Krone Comprima. Baling silage without net. "Baletite" film for perfect silage. New Zealand 2010.

Roundbale silage revolution. NO MORE BALE NET. Baling grass and lucerne silage with Baletite plastic film. Bale net is now obsolete, and so is 3D wrapping. Baletite gives 10% denser bales than net. Bales only require 4 layers of prestretch film for perfect silage quality. If wrap becomes punctured there is virtually no deterioration of the silage as air can not affect more than the size of the ...

Krone Comprima baling silage and hay in New Zealand
Hi Robert I’m curious, why do krone not put their film binding system into the Fortima model of balers? Are you aware of a kit to convert a Fortima to film binding? Regards Joshua Waikato NZ
Very nice video sir. I hope after five years you will see the comment. I bought a new comprima plus on 2021, cv 150 xc. It has the choice of bale with net and film. I tried first year to make silage with film instead of net but i was all the time inside the baler cause couldnt bale correct. It has not like your system, that gets the film in the middle before cuts it, its cutting like the net the hole surface. The problem is tat when it goes inside the chamber instead of grabbed by the bale it goes whether to the net feed roller or down to the rotor and becomes a mess. Some bales goes correct but more often doesn’t work correct. I tried all the possible settings and different film brands but nothing change. Any solutions? Greetings from Greece. Kostas
Hello Kostas, The only thing you can do is to continue taking crop, a little, as the film starts to feed. This can prevent it going to the cutting rotor, and the next two rollers, but unfortunately not the first roller the film contacts. The gathering of the film to a kind of rope is really the only solution. Krone have just released their own gathering system however it is not able to gather to less than about 350mm. I have no idea how well it works yet. I think you likely have the three wide scrapers attached to the main scraper? The build up of crop at these scrapers often forces the film to be trapped and then go around the first roller. Taking crop with the film does not help in this instance. My system is now approaching 50,000 film bales.
@@RobertFolkerts First of all thank you for your reply Robert. I tried the all. Nothing worked. Do you know where can i find krones new system? It drove me crazy, 100k baler and couldnt bale properly. Also if you have an email to send you some pictures? It has a weird system but it works like working with net by changing a few settings.
@@agroGiann I don't understand all of your last comment. randvfolkerts@gmail.com I think Krone dealers should have information re the new binding system. It can be retrofitted to your machine I think, but likely costly. I will get opportunity to observe their new system working in the coming season. Will be interesting. I suspect still some difficulty with wet crop, but we shall see.
When I have you email I should be able to forward the Krone bulletin re their new system.
Very interested in the film instead of net. Do you find they stand up to being moved to the wrapper OK?
Hi Jamie, That video I made in 2009. I used that baler till 2017 when I made the new film system on the CF 155. As far as a stand alone baler and film goes, one needs to be careful, if a tear starts, sometimes it doesn't stop till it goes right across the bale. Rubbish like sticks and rocks just under the binding can also generate tears. Having said that, I did persevere and made more than 70,000 bales with film using that v150 machine. One learned to watch for the likely problems, a couple of straps of tape would be enough to hold a tearing bale. Now with the combi, those stresses are no longer there. I did however use the 13 micron Baletite as that was all there was then. The 16 micron now available as well, is much more forgiving
@@RobertFolkerts I have a 2015 comprima v150. It would be good if we could use film instead. But we tube wrap the bales so they are all to move to the wrapper
Hi Robert, just wondering have you any photos of the set up for the film? We use the standard film system but as you know it’s a nightmare
Hello Daniel, what particular aspects would you like to see? If you can message me your email address I can send pictures.
Heya mate I would love to find out more about this film system you have developed if possible.. we run 2 krone comprima v150xc xtreme stand alone balers and are very interested in add the film binding system to them if possible.. is there a way I could contact you to maybe come and chat to you about how we would go about doing that? Thanks a heap and I look forward to your reply 🙂👍

Dont want to wrap 200 bales.... Takes forever with this slow setup🤣🤣 Buy a Mchale 991 Highspeed or a Orbital 🤦♂️ or the Krone.... then you are good to go.....
Ah huh, You again. Actually haven't used that function since 2008. In 2009 I started using batetite film on film. I have well over 110,000 film on film bales now. Not too bad for home made mods to run film aye! 40,000 now with my Revolution film system in the CF155XC.

Hello Robert, do you think there is a way to retrofit this film binding to a Krone combipack1250 from 2007? thanks
I think the binding system in the combipack is much to different to copy the system I made for my Comprima. However I am aware of people binding with film in your type of machine. Not with a gathering system though, which is essential to attain the desired reliability, especially in wetter conditions.
@@RobertFolkerts So is there a possibility to retrofit the film binding? could you please give me more information about this? I would be very grateful
@@cuzimflo8071 I think your machine has a driven roller system to feed netting, Krone calls this an active system. Comprima machines using film utilize what Krone calls a passive system. It is very different. The passive system is the basis for my "Revolution" gathering system. As far as I know the people using film with your style of system have made whatever modifications to run film in their machines, themselves.

Hi robert thanks for the videos. Do you have any tips for getting the net to spread on the standard comprima? It seems to pull in when it starts and then struggles to spread out properly sometimes. Ive tried various settings on the net brakes. This is for netwrap not film thanks.
Hi Graham, I haven't used much net for 11 years now. However, does your machine have one, or two spiral spreaders for the net? Two seems to work better than the set up that has one roller and one bent bar for the net to run on. Where the net comes off the roll and travels up, and then down to the compensating mechanism, before going up to the spreaders and the feed plate, there are usually two options. To run the net over rollers, or run it over the adjacent staionary tubes. I always found much better spreading of net by running it over both the stationary tubes. There is more friction involved which helps the net spread and keeps it there. One thing to watch for though, when running net over the stationary tubes, the paint will wear off and after a period of sitting idle, rust will form and can cause the net to tear on startup. Like beginning the next season. Just need to get in with a bit of sand paper and take the rust off and good to go. There is another thing, I used to run the net with the roll direction reversed. To do this you must reverse the grippers on the brake drum which secure the roll against the brake. The reason is the net then does a full 180° over the top tube. It all helps keep the net wide and prevent it snaking in when the brake is free on start of net cycle.
@@RobertFolkerts It just has one bar with the spiral spreaders and one bent bar. I do run it over the stationery tube at the bottom. I will try and run it with the roll direction reversed, i know what you mean about the gripper things. Ive also got some genuine krone netwrap coming that i hope will help. The problem seems to be it pulls in to the centre at the start then needs about 3 net turns to spread out properly. Another thing how many bales are you finding the main belts last for now? Krone guarantee 3 years or 30000 bales. Ive heard theyve been improved but they look a big job to change if they go. Thanks for your help and advice.
@@grahambelfield2332 Hi Graham. Another thing you should check, that the cable which pulls the brake off is adjusted to only just free the brake on start. If it is too free and for too long, it will easily produce the net action as you describe. You can try different springs on the cable end to give desired action. I modified my system for film. I welded two brake pads to double the length. Then changed the mounting bolts so they are welded center of the two pads. Then I fitted a small compression spring to push one pad always against the brake drum when the cable pulls the brake free. This produced a small controlled drag. It's purpose is to stop the film roll over turning on start and fouling the film. This also helps with net as the roll is never then completely free to run away. Perhaps if you give me your email I can send you pictures. Which machine do you have. F or V? Rear belts on V machines are lasting typically around 12,000 bales. The front belt a bit longer. The F belts are typically lasting between 20,000 to 25,000. In NZ there have been a large number of belts replaced under warranty as a machine might do 10- 15 thousand bales in a season so not many get to three years with less than 30,000. The problem has always been the "join", where there are four layers of fabric weave spanning a bit more than the space between two slats. It is too thick to take the constant bending. The latest style of belt has the fabric protruding about 25mm either side of one slat, so no longer the thick stiff section. Yet to see if this is the solution but the failure was always at the ends of the thick section. The rest of the belt could have gone on indefinitely. I always put a different colour paint on the bars adjacent to the join to easily identify the location to keep a check on deterioration. It starts essentially from the moment the machine begins work and slowly develops cracks in the rubber and then the fabric layers fail progressively.
One other thing Graham. Check the net is cutting neatly. If the cut is ragged the net can get pulled by the longest bit first. This can cause the net to be dragged to that area rather than a more even spread of connection to the bale. I renewed the knife on occasions with my test baler to always keep the cleanest cut for this reason. Krone was of course providing parts so no cost to me. But as the knife dulled it did make a difference. Watch it though. Even when they don't cut the net so good they will still cut you finger easily. If this sounds pedantic, bear in mind I did 120,000 bales with that machine over ten years. 70,000 with film. You can work out how often I changed belts from that!!
Graham I should mention, early on I gave up on trying to get the net to work properly with the baler in standard configuration. Very soon I had three spiral rollers set up at the top of the feed plate to provide a more tortuous path for the net to keep it under control. The film ran over just one roller. In the early days I put a lot of effort into getting the net to perform how I wanted it. Then a lot of effort to get film to work well.
What is this world coming to
??????
Hello. I’m very curious about the extra film roll and pre-stretcher. Is the pre-stretcher driven? How does the cutting work? Is it something that that you bought or have you made it yourself?
Hello. The whole system I built myself. [ Including the actual machine ] I used the extra wrap feature in 2007 and 2008 before I modified the baler to use film in place of net. The unit is moved hydraulically in and out. The stretcher is not powered, same as balewrapper stretchers. 70% stretch. The cutting is by three small blades that operate like windscreen wipers and driven by a wiper motor. The idea is to make three holes in the film and let the tension tear the film off, leaving the tail long enough to be caught by the bale at next introduction. The system is controlled by a small PLC and automatically followed the wrap cycle. It worked really well . Prevented mould from small holes like birds or cat claws by pressing film tight on bale so air did not enter from holes. Did have to use a bit of spray on glue to prevent tail unravelling. Operator normally applied glue to film just before cut. My new CF155XC [ ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=9LDVt8-nAAs ] has made the whole wrapper machine redundant. Was working from 1993 till 2016.
RobertFolkerts Thanks, for the info. My goal is to do something like that on my McHale 998. But I would like to apply the extra stretch film at the same time as the regular wrapping process. I will get a cross-wrap, save som stretch film and hopefully get more capacity. Do you have any good input? Thanks,
By applying after wrapping I was able to get the film to start automatically because it would cling to the prior wrap. Also in my case the mechanism would have clashed with the wrapper arms. You will need to be quite creative to produce a system which will introduce the film and ensure it goes with the bale every time and not follow the wrapper rollers. Also, does your bale do enough rotations to make it worthwhile? And would you use a wider film or two rolls side by side to cover the length of the bale. I guess it's squares?
RobertFolkerts My idea is to apply the film between the wrapper rollers. One film roll applied in each pair of rollers. I could mount the pre-stretcher outside the main frame and let the film in towards the bale above the tires. And here is where the tricky part comes. To introduce it to the bale. The bale rotates at least two hole turns so that would be enough I think.
tobajas85 That will be the tricky part for sure! I wish you well.
Do you sell this as a kit for krone balers?
Hi Arnold, I'm sorry, at this point I am not planning to build kits. I really enjoy this development work, to perfect a machine, but I do not enjoy making copies of what I have produced. I don't like repetition like that. Perhaps it will not be too long and Krone themselves will see the need for something like this.
RobertFolkerts I run a cv 150 and would like to run film, but am told the krone kit is not reliable. Thanks for the reply. You have a brilliant mind!
Thank you Arnold.
Arnold Streicher it’s not the most reliable film kit. We have it on a v150xc xtreame, works good in good conditions but if u get into wetter silage or dry silage it will wrap around the first roller in the chamber. And for us in Australia they don’t stock film... costs us an arm and a leg to get it
Me encanto y estoy sorprendido los felicito de de Texas
Best Baler on the Market..... Made in Germany! And yes it will also work with the original Krone Film Kit.... not only with your "Kit" We here in Germany and Austria use lot of this Krone Film System.... works perfect and also in every Condition.... But we bale not in the Rain because it makes no sense, nobosy bale when its raining.... we need good quality :-)
Funny how the Krone System is working in Austria perfectly, but in the Southern Hemisphere it works very poorly. And in Scandinavia, and in UK. I didn't go to the trouble of building this system because I am stupid or only bale in the rain. Best baler on the market? It is ok.
RobertFolkerts Why you buy a Krone Baler 🤔🤔🤔?? Is this not the 2nd Baler from Krone you bought?? Why you dont buy a McHale or something like that when its not good enough for you?? McHale has from their point the best Film Binding... But i can also give you Tip.... test our Baler from Austria a Göweil F combi Baler 🤙😁 We Know also how to build Balers ... also for your lousy field Conditions in Australia
Ohhhh I forgot. You can also look at the new Balers from Pöttinger Impress 🤗👍 Is there no Manufacter in Australia? That you have to buy such expensive Machinery from us?
So, you show yourself as silly. Did you not know, in 2005 Krone asked me to help solve problems with the new Comprima machines. They gave me three to work with. The third one being the V150XC which you think I bought. I spent five years finding solutions to the various problems the machines had. Many of my solutions are in the current machines, but not all. I was as well the first to operate a Comprima with film beginning in 2009. I have done more than 80,000 bales with film. It is interesting the Go Weil machines experience difficulty here with short damp crop. Factory is trying to find solutions. Perhaps you can help them out!
RobertFolkerts Ok i have to ask Krone in Spelle about you... but no Krone Baler has your Pickup System or your Film System but i will find out.... I not that far away from Krone... Is Robert Folkers your real name ?? 😁😁 And thats your diary Farm in New Zealand? I have to ask Krone because here the System looks nothing like yours in no way

Is there a retrofit kit you can buy from anywhere that can be fitted to a fusion 1 or fusion 2 baler or fitted to any baler really .
ben01269 I think Krone might be the only one able to be retrofitted, when they have theirs finalized. There will never be a "universal " type kit. There are too many factors specific to each type of machine.
how did you do the baletite for your krone
ben01269 Too complicated to outline the specifics of it here. Suffice to say a combination of thinking and engineering. It was easy to get the system functioning initially, but it took some years and experience in differing conditions to get the system to the 100% reliable status I have managed to achieve.
Great idea - can't get Baletite here in the States. Am very interested in your adjustments. How can I reach you? Got some questions.

Hello We have also a comprima. Can you give me more Information about your System? Many thanks
Where abouts are you?
Hello. i come from Switzerland. We have customer, they will the bale with blastic and not with net.
Do you have modifications from Krone to operate with film, or maybe you have the newer Xtreme model? As you can see, I modified my machine four years ago, and it is excellent. I have no experience with Krone's own system which they are still working on, although I have been told it is ok in dry crops, but not so good in moist ones. If your machine is unmodified I suggest you begin with a film kit from Krone. Some aspects of my system are quite different compared to the factories set up and require substantial engineering. If you got the Krone system installed, you should get backup help from them??
Hello. Yes, we have a system from krone, but it work not perfect. When its dry, then its ok. But when its wet, then rolls the plastic around it. The problemroll is the roll with the scraber on the top of the rotor. What have you four a solution?
Krumi Krummi Did you receive the message I sent to your You Tube account?
Stunning observation you make.
Haha, this is old. Orkel whas first out with thar!
I didn't see the Fusion at the fieldays, couple months back we made the decision to go with the Comprima over the Fusion due to having run Krone balers before, stuck with what has worked before, since then haven't looked at the Fusion seen as I have to get my head around the combi having only run balers alone prior to this season. I'll look you up and be in contact in the near future. Cheers
Yes, by all means. Sounds like McHale have sold a few here with film tying. There was one on display at the field days, lives at Parawera. Can Krone supply you a working kit? You can find us in the phone book Te Awamutu section. Look forward to it.
Yup, Roto-o-rangi to be precise, Your practically just down the road, would you mind having a catch up at some point to talk about this? Understandable if you would prefer to keep some cards close to your chest but it would be greatly appreciated. Ive heard that McHale have been trying to push this with their new fusion3's but searching on the net hasn't thrown up a lot about it
Do you mean Cambridge in NZ. I am up on Mt Pirongia 30km south of Hamilton.
The only negative thing I can see is having to cart the plastic around with me rather then cut it off the bale on the loader while at the stack. We have a new Krone Comprima combi for this coming season and ive been looking into this as an option, I am in Cambridge and that I know of I haven't seen any local boys using it. Where are you located Robert?
Yes they are. However the bale in the video is quite dry silage. They don't normally disinegrate quite so readily. I only have two customers who prefer unchopped silage.
are the bales double-chopped? if so would they collapse as easily if they were not?
Hello Aaron, I am also a farmer/contractor. Benefits of film outweigh anything you might percieve as a difficulty. My customers with your type scenario soon figure a way that works for them. None of them want to see net ever again. Downtime?? There might be a few times in a thousand bales the film goes to the wrong place. A camera can see the film on the bale in the Comprima [modified] so I don't get caught with a naked bale. 3 years with 13 micron film. I try some 20 micron this year.
As a farmer and an Ag contractor I try to look at things in the industry from both angles, for example what might be great while driving the baler may not be the best thing when the time comes to feed the bale out. There seem to be a lot of pro's to the film tying but for me personally I cut the plastic off at the stack then take the bale away to feed out with the net wrap still holding the bale. How much downtime do you get with film not always doing what its supposed to?
Hello I just bought a v180 comprima xc and I would use Baletite. Is that you give or sell information Krone has to change anything. thank you
Thank you for your comment.
Nice video, i like the speed with you are working :D
It is not an extra drive belt, it is extra drives to the belts. That is more rollers are driven which previously were idler rollers. As well I have 315mm dia. drive rollers for the rear belt with an additional idler set up to maintain a constant wrap angle of the belt to prevent slippage. Hydraulic tensioning of front belts, not springs.Changes to the pickup increased bale density significantly and machine would slip easily as soon as it saw a bit of moisture. Also use Baletite film, no net
What differences are there between the standard machine and yours? Were does the extra drive belt go?
Hello, not just "any usual net system". The Comprima system is rather unique and it is this system only that I am concerned with. The Baletite will function in the original Comprima system to some degree, but there are some changes which I made to produce a setup which functions in all parameters and conditions. The neccessary changes I made do alter some aspects of the system but that does not preclude the ability to alternate between plastic and net.
so really there is no mechanical changes made to the baler for this to work, in other words you dont need to have different blades, rollers and such compared to any usual net system, of course with adjustments to tying itself suit plastic of course.
Hello there, the film is costing roughly three times the cost of net, but this is compensated for by the reduced cost of the subsequent wrapping. There is no need for more than four layers of stretchfilm, in fact I use four layers of prestretch.
