One man's commute is another man's adventure.
What is Adventure ...
For some it may be a trip to the shops or work, for others it could mean crossing rivers and deserts.
Is it a day trip? or is it endless weeks, months and years?
Every person has their own idea.
SqueakyBoots is how I see Adventure.

Suspension Sorted ...
About a year ago I had my DRZ400E suspension rebuilt.
Front and rear springs for my weight and the light adventure build I wanted, valving, oil...everything done.
At the time all clickers were set as a "mid-point"...
It suited for a while, but I felt it was missing something...
Watching other riders and bikes and how they handled, deciding on the type of riding I was going to do, I finally decided to make a few tweaks.
It's taken a few rides finally I think I have it sorted...

Last Ride 2024
Переглядів 12716 годин тому
2024 has been a great year, to finish off the year I took Doozer out for one last run. What a great morning, what a great ride, everything was going to plan (this is why I don't plan) Prior to leaving I noticed a couple of drops of oil under Doozer, (serviced yesterday) during the ride I noticed more oil dripping out...cutting the day short seemed like the best choice, I was still a fair way fr...
Year In Review (sort of)

In a comment by @gregstone7194 he asked if I would consider a "Year in Review" vlog. I hadn't really considered doing one. This 29/12/24 ride was going to be the "Year in Review" vlog that was requested. Not everything worked out as I planned (which is why I rarely plan) In the end it was still a great day out. Happy New Year 2025
2 Clicks Out ... A World Of Difference

After purchasing my DRZ400E I had the front and rear suspension rebuilt...springs, valving ,etc., all the things to make it adventure worthy. I have ridden it for many months with the settings the technician set. The rebuild result was brilliant, it changed the handling...over time I adapted my riding to suit but always felt it could be better. Today was the day to try to tune it...
Tracks Opened ... Seasonal Road Closures Finished
Переглядів 383День тому
Well October has come to an end, which can only mean one thing, seasonal road closures have finished and it's the Melbourne Cup long weekend. The weather was perfect for a ride to inspect some of the tracks that had been closed, seems I wasn't the only one who was keen to get out.
Where's the track?

Another day out on the DREZ400E exploring areas of Wombat/Blackwood/Lerderderg. About a week prior to this ride I found myself at a muddy crossing and decided to turn around. On this ride I wanted to find out what was on the other side of the crossing.
Drying Out?
Переглядів 66421 день тому
It's mid-October and Spring is slowly arriving, there have been a few warm days, today was another day out exploring on the DRZ400E. I revisited some familiar tracks in the Wombat/Blackwood/Lerderderg region to get an idea of how things may be drying out.
Slip'n'Fall ... A Wombat Saga

Another day out on the DRZ400E in the Blackwood/Wombat/Lerderderg region, although I rarely have a plan, most of my loose plans involve, not falling off, today my plan went out the window really quick...although there were no injuries, there was video...sometimes you have to show the good, the bad, the embarrassing.
Too many choices

Another great day out on the DRZ400E, what was going to be a simple ride out for coffee and to check a waypoint, ended up covering several tracks by default. There is a certain joy you get when an unplanned day turns into a great ride day. The tracks were a little greasy from rain two days prior to riding, but that didn't dampen the adventure.

All the best for 2025! So many tracks to check out! That last one looked interesting. Got yourself nice and stuck, been there, it's not fun!
Good ol Diggers track at the end. Really got to just go for it on that hill and hope you pick the right lines. I should do some experimenting with my suspension. When I first fitted it I wound it in a few turns and left it. I only adjust preload on the shock when I fit or remove luggage. It feels completely different to stock but could probably be tuned better.
@OzADVRider it's taken a few rides to get it to the point that I'm relatively happy with it. The suspension was built to carry somewhere around the 130/140kg,to perform when fully loaded, currently it's just carrying my 85/90kg, so it's always going to be firm...
Nice ride, keen to get out there again. Those rock steps looked nasty. Love it when the gates re-open!
The rock steps are Wild Dog Track, went by there 3 days ago, the gate is closed, which is a bit unusual...
You need a wingman, at least if you're going to go full hog or flat knacka through a wet bush.I've always rode Commando, hence the half cup of Joe. Neither the less might catch light of linking tracks. Cheers Squeak
@keepyourdatatoolsafe Cheers, pros and cons of riding solo...could have done with help digging the bike out of the mud in my "Year in review"
Definitely would have had my supervisor hat on, Aye, but you had it covered, Should be out for a morning tea this Saturday and to see how my jetting handles the heat, air-cooled bikes, 👍
lol yes try doing this with an africa twin, r1200, ktm 890 etc etc, the drz is king mate, have a great new year mate
Thanks, can't even imagine trying to do it with a bigger bike.
You need the Giant Loop lift straps. 1 set around the forks, one on the subframe. 2 seconds to install and makes life easier lifting the bike out of shite. $25 each, bargain.
Was thinking similar at the time, Kriega, Giant Loop, a winch, a 4wd, had many things go through my mind at the time.
@@SqueakyBoot Gotta tell you though. Loved the digging in the mud footage because it wasn't me. Have a great 25
Can’t say you didn’t give it a good crack in 24 , hope it’s all positive in 25 keep it up.
Thanks, 2025 will hopefully bring another stablemate for Doozer...Happy New Year
Happy New Year Squeaky!
Cheers.🎆🎆
click it up to where you had it and ride it
Cheers, all clicks done and it's sorted...
I hope not.
I realised you can keep playing in the mud, as long as you're happy to wash your own clothes (According to my wife)
You may need to speed up the rebound as well onThe front it can also stack up and make it harsh.
@PaulMckernan-l2n That has crossed my mind over the last few rides...pretty happy with it at the moment...I just have to remember to note any adjustments ... Two Clicks Out...is an easy one...The suspension/springs was set up to be carrying at least another 50kg...so currently riding it unladen I'm "over-sprung"
You're a true Testament of age before dirty but never worry I'll be there to lend a hand.
@@keepyourdatatoolsafe Cheers, video coming soon of how I got in such a muddy mess.
Did Ambler Lane when it first opened going the other way. Because of the bend before the steep bit I couldn't get enough speed and lost traction half way up. Had to get off and walk the bike up. The camp site was full so no run up from there. Hopefully the loose soil has packed down now. Went out yesterday but didn't get far cause of road closures due to the fire. Has dried out quite a bit and I could see the bottom of puddles and bogs which was interesting. Some real bike swallowers. Since its the end of the year would you consider doing a wrap up? Best track, best loop, prettiest spot, hardest track, etc. Not to worry if it's not your thing. Thanks for all the videos. All the best for the new year and maybe I'll see you out there.
@gregstone7194 Cheers, really appreciate the input...will consider the wrap up idea...Amblers was a bit crap when they first reopened, it was like bulldust which is not something we really see out this side of town...I'm hoping to get out tomorrow to have a look around after the fires, it's been pretty dry...was last out there about two weeks ago...did Diggers Track and Ratcliffe Track, they have some difficult sections, videos will be up in a couple of weeks...last ride was last weekend up in the High Country...there are some extremely difficult tracks out there...hope your Christmas was pleasant and Happy New Year...all going well the New Year may bring a companion for the DRZ400E
I rode XL yesterday. Pretty rutted on the descent to the river but very rideable, especially in the dry. Love the vids of tracks I call my locals too!
@lastdatabender cheers, it wasn't as bad before they graded it, seems the grading has loosened it up a bit...Amblers Lane has also been impacted by the grading...still a good ride...appreciate the comment and support
Hey mate...Amblers and XL are two of my favourite loops on the way to or from coffee. Great trails all through that amazing place..... Wild Dog track looked very gnarly.....like that mud. Great video.
@joeyjoejoshabbadu7963 it's a great loop, cuts out the dirt roads and the possibility of meeting a 4wd bullbar...hope to get out that way tomorrow.
nice mate-- what gearing are you running, is it ok on the road about 90 to 100?
Thanks for the watch and comment...running 15/44 (Adventure Gearing) good on the Road/Tracks/Trails ... not really good for single track and the really hard stuff (bit too tall)👍
@@SqueakyBoot yes ok, i had a 2017 drz with 15 47 and it screamed at 80, then went to 15 44 and it didnt seem much better, ive had 19 bikes and the drz still is a sweet ride, im thinking about getting another and trying 15 41, as i only do main fire roads etc and trails, no single track. you have some great videos mate and a great area for riding, cheers mate, take it safe, Merry Christmas
Looked like a great day for it! The new outdoor area looks good. Both options on Easter Monday Track are good fun.
I think we've been pretty fortunate with the weather, this day was a good one, both for the riding and for the outdoor coffee area to open ... Easter Monday track is a ripper...👍
Love the content, hit me up if u need a ride buddy out there. I’m intermediate on DR 650
Cheers ... been thinking about trying to put something together in the new year ... appreciate the watch and support.👍
Hows the fires going on around there mate? Hope all is well.
@@Sargnort the Bullengarook 🔥 fire is the closest to Wombat/Lerderderg, was going to ride yesterday, but thought better of it...the Grampians is still out of control...going to be a hot dry dangerous ☀️ summer
That mud looked nasty where you turned back. Keen to get out there for a ride, waiting on a radiator. Seems to have got lost in the mail. 😡
Cross it in an upcoming video...it was deep...you'd think it would be difficult to lose a radiator in the mail, but it is christmas, some poor kid will be wondering what Santa got him when he opens the parcel.😂
Never had a pair of waterproof boots and the under pants don't work either But the waterproofing spray around the stitching and liner and buckles is the best I've gotten Squeaky👍
Alpinestar say the Drystar lining is waterproof, and it's pretty good (for a while) unfortunately it's also pretty good once the boots filled up...
Such an awsome view up there and a great ride getting there.😊
Lol...I was yelling don't do it at 14.00...glad you turned around and I got to meet you ...the coffee there IS superb... as was the guided tour through the beautiful country out this way. I kept thinking of the prospectors hauling stuff. Endlessly working. And there we were power sliding through their tailings... blatant disrespect and disregard...if those old bastards could see us old bastards...they'd be a fussin...
A couple of weeks after this (video to come) I went through (at 14:00) it wasn't much drier...got a little stuck.... I think the old bastards would approve... Have to get back out there when you return... have done a couple of good tracks in the last couple of weeks (videos to follow)👍👍
I went to do XL track 2 weeks ago and chickened out i must of entered the end and within 20 seconds I had the huge rocky hill to contend with and not knowing what the end was like I backed out. Klr650 might not be the bike of choice 🤣
@@KDSADV650 the steepest part of XL Track is closest to the O'Brien's Croosing road...between Chettle Road and Mill Road it's mostly flat...there are plenty of rides in this area to test the capability of the KLR and to build up skill and confidence...plenty of rides to just get out and enjoy the bush...some of the best days are about relaxing and enjoying the ride.
Alpinestars have never been waterproof, ever
I think for memory I put about 10 or 15 mm at the bottom and 20 or 25 at the top, bit of 20mm pvc painted black. It creates clean air at the back of the screen which seems to to help quiet a bit.
I have never seen XL track without the bog holes full, even at the end of summer. Looking at your screen try the spacer trick, it does reduce bufferting and keeps away a bit Moore from your face.
Was only just thinking about the screen today, when I was returning from the high country...have seen a few with the spacers, may give it a go...will be interesting to see it fully dry...41 tomorrow, maybe that will help.
Can confirm they let water in and retain it inside. They are super comfy though
Love my Tech 7's...fit like a glove from the day I got them...may still need to get a pair of "non drystar" for summer...wet feet in 36 degrees wasn't much fun
Those small sticks can really catch you out! Amazing how dry the last track was compared to the rest.
@@OzADVRider I hate those diagonal sticks wet or dry...it amazes me how different one side of Wombat can be compared to the other regarding weather.
Yep , missed the chance to catch up with , i will know your bike next we cross paths. Cheers.
Do you adjust your tyre pressure when you get to the bush?
@@dalewyatt1321 no, I stick with road pressures front and rear...21psi...most of the time it works, and no pinch flats.
Some good demonstrations of slippery wet sticks (or small logs) ( especially with some bark still in them). Surely you have saved some other people from some bruises - good man! 😊
@@rond5323 just trying to do my best for the dirt riding community, many people learn best via demonstration.😃👍
@@SqueakyBoot I run 20 on the road but drop down to 12 in the dirt.
Can’t say you don’t give it a crack, coffee time I think😊
Always coffee time...hard to believe how different the weather is from one side of the range to the other, and how one side is so slippery and the other bone dry...this is why it's great riding out Wombat/Blackwood/Lerderderg.☕👍
Those little branches use to get me all the time. 3 of us were out there today, the 08,12,24. We thought we might have past you today, if it was you I didn't realise at the time or I would have stopped.
@@bazz6670 recognised the bikes as you came by, thought about doing a "U Turn" to say g'day but was heading home, not sure I would have caught up before you got to the end of Amblers lane.
@@SqueakyBoot Yea when we got to the end Andy said it looked like your bike, i also thought about turning back. we will have to catch up with you soon if you like.
Awesome ride, even with the commando rolls.
Yes we thought we recognised the Bike. Should have pulled up for a chat. Next time.
Considered turning around and chasing you down but thought that might be a bit weird...
Yep. Barry, Matt and Andy. I had to miss today's ride unfortunately, in the process of moving. I did ride 1.5k's from old house to new one.
1.5ks, at least you got out.
Pleasant ride again; thanks for taking us a long.
@@rond5323 Cheers, glad you enjoyed it, was a great day out.. appreciate your support
Nice ride! Big tree track is good fun. There's a reason I take coffee and enjoy it in the bush. Cafe's are always too cramped and noisy for me.
Was a good ride, every day out is a good day out...now that I have to ride on the weekend, it's generally busier at the coffee shop, but it's now just become part of my ride routine...I still like your idea of taking the "coffee fixings" to make your own.👍☕
I normally make myself a top notch coffee at home before I leave on ride. But I'll try Squeaks Post Office coffee one of these days.
@@julius8966 hopefully the coffee won't disappoint, I'd feel bad if you left your brew at home...riding is always better with a coffee break
I would love to see how wet it is now after all the rain this week, probably worse than a month ago. Stay upright mate😊
Was out today, it's pretty wet in places, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, saying that 2 weeks ago it was all dry and dusty.
I run and ride out here and some great tracks and scenery. Try paradise track but recommend to start at the south end bottom and ride up north way. Especially if not confident down. One rocky face climb but great track
Cheers, I think I may have done Paradise Track in the past, prior to my UA-cam, but will check it out again and video the ride, I'm sure some of the viewers would be interested in it...👍👍
Big day out mate, you must have been pretty drained after that effort.I was up in that area last Xmas, booked a week at Eildon and took my little bike,XT250 and explored.I gave Mt Terrible a miss, didn't know there were easier options.I did ride around Mt Torbreck, some great tracks in Royston State Forest which is another option from either the Jameison direction or any of the tracks coming off the Eildon Jameison rd.Thanks for sharing, great video.
@@stevemason7790 Towards the end of the day it was getting tiring, but the moment you find another track, you find more energy, Like many of us, when you do what you love, it's easy to push through and keep going...appreciate the watch and comment...Cheers
I agree. That was one of the best spots ever!
@@joeyjoejoshabbadu7963 Yeah, the places you come across while playing in the mud.
Are you using Gaia GPS? I find it really useful to plan tracks and see where things go before I go.
I use DMD2 on my phone, mainly for the way the tracks are color coded...at a glance I can see what type of track it may be...to be honest I don't use it for planning or riding, it's just there because it's my phone, occasionally I will use it to mark a waypoint, so I can refer to it when I edit the videos...I don't plan my rides, I just ride and see how things go...this is at times a good and bad approach...when I get home I use three different mapping apps, so I can put GPS locations in my videos...this way it allows the viewers the opportunity to plan their own ride, knowing what/where or how difficult it may be... hope that helps.👍
Smart move, I just don’t bother with that stuff anymore, I prefer to enjoy the whole day and get home in one piece.
Riding by myself I occasionally need to be "a little wiser", it's a struggle at times...I sometimes forget I'm aging.
A lot worse places to get stuck.
Definitely, had it been a little warmer I would have taken a swim...it's these moments of exploring that I love.👍
Good choice turning back on that first hill. looked steep. Beautiful spot you found. I tend to keep the location of places like that to myself, but will take people there on a ride.
The first two hills were hard enough to walk, wasn't keen to try to ride them...in a future video I find the other side of the second hill...it's one way in and one way out...the swimming hole /water fall spot was amazing, glad I decided to walk the track, otherwise I would never have found it...
Great video. Thanks for listing the tracks 👌
Cheers, hope it helps...always good to be able to get your bearings and plan a day out.👍
I wanted to go for ride today (Saturday). But 34 deg? Maybe not.
No, maybe not, my excuse today was having a new front tyre fitted but tomorrow should be a goer.👍
Nasty looking clay. Hopefully dries out soon.
@@OzADVRider it's drying out,as you're aware, it can get slick out there.
Momentum is your friend haha. I thought at one stage there was going to be "Yet ANOTHER week later"
@@dalewyatt1321 yeah, should have just pinned it and hung on...still doubt I'd have gotten up...have had a few moments with that red/yellow clay out there, where you think camping out until it dries is the best option.
I went out there last week and could not believe how wet the red stuff is, I thought it would have been dryer by now. Oh and I had a nice coffee at Blackwood.
Slowly drying out in most areas...the red clay can be tricky...all worth it for a ride and coffee...☕👍
I tried this one on Monday! Loved it!
Amblers Lane is great, was better prior to the grading over winter, but it will pack down...nice hills and river crossing make it fun
