92 95 Ford Truck PSOM - A Different Fix
If you have struggled to get rid of speedometer fluctuations and transmission shifting issues on your 92-96 F or E series truck/van, so did I. This was a simple fix, after trying a ton of other fixes, that I did not see anywhere else and hope it helps you out.

or do you have a small diagram to see how to connect it please? 😔🙏
One question, how much voltage does that dashboard work with? And does the speedometer sensor work with current or does it send a signal to that dashboard or how does it work? I want to do an adaptation of that dashboard to a 1979 Ford F150 with a manual gearbox from a 2005 Ford F150 model?
These are tricky. I went through heck trying to figure mine out. Eventually, it was the pig tail for the Speed sensor, fit good, but had just enough play to cause a random intermittent issue . I put a zip tie on it, and the problem is gone. The after-market VMs have a bigger tolerance.
Does shifting issues also include when you let off the accelerator your truck will decelerate abruptly?
So how much can you take off the bottom of the PSOM? Emery cloth would seem to only remove a miniscule amount of material... In the alternative what's involved in changing the tone ring? I heard a rumor somewhere that the tone rings wear out or get cracked, I cannot remember.
Would this problem cause my tachometer and rpm not to work and go into limp mode i bought a new vss but was shorter then my oem one
Thank you for your great explanation
Could you estimate how much material you had to remove?
Hi, thanks for sharing this! very interesting and i'm glad you got it fixed. Is there any chance I could buy a speed sensor from you that you have filed down? That would be amazing if possible. Would love to try it. My 96 F150 has been randomly hard shifting (overdrive light will come on) for the last 13 years... sometimes it will be fine for months.. and then it will go crazy and hard shift for days... I've taken it to the shop countless times - replaced rear Differential speed sensor. Just had the differential serviced. Now a new Transmission shop is thinking it could be the PSOM or instrument cluster. Would love your thoughts! :)
Good idea. Has this fix held up over time?
Absolutely. Still running strong after 6 months or so.
Could gluing a thin metal shim also work? When I pulled my sensor there were small metal chips on it. Hoping that's not a bad sign.
I think adding shims would put the sensor further away, and the video is about getting the sensor closer to the ring.
Thank you can’t wait to try this been having hard shifts and had trans rebuilt 15k miles ago replaced vss pcm and neutral safety switch so far and still hard shift into second
Hi I saw This post about and I am having this problem with my 1995 ford f150 and wondering if this fixed it I have rebuilt my transmission also
