade doesn't need to extend the entire diameter of the timber; all you need to do is remove chunks. As with other things, size doesn't matter, as long as you know how to use the tool. As for the teeth in the spine, the knife was designed for a military unit to tear apart choppers. I haven't tested it on aluminum, but you might argue your point with TOPS. As for me, the teeth are plenty sharp enough to grind a handful of shavings, & that's how I use it. The more you use your tool, the better you'll come to know it and be able to use it in more ways than what you see others do in UA-cam videos.

    That is basically a spike. It is entirely too short and thick to be any good at slicing and too short for efficient chopping. It's not good for much other than stabbing through a lot of clothes or a thick animal hide and probably some bones. It'd be good for opening a 55gal drum or as a tent peg. Too short as a saw. Yeah, very limited uses in all reality. Self defense and rescue is about it. But, hey, if you dig it, that's all you bud. There are much more versatile blades out there that are of similar length.

    I put a serious effort and finally got the cuts to look right. On my set up I dialed back the acetylene back to about 2 3/4 and oxygen to 27. After failing to cut thru on one pass but the cut looked good I decided add more oxygen pressure and it worked . I did use a burn bar to help me maintain the right distance the only thing I need to work on now is my travel speed. Thanks for all the help I would not have got this on my own. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your schedule to put this video together. I had tried it last week and even knowing I was too hot I still had it welding back on itself. I didn't use a guide bar. I did use a 3/0 tip and dialed back the pressure to 3lbs on the acetylene and 15 on oxygen and it was still closing back up. I will after watching this video give it another try. Seeing you do it I know it's possible. My attempts last week were better than before I had watch your video but I'm not there yet.

    • @danielww9022

      15 psi is too low for the air. Try about 25psi oxygen, maybe about 3psi acetylene. Remember, you need a nice "neutral" flame, and 23-25 psi air should get you there with 3psi of gas. You're really close to dialing it in. Just throw a little bit more oxygen at it to blow out the cut. Let me know how it goes.

    I second your evaluation of the Digger. I modified one side of mine. I gave the modified side a full convex and serrations on the draw knife portion. If I had bought it factory direct I would have requested serrations on one side. Mostly for additional cutting options. I don’t baton with mine but it is possible to bury one edge in a log and use the other edge as you would a double bit axe. The middle blade depression works great as an ember catch for bowdrill fires. I haven’t tried it yet but plan on using a magnetized needle on a leaf floating in the same depression. I think a tracker is best used with imagination. Great video! Your T-1 looks well used and loved. Thanks!

    I believe I'm in love with the idea of the tracker. More then I actually like the tracker. Let me first say I've only used one I don't own one. That said I didn't like the grind. Now if it was my knife I would have reprofiled it. My friend was treating it like a fragile work of art. I guess if I spent that much I'd feel some kinda way. Well actually pissed off my knife didn't do anything good. Tops had the worst grinds ever. I just kinda bit my tongue and didn't say how I really felt. I'm sure he knows because he has brought the knife out again. Now that digger is a interesting design. Almost reminds me of the ww2 bolo or a small smatchet.

      I keep the same grind on the large ¼-round because it works as a wedge when splitting kindling. It needs to chop well, not really slice. I did reshape the small ¼- round & straight edge, though, making them closer to a Saber grind. You've got to be careful, though, because a sharper edge on 1095 will roll when you're chopping through harder material. On the other hand, I try to use softer wood for kindling and save the hard stuff for the hot coals. These knives are work horses
