Stardom Quest Episode 204 - Marigold Summer Destiny Review, Saori Anou Double Champion & More
1:02:45 I was thinking that same thing like “damn she wrestles just like sareee” 😭😭
Winner of Young Actwres Cup gets a title match of their choosing.
very very good insight on who could win the Goddess Tag League, based on setting up potential future matchups namely SLK going after Natsupoi's Wonder Belt, I personally think WingGori wins it all and ultimately dethrones Thekla and Momo, and since Rina and Azuza actually beat the champs in the tournament, it potentially sets up a match pitting 'sister vs sister' and as offbeat as it may sound, Rina could beat Hanan thereby holding 2 sets of tag belts
Happy Thanksgiving to you both, very very thankful that I discovered y'all's podcast this year with all your insight on Joshi, thereby giving me more context and understanding (like a completely different galaxy than Western-based wrestling) 🙏🏼👏🏼🫀💯👍🏼, 🫶🏼 for Joshi
very very good and helpful insight on Momo Watanabe as it relates to Mayu (and I had no idea Utami was weaved in there too, herself against Iwatani and being Momo's 'right hand' in Queen's Quest), as I watched their match I wondered why Momo's gear was 'black challenged' and wasn't her usual 'heel self' if Mayu is in fact 'on her way out' and depending on how Taro Okada feels about Watanabe long-term, she may be one that dethrones Iwatani for the IWGP as opposed to AZM (who I really want to be the 'heiress apparent'), for long-term storytelling purposes
It is in EDOGAWA about 20 km from Tokyo.
very very refreshing having Velkej on this week, a different perspective and vibe to Dylan, and maybe sometime all 3 of you can be on the same episode, that would be 'must listen Joshi talk' I believe Saya Kamitani would a rare xception to having a 'heel Red Belt champion, setting aside her 'Phenex Queen 'mannerisms' she's still a main event quality in-ring performer and imo we haven't seen the 'best' outta Saya......yet Thekla is a breath of fresh air within Stardom, especially her 'kill the idols' agenda, and Natsupoi is the epitome of that, and their shared history in DDM adds to that rivalry, although I think she has to step up in order to be taken seriously as a singles championship contender, but definitely more than functional within a heel unit
thanks, Dylan, for coming on solo, it's challenging doing a podcast without someone else to go back and forth with, opinions aligned or not, this is one my sources for all the goings-on in Stardom and Marigold 🙏🏼💯👏🏼👍🏼
I wish i knew you were doing this, i have the hvs of this that i transfered to dvd.
I think AZM will ultimately be the Joshi that dethrones Mayu for the IWGP, she is very over in America and I believe the post-Iwatani title reign plans will have that belt be defended more outside of Japan
I saw AZM and Mina Live on Sunday at Royal Quest and the crowd were the most into them by far during the tag match. AZM is great Live
It was a decent season of BB26. I liked Chelsea early in the season, but maaaan that's one jealous lil' chick. Plus the house was filled with recruits, you could tell just by that idiot who took her to the final 2. The last 5 weeks you see she was getting a winners edit from production. ...oh Mckenzie you big delusional dummy. I was rooting for Cam & the Dawgs at the Crib
I was all about Marigold at the very beginning (in hindsight it might've been cuz Stardom wasn't very watchable at the time), Iyo showing up to face Utami in July got me xcited, but then Stardom caught fire (imo) when Saya Kamitani transformed into Phenex Queen and NEO Genesis was formed and if wasn't for you guys talking up Marigold I woulda completely forgotten about them I agree that Mayu jumping over next year would be a 'game-changer', and I think others from Stardom will come too, the ones that don't feel like they'd thrive long-term in Stardom (I believe a bunch of them took a 'wait and see' mentality about how Joshi in general would play out this year going into next) and I think the wildcard in all in this is Mina Shirakawa: speaks above average English and already spends alotta time in America, I'd love to see her tangle with some of the WWE/NXT women and Marigold is seemingly the pipeline for that, if not outright signing with WWE
I'm expecting a Mina AllElite graphic come Wrestle Dynasty sadly
FYI: Warabi is a city in Saitama Prefecture. Ice Ribbon is based in Warabi. Their arena is called Warabi Dojo.
A lion
I'm hanging out for the next review.. So much to appreciate!
I would be all for a mask vs hair match with SLK and Hazuki, who would get her head shaved 'Giulia-style', and ultimately propel her to one of the singles titles and closer to 'Ace-status', presumably in a post-Mayu Stardom early next year
Could work if they can set it up properly
Mixed tags on STARDOM shows would be alright, I don't wanna see NJPW men's matches on STARDOM shows at all though. They definitely need to make an effort to showcase Stardom talent on NJPW shows more. IWGP Women's title defences and tag matches on more NJPW shows would be great.
I'm with you id rather they stay away but I could probably handle the odd mixed tag
I think it's definitely time for Rina to drop the Future to Miyu and ascend to a higher level in Stardom creatively and fresh opponents, she already beat her sister's record for successful title defenses, nothing left to accomplish at this level
I really liked Saori v Saya too during those trios, hopefully they could do it again 1 on 1 for a title in the near future, I don't recall those 2 ever having a singles match in my 2 years of watching Stardom 🤞🏼
Talking about manami from western fans of joshi especially reiwa era fans is so funny and clueless at the same time ,they have seen maybe 20% of her matches actually especially in zenzo and only on tape never live and they can have a complete formulated opinion of her in ring real ability and that she is not that great. DO you people even know she had about 1900 matches in zenzo alone and over 2700 total..How many have you actually seen even on tape i wonder.
Just my opinion in NO WAY Saya Kamitani compares to Manami toyota. Saya Kamitani has had some good matches but NO epic all timers. Not even remotely close.
I will say if Akira Hokuto didn't have those injuries there's a good chance I will have her ahead of Manami toyota. I mean as is she's close and if someone has her above Manami I'm fine with That.
For me, IMO Manami toyota is at the top, followed closely, Akira Hokuto, then it gets really, really tough because between the 80's and 90's there were numerous excellent women talents I. JOSHI. AND like I said I have to try to see more 80's stuff. But from what I've seen, the 90s is the best. And some of the modern Joshi would be somewhere on the list but I don't know where since it's got 80's and 90's talents.
We'll. The 90s AJW was the peak of women's wrestling, IMHO. And I know others who have seen the matches feel the same way. Dave meltzer gave Utami vs Syuri a 5.5. I actually wouldn't go that high because for me there were a number of matches from the AJW 90's Era that were better. And could have been some from the 80's ( which I have to see more of).
the more I see Hanako lately the more I'm liking her in-ring presence and not feeling out of place amongst higher level talent, case in point yesterday in Hachinohe, she was in a trios against NEO Genesis and flowed really well with AZM and Mei and not really needed to be carried call me crazy or jumping the gun but I think she's better than a Future or New Blood tag run, not the Red yet or even the White but definitely an Artist or Goddess run, and maybe more dates in America, perhaps tagging along with Mina whenever she's stateside
Dylan's attribution is Mark Twain, Comparison is the Death of Joy. And given the tribalism in wrestling, Twain is prescient
I definitely like Hanako's presentation fresh off her US 'mini-xcursion', it looks like she's xuding more confidence and charisma, perhaps the one to take down Rina if not Hina
She's definitely getting either the tag belts or the future belt. She's had a seriously needed upgrade for sure
No thanks for me on the NXT stuff. WWE will just demand their talent win every match.
I don't think they mind on the women they keep sending some to put over Grace so I could see them playing ball with Marigold
@alexrichards7446 , believe you are talking about NXT sending over women to put over Grace?
@@connerhuston2613 yep, they've fed her a few of the nxt folks already
@alexrichards7446 , Yeah, I looked at the names WWE fed to her. Not exactly mid level er top females so I see what they're doing. I see she lost to Their current champion Roxanne. Besides Jordynne is most likely headed to NXT/WWE in January/early next year anyway.
I've also noticed some American wrestlers don't look as good in Japan as they do in America. As well as Japan/Joshi talent don't look good or as good in America as they do in Japan.
Yeah, that Okada seems to not care about wrestlers looking weak. SMH it's NOT good IMO I wouldn't have Mina beat certain tier wrestlers. Some yes but other higher tier no way.
maybe not a great overall 5⭐️ for AZM but she did beat Mayu and 'conventional wisdom' (as opposed to Taro's booking lol) says she's got a title shot at the IWGP down the line (2nd time and I don't think anyone else had beyond 1 shot) I think H.A.T.E was a vehicle for Saya to transform into Phenex Queen, and with the right booking could stand on her own long-term, I always likened this to when Surfer Sting transformed into the Crow as a result of the nWo, and over 20 years later remained in that persona long after the nWo ceased to xist, I like this version of Saya better, at the very least from a presentation standpoint
Yeah I hesitate to agree with people who think everything was pointless because the Tora win and everything else served as a platform for the Kamitani transformation which is looking like a home run gamble so far
On the Subject of Final Boss themes a la Miracle Passion (Nanae) and Involve All (Kagetsu). I'm pretty confident in saying Crusade (Utami) is on that level. Legitimately I think her entrance theme got me into the company
Alex says "I told you so" on Avid Rival
Unless I missed it , too bad we never got a best friends vs Thunder rock (io shirai/Mayu iwatani ) tag match. That would have been wild .
Yeah, Scott, i totally agree that Kana vs. Arisa Nakajima match was brutal/ stiffThey beat each other up for nearly 30 minutes.
Yeah , that io shirai vs Arisa Nakajima match was very good IMO it didn't quite reach the level of the Kana match. Nonetheless, it was very good Too bad they only had 1 match.
Good podcast, Thanks
Yeah, i agree, Dylan giving Bozilla a title is risky. Unfortunately, the Joshi scene can't keep nice things at times.
I thought i heard/read somewhere that 2 more women besides Bozilla were trained by that Alpha female? And they were going to make their debut at some point. I think one was really athletic. Could be just rumors though.
Alpha Female is training a lot iirc and has her own promotion. Not sure she'll be able to replicate Bozilla though since she trained in Canada too
Rossy, Utami did her duty against Io it is time to make her great again. Don't prioritise MIRAI over Utami Hat man.
twice in 1 week, 🙏🏼👍🏼✌🏽, truth be told, this episode was just a reminder that 🌼 is running a round-robin tournament too, my undivided attention is still on the 5⭐️ til the dust settles tomorrow hopefully as the Dream⭐️ progresses and listening to your reviews and insights I will get enthused about it (challenging cuz I am not as familiar with these Joshi therefore not as invested.....yet, it took me months to get more invested when I first started watching Stardom)
The talent in Marigold will win your heart 😅 they're too beast not to
the only issue I had with the birth of Phenex Queen was that she didn't capture the Red as a coinciding move, and even worse (at that moment) was Natsuko taking it and putting 'Evil Saya' in the same unit simultaneously how you laid out the scenario of 'down on her luck' Tam pulling 'the upset' on Natsuko and kicking the door wide open for Saya to take the Red and leadership of H.A.T.E. works for me
Tam Vs Saya 12 months after it was meant to happen with Saya as a heel would be so interesting
Heel Saya Kamitani is the truth, sorry not sorry.
Giulia will always be special no matter what. Her none traditional approach to joshi Wrestling was always compelling and felt godly at the hight of her STARDOM run. Her NJPW big match style and her confidence in presentation was amazing. She was a breathe of fresh air for me after Kagetsu retired and honestly Giulia is my all time favourite Joshi Wrestler for the fact she goes against everything that modern Joshi wrestling stars are expected to be. Giulia never allowed herself to look weak, despite her booking having setbacks everytime she lost a big match she always came back better than ever before. The 2022 Journey of Giulia, her rise towards winning the Red Belt, leading DDM, losing Syuri and having to face her past in Suzu Suzuki along with winning the 5STAR GP was my favourite ever Joshi arc.
Honestly I agree with a lot of this, she was so engaging and unique from start to finish
The Shinjuku 5STAR Show was top tier stuff, every 5STAR match delivered.
Star League is the best Dream Star league. Miku Aono is far better than MIRAI and Rossys best Marigold signing not called Utami. Mai Sakurai going from Giulia's ichiban bag carrier to her ichiban chosen successor is kinda beast.
Big Taro booking = Maverick Rossy Ogawa booking = Prodictable like a great ham and cheese sandwich
Tam losing all of her 5STAR GP matches is a good story arc, Natsuko wanting to destroy while carrying out the mantra of H.A.T.E as Tam is at her weakest, has been perfect. Usually when Tam is at her weakest, it spells her winning a belt. Natsuko losing the Red Belt in V1 should spell her days being numbered as leader of H.A.T.E long term. RED STARS B has been the highlight of the 5STAR. Saya's heel work has slowly improved match by match in this 5STAR which is great for my Saya agenda.
Based on the event on 14th August, Actwres cannot be killed!!! Or at least it dies harder than Bruce Willis!
