Portugal Delicious and Healthy Cuisine!
There are really good, beautiful Americans!
yeap, pastel da nata was the thing i missed the most during the 7 years out of the country in the netherlands. i missed also the food. i guess my taste buds missed more portugal than me. i was working and enjoying it all. it was worth it. glad you are enjoying yourself here! stay strong 🤠😎
Thank you for your comment and well wishes. I agree even when we leave Portugal, even for a few days, we always miss the pastel da natas…and the wine! Have a great week!
Thank you. Obrigada. Would love to know where that Mexican restaurant is. Would you mind sharing? I’m arriving in Setúbal next week!
@@JenShea It is called Pico de Gallo. Right in the center of Setúbal. Good luck to you. I’m sure you will love it here!
You have indicated that you take a pension and social security. I will assume you have traditional and Roth IRAs. It is beyond difficult to determine if annual earnings, but not distributions, from both traditional and Roth IRAs are taxable (assume not NHR status). Comment? Since NHR is no longer available, it appears that the combination of Social Security, pensions, and dividends would easily put one in the 48% Portuguese tax bracket versus less than 1/2 that in the U.S. I also agree, that contributing to the country's economy is important and would be happy to pay reasonably higher taxes. Your thoughts please. Thank you
@keithrosenblum3862 This is very complicated and is different for different situations. Our best suggestion would be to talk to an immigration attorney as they keep up with the many changes in the laws. Best of luck!
Another great video! I love the insight on the food!
First timer - subscribed ! Loved your vlog & your life sounds fabulous. Merry Christmas. I agree on Positano but I actually love the entire Amalfi coast especially during the wine festival season.
Merry Christmas to you, too! Thanks for subscribing!
Great video! Thank you for the info on healthcare!! So helpful. I hope all is okay now for both of you. PS I like the subtitles!
Glad it was helpful! Hope you are having a great holiday season!
@@americanslivinginportugal Thank you! You as well. 🎄❤💚
We really enjoy your videos. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for watching!
I hope you asked for the NHR to pay less taxes in Portugal because it will end in December 2024. In relation to taxes, if you earn more than the average salary of €1200 in Portugal, you will pay a lot
This really only affects high income earners.
You don't lose anything by talking to them
@ if you are tax residents in Portugal. Don't forget that the average salary in Portugal is €1200 and if you haven't planned your taxes you could end up paying up to 48% of your income

Beautiful discovery to your channel thank you for the sharing 👍 👍
There are a couple of Apple stores in Portugal, as well as Apple-authorised resellers and technical support reps. If you go to your Apple Support app on your phone, you can even schedule a visit and check out what the cost should be, etc. Enjoy your time over here! :)
there's a good treatment for asthma, the "Termas". it's the same as a spa but not a common one. inform yourselves which is best for your case with any general practitioner doctor. a phone call and a quick reservation will do the trick but may have waiting period. don't forget your bath suits and prepare yourselves to drink sulfurous water, bathe, etc. truthfully, the water smells like ass. 😂 now seriously, very hygienic and clean. does wonders. has sulfur in it so it does smell. the taste has a slight tang but never the less quite drinkable. stay strong 🤠😎
Golden visa was never really meant for people who want to actually live in Portugal. The Portuguese government has largely retooled the visa by investment, but for anyone wanting to actually live here, it is still easily the worst option.
Hmmm... Can't turn off close captions... It's very distracting
@@upcycledcopycat8389Thanks for letting me know me know!
I agree. Love the content but I have to minimize the video.
Olá Crystal & Rob, It's nice to see another of your videos. I'm going to share a little Fun Fact with you. Thanksgiving actually started in Canada... we also celebrate it, but in October, as our harvest season is earlier than in the USA. Most 'Americans' don't know this :) * that could be why the butcher was mistaken. Perhaps he looked up Thanksgiving and found ours. I've rented a place in Setúbal (with a view of the water) for 3 months... I plan to visit Sesimbra a few times!! Thanks for sharing all your travel experiences :) Boa Festas - Boa Natal
Thanks for the information and sorry I bid not realize this. That’s great! Let me know when you are close to us. I think you will love it!
If you enjoyed Santorini try the Azores islands
@@PedroLamyLaranjeira planning on visiting soon. Thank you!
You answered a lot of questions. Visiting Lisbon and the Algarve next June and can't wait.
Thank you! We wish you the best! Also, there is another update video coming today at 5 PM WET time. We hope it helps!
Gorgeous photos!
Autoimmune disorders are increasing exponentially here in the states. Even among many of us who believe we are following a healthier diet. They’re destroying our food. I can eat corn every day in Mexico, and one meal in the states will make me sick. Planning on moving to Spain or Italy for a healthier slower paced life prior to my. Retirement.
Totally agree. Good luck to you. Living in Europe is so much better for my particular health and hope it is for yours as well!
i love it that you left the public for those who need to use it.
Great video, thank you for your insight. We moved here for similar reasons, better health being a big one. It's funny I've only eaten fast food once or twice and was like meh, after 6 months it was so poor compared to a local burger place we have here in Guimarães. We have been here for one year now and I'm looking forward to living in more areas around Portugal soon. Até a próxima!
@@Zzues Happy Thanksgiving! We are so thankful to be in this country!
@americanslivinginportugal Happy Thanksgiving to you both as well! We are undecided if we want to create a new Thanksgiving with some Pichana this year or try and find a turkey 😂. We are grateful to be here as well, shocked it's been a year already for us!
We currently live in Sesimbra and were able to pre-order a fresh turkey from the local butcher....just in case you need one for next year. Have a great day!
@@americanslivinginportugal I will try that next year or before and practice some Thanksgiving recipes 😁.
Thanks you for this video. Very helpful!
Glad it was helpful to you!
We love Christmas in Europe. Germany is also one of our favorites!
Please comment and share your Christmas experiences in Europe! Let's learn from each other! 🎄😊
Por favor, may I ask if you had Medicare before you left and if so, did you drop it when you left? I am considering emigrating to Portugal after several recon trips there and am trying to figure out what to do with Medicare, because if I drop it and then find myself having to go back to the US, they will essentially fine me through higher payments for having dropped it. I very much appreciate your entire helpful presentation. It is a great help with my research. Muito obrigado!

Thank you @susanvalvo625!
We need help with the visa D7 my husband is from Canada and we are in Capetown South Africa can you help
Hi Judy. I highly recommend connecting with an immigration attorney first. We have had wonderful results with Gabriel at gk@eurogateimmigration.com. I also offer private consultations if that would be helpful: www.americanslivinginpt.com There are many things to know and I would be happy to help! Good luck to you!
Hi @judympulo7033. If you are able, you can setup a private appointment with us. We can share contacts and are happy to help in any way, Here is the link to schedule: www.americanslivinginpt.com
I would add the following: If you need a medical assistence and you are not prepared... no health insurance, no passport,... whatever, if you need assistance, just go to a public hospital emergency, you will be assisted and you don't have to pay, probably you will need to wait some hours, but that's the price you pay for a free health system.
@@bernardopiano7153 Thank your for you contribution!
Why is there a BRAZILIAN statue in a video about Portugal?
The Sanctuary of Christ the King statue in Lisbon is very similar to the the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. :)
@@americanslivinginportugal Thnank you for the correction.
Lack of knowledge Lola... And we are christians countrys 😉 Just welcome to see
This is so helpful. We have decided to jump ship and go as tourists as we know we will get our visa after our flight reservations. We have a home we purchased and want to move into. Happy to hear it worked out for you! We're hoping for the same. I also have US food-related health issues. I began to notice that whenever we were traveling in Europe, my health improved dramatically. The food is a big incentive for our move.
Very best of luck to you!
Thank you for your video Im from the Caribbean. I want to move to Portugal. I will visit first in the near future. I will keep in touch with you Crystal Blessings
Best of luck to you!
Até logo, not lago.😉
Yes, thank you for the correction!! 😊
You forgot about the Iberian bear that is also found in the north of Portugal and the red deer, roe deer and fallow deer 🙂
@tugarunnerlx Thanks for the great additions! Everyone feel free to add animals in the comments!
Came here after viewing your video about living there for 3 years. Very informative. We are still keeping an open mind about potentially retiring to Portugal or Spain.
Best of luck to you!
In the Lisbon region, there was a mild one 22 days ago. Here in Coimbra, where I have lived since December 21, nothing has happened. I started 2023 in Funchal to see the fireworks, and little tremors are usual but harmless. Azores is terrible.
Good luck to you!
Thanks for all the great advice. Your videos are very informative. Please stay healthy and happy.
Your video may have tipped the scales for me to spend my early retirement years in mainland Portugal v Madeira, thank you for your kind authenticity
1. MGEN: Known for its collective insurance approach, it generally provides more affordable health coverage. MGEN tends to focus on essential health services at lower costs but may have fewer options in terms of specialist care and international coverage. 2. Allianz: A global leader, Allianz offers more comprehensive plans, especially beneficial for expats and those looking for extensive private care. Allianz provides better coverage for things like maternity care, surgeries, and prosthetics, with the option for international coverage. It also has better customer service and a larger network of doctors and hospitals in Portugal . For a basic plan or cost-effective option, MGEN might be more suitable. However, for broader, more premium coverage, especially if you’re an expat, Allianz would be a better choice. It’s important to compare based on your specific health needs, family situation, and whether international coverage is necessary.
Thanks for a great video about Living in Portugal. I’m a South African living with my dog in Portugal from 9January 2020. Enjoy the positive experience.
Thank you for the kind message. We hope you are enjoying Portugal also!
Did you guys have to get a long term lease before going there?
Yes, it is required to apply for residency. Good luck to you!
@@gutisha also, if you talk to an immigration attorney, they can suggest ways to make that easier.
May I know what private health insurance you have? My husband and I are planning to retire in Porto Portugal, we’re older, concerned about insurance. Thank you
We have MGen Advance Care insurance. It is real great for us. Good luck!
