AMAZING Alaska Stamp Mill Almost Fully Intact!
I was shocked to enter this mill building and see just how intact it still is after having been closed and abandoned since 1942. It would have been fully intact if not for selfish people who stripped out the copper and destroyed numerous historic machines. UNCOOL!
Some background: This mine was one of the major producers in the Fairbanks district prior to WWII. Discovered around 1912, production was 1914 until 1942 when it was shut down by the War Production Board Order L208, and like most other mines in the district. My research says is produced about 110,000 ounces of gold,

We were collecting thousands of small red garnets on the Beckler river at the Beckler river campground area. First time we have tried collecting garnets, so I had to use trial and error to figure out using a gold pan. We tried classifying but that only collected the bigger ones which was okay. We also just panned them without using a classifier. Either way it is a bit tedious and takes a while ...

We were shocked when looking at the open area that reveals the large boulders below the Pier revealed a raccoon with a missing arm! We felt bad for it so I purchased a corndog and fed him as you will see.

We put our my co-workers gingerbread house for the critters and we finally got a crow snatching something to eat. Since the crows are so cautious & suspicious it took about 2 weeks before they approached and took some.

I like to bring it to see if any mines have elevated radiation levels which doesnt happen much.
Worked with the owners of quartz creek mine in Alaska near the Kenai by moose pass. A 40 ft by 40 ft rock pile stacked up like a pyramid by Chinese miners. Was incredible.

I use a washington mine site but was never sure how accurate the location is on them.
I use as many of the websites out there as I can that will show the particular mine I am looking for. I compare their GPS coordinates, search for any other possible info. in a Google search then consult my Washington State Mining books. After that it's just a matter of getting out there and finding out. :-) I think the adventure of trying to find them is a lot of the fun.
dude I have been waiting to do this in washington. I would live to bring a metal detector looking for old 1800 coins or other lost history
