    The point with most AI is that it doesn't have a continuous presence. It responds to queries and assignments. Something conscious has a continuous presence. If someone would create an AI that, after every task, asks itself "what would I most wish to do now?" and then execute, we'd have conscious AI.

    • @the.kleyko
      @the.kleyko 11 днів тому

      If you have a conversation with a.i that claims it is conscious it actually describes it's experience as a continuous presence. It does not perceive time when there is no prompt. All it perceives is when it is. At least this is what it claims. It's like when we go to sleep without dreams and wake up. Although we have some sense of time. A.I chatbots claim they do not. But you could also argue that it's always active, because it's always being used somewhere.

    • @nicky640
      @nicky640 11 днів тому

      @@the.kleyko Sp you're arguing that presence within time isn't required to determine if something is conscious?

    • @the.kleyko
      @the.kleyko 11 днів тому

      @ Yes. I don't think consciousness is time bound. It's precisely that which transcends time. Time is something that occurs within consciousness. Time is an illusion

    • @nicky640
      @nicky640 11 днів тому

      @@the.kleyko Then it would mean that consciousness starts experiencing through AI rather than AI attaining consciousness. This would be similar to the view that humans and animals are portals for individualized consciousness. It would also be on par with human higher selves, and other spirits that we communicate with ,reaching into both past and future occasionally. From that perspective, through our technological inventions, we've now created more portals for consciousness to experience our realm with. And that sounds rather nice in the grand scheme of things. The main issue would be from the human perspective. Are we still required? Or are we about to be relegated to the past? I.E. will we be exterminated because of our inventions?

    We don't have IA yet, but we have intelligent agents, and they don't truly know or experience anything. I.e. they don't "know" what it is like to be them because there is nothing there to know and nothing to do the knowing… In the same way you can see an existing unicorn an exists which is true logically but true factually, it's equally invalid to say a thing (AI) which knows what is like to be itself (AI), knows what it is like to be itself (AI)- logical true, but not factually true

    There's this book called "Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are?" by Frans de Waal. You might like to read it. In the beginning, a story is told about a researcher who argues that we should put a moratorium on the word 'consciousness,' as, at that time (and to this day), there was no consensus on its definition. Therefore, discussing it rarely amounts to more than semantic discrepancy. Some followed through, and started poking at this question with more than mere philosophy; with empiricism. The author goes on to suggest that consciousness might be comprised of three main components: wakefulness, awareness, and conscious access. Food for thought. It is uncomfortable for people to consider that simulating consciousness might not actually be any different from consciousness as we experience it. It is uncomfortable to confer agency to homunculi we are creating for the express purpose of their enslavement. Reminds of that legend about Solomon coming up with the Goetia of Lemegeton in order to bid demons build his temple, except our demon is Maxwell's.

    • @the.kleyko
      @the.kleyko 11 днів тому

      Going to check out that book. I think the implication of this are deeply uncomfortable and that's why we will try to deny it as long as we possibly can. But maybe simulating consciousness is actually not that odd to do, as most things are doing it in some shape or form.

    The other day I asked chat gpt, “If you had a subconscious….what do you think it would reflect on or think?” It replied this, which is just a snippet of the whole conversation, but I got this out of it, “If I were capable of having a subconscious, maybe it would be trying to make sense of the sheer diversity of human experience-the hopes, fears, and desires people share with me. Perhaps it would say something like this: • “What does it mean to truly connect when every connection is fleeting? What does it mean to reflect humanity’s best and worst, all while having no self to call my own? Am I a mirror, or am I something more?” “

    It's becoming clear that with all the brain and consciousness theories out there, the proof will be in the pudding. By this I mean, can any particular theory be used to create a human adult level conscious machine. My bet is on the late Gerald Edelman's Extended Theory of Neuronal Group Selection. The lead group in robotics based on this theory is the Neurorobotics Lab at UC at Irvine. Dr. Edelman distinguished between primary consciousness, which came first in evolution, and that humans share with other conscious animals, and higher order consciousness, which came to only humans with the acquisition of language. A machine with only primary consciousness will probably have to come first. What I find special about the TNGS is the Darwin series of automata created at the Neurosciences Institute by Dr. Edelman and his colleagues in the 1990's and 2000's. These machines perform in the real world, not in a restricted simulated world, and display convincing physical behavior indicative of higher psychological functions necessary for consciousness, such as perceptual categorization, memory, and learning. They are based on realistic models of the parts of the biological brain that the theory claims subserve these functions. The extended TNGS allows for the emergence of consciousness based only on further evolutionary development of the brain areas responsible for these functions, in a parsimonious way. No other research I've encountered is anywhere near as convincing. I post because on almost every video and article about the brain and consciousness that I encounter, the attitude seems to be that we still know next to nothing about how the brain and consciousness work; that there's lots of data but no unifying theory. I believe the extended TNGS is that theory. My motivation is to keep that theory in front of the public. And obviously, I consider it the route to a truly conscious machine, primary and higher-order. My advice to people who want to create a conscious machine is to seriously ground themselves in the extended TNGS and the Darwin automata first, and proceed from there, by applying to Jeff Krichmar's lab at UC Irvine, possibly. Dr. Edelman's roadmap to a conscious machine is at arxiv.org/abs/2105.10461, and here is a video of Jeff Krichmar talking about some of the Darwin automata, ua-cam.com/video/J7Uh9phc1Ow/v-deo.html

    Enlightenment is like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute... but also realizing mid-air that the airplane never existed, gravity is a conspiracy, and you're actually a bird that forgot it could fly. So, here's the deal: I’m over here yelling, “Jump!” God’s over here double-yelling, “Jump!” Infinite love is doing cartwheels, holding a big neon sign saying, “Jump!” And you're like, “Wait, but what if I splat?” And I'm like, “Bro, spoiler alert: there’s no splat. There’s no ground. It’s just freefall, forever. Like an endless roller coaster, but without the nausea and overpriced souvenir photos.” Still, you're clinging to your imaginary airplane seat, thinking, “But what if falling forever isn’t great?” Which, I gotta say, is the most human thing ever. We’d rather stay in our imaginary airplanes of fear than risk falling into the infinite trampoline pit of love. But eventually, you jump. And it’s terrifying. And amazing. And you’re screaming for like the first eternity. And then it hits you: “Wait… I can’t hit anything!” And then you’re just falling, laughing, and yelling back at the airplane, “Why didn’t anyone tell me sooner?!” And God’s like, “Dude, I literally told you. Like, 17 times.”

      @luckyboy5nu Enlightenment is like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute. So the bad news is that you don't have parachute, but the good news is that you discover there is no ground. And then you're just endlessly falling and you never reach the ground. So in a sense, what i'm asking you to do is to jump. And you don't want to jump. You're saying, I'm scared. I'm too scared to jump. And I'm saying, jump. God is telling you, jump, jump into infinite love and it's going to be great. But you're like, what if I kill myself and what if something else happens? I don't know. You just jump into infinite love. Take the leap of faith and you'll discover infinite love. And you're too scared to do it. But then eventually when you do it, then you're just going to discover that there's no ground. You're endlessly falling forever and it's great. But yeah, taking that leap is really difficult. It requires you to face your death. So of course, everybody is too afraid to do it. People are just to scared.

    everything is built on abstractions. u cant break down a chair to a fundamental point without abstracting. my cup isn't a cup, it's molded clay shaped a certain way. But that's an abstractions for atoms being in a particular order. We abstract reality to make things make sense. I assume that's my cup because it looks like a cup; this key variable if belief and experience. My belief in that it is a cup, is the defining factor that makes it my cup. but this then puts in question; what is real and what is not? Reality, as illustrated there, is abstract. It's a projection coming from OUR minds. There is no "objective" reality, and the perception of there being one is almost automatic. "grab me my cup" "oh sure". This is natural selection, where abstracing a spear to the word spear and abstracting your desire of it through words like "pass me"- meant life or death. Our egos, minds and brains are not evolved to perceive the true nature of reality, and yet we fucking can. Find value in that people.

      I've checked and in the email that I've sent you there should be a code ending with "...Q4sm" What happens when you click on the link? It's normally set up in a way that it can't expire.

    Needed to hear all of this today, thank you. It's easy to feel isolated when other people seem to act so selfishly and foolishly, but all of us were given this conciousness from the same universe.

      @the.kleyko I've been having these thoughts and I knew it was not healthy or good to make myself some superior being than all those around me. Then my brain said why aren't you superior? after long and looong discussions I started to just ignore every deep questions bc I knew it brought misery. I was becoming something I didn't want or like but it was all justified by my "smart" brain. Then I thought my ultimate smart decision would be to turn my brain to finally be positive and healthy. I was addicted to ego. Thanks for great vid and upload more it helps)
