CMP M1 Garand .308 with windage problem & 7th round stoppage
Переглядів 4 тис.2 роки тому
This is a brand new RM1308EXPERT M1 Garand purchased from the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Right off the bat, the windage adjustment needed to be maxed out to shoot straight at 50 yards, as shown in the video. Also had a seventh round stoppage (possibly related to the ammo I was using).
Story of my M38A1 Military Jeep Restoration

This video entails the full restoration of my M38A1 Jeep. This jeep was found in Akin, SC. The frame-off restoration was done myself. Most of the parts come from Kaiser Willys Jeep. I ordered the body from the Philippines.

Your detailed video is still my most valuable reference tool for identifying individual parts (especially USMC variations) on my M38A1 restoration. Thanks for sharing this!

Guess all the stuff I've heard and read about an engine can't run worth anything without some sort of exhaust was false.
I love this video 😍
There are tons of these trucks in Central Texas pretty sure you'll find parts to All The Way
Bloke superchill vid
outstanding red team, get ya a case of beer for that one! SGT. Terry
LOVE the video. I have a 53 m38A1. Thanks for the inspiration
Maybe you’re not smart enough for that fine rifle
J'adore cette musique, très bien adaptée à cette vidéo ! Tout cela ressemble au "rêve" américain, mais ce n'est qu'un rêve !
Seems like everybody shows all these 212 motorized bike but they don't go no faster than any 2-stroke motorized seems like the two strokes are a whole lot so what is it with you guys in you talk about whatever you're talking about but I don't see no speed I don't see you 65 70 mph show me the proof
You come here and you can see if it goes that fast. After riding I considered it unsafe at any speed. Bicycles were not made for that weight and speed
Semper Fi! Very nicely done! Ooh Rah! Gotta love that Marine Corp green, even with the Patton theme music!
Commendable job by passionate guys..
my 78 LT needs a LOT more work lmao gonna try to keep it with original specs, like it just rolled off the showroom floor awesome end btw!
Felicidades gran trabajo
Used to own a 77 LT. She was nice but she was a dog. lol 327. Great idea.👍 Oh, awesome tunes to pick too. Especially 1:51 👍👍
Adjust your front sight to the left until your rear sight is zeroed. I only use the rear sight for Wind adjustment, and you can’t keep track of it if you are way off as you are!
Thanks for the reply. I think its way off. I’ll get it sent back to check when my number comes up. Waiting list was 6 months.
New sub ! Liked 🚀🚀❤️🙏
My 78's a little more beat up haha. I wanna swap out the 305 so it gets the power it deserves but I don't know enough yet.
This is never coming back in stock is it? 🤦♂️
It shouldn’t. The damn think is dangerous. We haven’t been on it since the video was made. Sorry.
man I wish mine sounded that good
Looked at the engine on your channel. It’s sounds great. I may have a better exhaust though. Thanks for the comment

Did you have any problem with the chain fitting onto the clutch sprocket?
None. It’s all a workable setup generally but not for a beginner mechanic. This particular engine had to face backwards to get the correct rotation direction, and that added a LOT of work.
@@pfrost4011 did you use a 420 chain?
Yes the chain is a little long or short. Not a perfect size. I think I used the bicycle chain

Nice, Have been driving a Dutch Licencebuild one for the past 25 years, and restored many militairy vehicles with some friends in the past.
Hello Americans! I'm in Brazil- see what I bought from the Brazilian Army! youtube: Motor home relic of war. Em português: Motor Home relíquia de guerra
where did you get the engine mount?
It was a kit off the internet
Great job, I owned a 51 M38A1 that I bought out of a farm field in 1985. It still had the OD paint on it with a big white five point star centered on the hood. Maybe the Jarheads did not have that. BTW, I use the term Jarhead with great respect as my oldest grandson is one and in Viet Nam they called themselves that. dbg
The Jeep surprised me how sterile the markings were. Except for a sticker at the gas fill neck that I couldn’t find, it went back the way it was. As I recall the Marines didn’t even wear name tags on their duty uniforms until the mid 90s..
Wish I could of done a detailed restoration like this to my YJ, but unfortunately I’m only a broke college student :/. What state do you guys live in? It’s gorgeous the neighborhood and amount of room you guys have! I’m stuck here in NYC with next to nothing lol
South of the Mason-Dixon Line . I have it registered but I could drive anywhere around here without it. I’d guess you’d get busted there before your 3rd stop sign. Got pictures of your project, send a couple?
Check to see if the barrel is indexed correctly. Timing needs to be checked. Worn clip latch spring does not create a storage only can cause the enbloc to prematurely eject clip. Worn bullet guide can cause issues. 7th round stoppage was cured early in production. During the test it was found loading the last round.
7th round stoppage is the least on my trouble. I can’t hit the side of a barn with it. I plan to get back with ???? about but not got around to it. I’m a good shot just don’t know how I quantify that in a complaint. Thanks for the comment
Looks like the unelected fake catholic pres
Awesome rebuild. I enjoyed your video and the music was excellent. My 58 willy's was in about the same shape. Maybe even a bit better then yours. Well done. You climbed a tall mountain with this project. Great to see the boy's enjoying the journey with you. Take care!!
Thanks. It Was more about the project than the investment. We gave that Jeep 50 more years of life and the kids got the spark of appreciating classic machines. See our other videos
ua-cam.com/video/s5V_qIZEOUg/v-deo.html This is what causes 7th round stoppage
Start with both the front and rear sights centered. Take a couple of shots. If shooting to the left of the target, then move the front sight to the left, in small increments. Leave the rear sight centered. If shooting to the right of the target, move the front sight to the right. This way You do not have to adjust the rear sight has much. Sorry I have no solution for the 7th round stoppage. I own 4 m1's, two in 3006 and two in 308. Have never had that problem.
Excellent gentlemen
What do you think about the background music? A bit much or about right?
@@pfrost4011 I recognized it from the great escape, if you had some of the sounds and talking from the build that would be great

Good way to warp valves. Glad it only ran for a short.
Greetings P Frost. The 308 option is great. Are you able to shoot any type of 308 or does it need to be a certain load?
Still can’t find any affordable 308. Been shooting 7.62X51. $21.00 a box at Walmart
P Frost My CMP order is now being processed and since the Rack Grade is not available, am thinking to go with the 308 Expert grade.
Can u please tell me ...where should I buy m38 ....I'm from india
I have a 30.06 on order at the moment. I hope it will work well out of the box fingers crossed. If you buy your ammo please let me know where you are finding it. I don’t think the CMP has any M2 Ball in stock in 30.06. I plan to participate in some competitions the summer.
I got a 2nd M1 in 308 because 30.06 was hard to find. I ordered bulk from Outdoor Supply a while Back. . I saw this link the other day. www.royaltigerimports.com/product-p/us3006ammo001.htm?
I’ll bet CMP has it for the walk in customers if you’re close to a store.
@@pfrost4011 unfortunately not, in Denver. Good luck on your rifle.😀
All American 💪🇺🇲
Check that the stock isn’t warped and tensioning and bending the barrel off centre. Otherwise, you should centre up your rear sight and set windage by moving the front sight in the opposite direction as you want to move the point of impact.
Bloke why
just as a quick tip although I don't know if its necessary anymore is that u can remove the little exhaust pipe and put it on upside down so the exhaust blows sideway rather than up your ass.
I’m in need of some most excellent coverage of replacing the battery box. Might you have footage of such?
Great job me and brother is restoring our 53 jeep right now
Adjust your front sight to the middle. It loosens right up with an Allen key. I could see in the video it was off center.
You’re right. I took a good look at it and it is way off center, figuratively speaking . Don’t know how I missed that. Guess I’m always in a hurry at the range. Just can’t get any quality with my M1 anymore,
Great point. Good eye on this. This is another reason we make short videos so we can broaden our spectrum of support and knowledge. Thanks for sharing.
Not to sure we found the problem. I did adjust the front post to the exact middle and I’m still shooting tight groups left of center mass. My windage cranked way over to get that close. It sort of looks like the right wing on the front sight is bent. I feel a nick on it where it’s took a good bump some time. I’m thinking of writing *** and get an opinion of an armorer. They may say adjust the sight post till you get center mass with zero windage adjustment. I guess I’m ok with that is that is an acceptable procedure.
@@pfrost4011 so with the front sight dead center and the rear adjustments in the middle you are still way off?
@@gavinm1347 yes. Almost same group and location before I adjusted front post. The site wasn’t really off but was not exactly center. Maybe the slight bend to the wing is causing sight picture issues but I don’t think so. Plan to get some pictures of the targets, windage settings and send in later today if possible.
Try loading the enbloc loader putting the first(bottom) round on the left side so the top round is on the right grime the shooters point of view, if you haven’t already.
Thanks, I do have the top round on the right. The 7th round stoppage was odd but not a consistent problem. Having to set max windage at 50 yards is more of a problem. The front sight post looks. Centered.
Replace clip latch spring
Very, very nice on all levels! (Wondering if running the engine without coolant while it was off the Jeep led to the blown head gasket?)
No. Good thought though.. I only ran what you see in the video. I think what happened is I didn’t get the head decked when it was off. Took my chances and lost. I got it decked before I put it back on this time..
Great restoration !! thanks for this post.
Thank you!!
What a great project to do with your kids. I wish I had the mechanical talent to do something like that.
