I’ve been using the Evergoods Transit Duffel 35 for quite a bit now. Although the version I have is the Carryology collab version, the main difference is the fabric. Functionally, they’re the same. Sorry for saying this so bluntly, but you don't seem to know anything about GoRuck bags. you said "people put there laptop in here ... I'm not sure if I would wanna put my laptop in here ..." - that pocket you're referring to is one of the biggest selling points of GoRuck bags: the "bombproof" laptop slot. Maybe you should do a little research before talking about a bag you apprantely know little about.
@@askabl Go touch grass, dude.
im thinking of getting one of these for my daughter to use as her school bag 🤔
@@Littlelamb2023 Hmmm that’s possible, but really depends on how long she’ll be wearing it, and what she’d be putting in it, especially if it’s heavy, like books. For a kid who is younger, the colors are super fetching.
Great review but please zoom in.
@@MapleMint Thanks, mate. I’ll keep it in mind for future review! Thanks for being here.
I bought this gonna take it with me to copanhagen next July as under seat. Already far point 40 for my Switzerland and Venice trip in feb and may respectively, exciting! Hope it’s good bag, both of em.
@@kingston4313 Ha! I love Switzerland and I close to getting a property not far from Venice. I hope they both do well for you. The travel backpack is solid.
I like this more than far point. Looks so clean and doesn’t stand out.
Interesting. All the reviews of this messenger bag seem to be mixed. I guess that counts it out.
If they produced this waxed bag as a standard model I would buy it. I ended up getting the Filson waxed bags simply because I know if I end up breaking them I can forever get support for the same materials and replace the bag like for like especially if they get lost / damaged in travel.
@@awdtw that’s a good reason to go with the Filson. Not sure what would happen if tried a fix with Evergoods. Still, it’s been rock solid for me.
Beautiful. I'm all for combining heritage and modern aesthetics which works well with this piece. Getting back into the field bag/satchel game recently with a pre-owned Vermilyea Pelle. Have you tried any of their stuff? Sadly they closed shop recently after nearly 15 years of bag making.
Wow the bag looks amazing and the stitching is just on point. Most leather bags are on the heavier side, do you feel the same with this bag when you wear it on one shoulder?
@@christopherho8015 You know, that was a big consideration for me, but as leather bags go, this is extraordinarily light. I think the use of UVX40 and a third of the handle being webbing contributes to that.
I like it but i think its like $400.00
this is a really cool limited edition of the canvas, can I ask how much you bought it for?
@@lIlIlIlIlIIIlIllIIllIII hey there! I paid $349 for it.
@@ofthetraveler thank you; it looks great with the patina/wearing patterns on it (also seems more durable than the standard fabric version on sale now)
For the side zippers, I'm surprised they made it aquaguard.
@@Kwisss That’s a good observation. You’re right. With how this bag packs and the way the fabric is gusetted, there’s not a huge need for aquaguard zips.
Would you want to sell this bag? I’m looking for one.
@@troymcallen hey Javi, at this point, this is probably one of the few bags I am not willing to sell. I imagine in the future I’ll upgrade to some sort of leather weekender, but for the foreseeable future, this is my main travel bag.
@@ofthetraveler cool, I was able to find one online, and your review helped a lot to make up my mind, so thanks!
@@troymcallen Glad to hear it! I’ve taken this thing on a bunch of trips and it quickly became one of my favorites. Good choice. This and a Trakke Muir I is my main travel setup.
So it's not practical as an every day bag / carry ? Im considering this bag as an every day and occasional travel bag. But because even if you open to get the laptop you probably dont want to access the rest of the bag through THAT by sliding your hand ie without opening it fully by without laying the bag down. I'm also considering bellroy venture 26L and travel ready 26L. All these bags are expensive/overpriced but bellroy is the most expensive. The bags should retail for 50-75% of what they do imo.
This bag is a huge disappointment the outside looks great but inside the main compartment it really looks low quality cheap and flimsey same thing is true for the district 24 pack.
@@georgeseriani2482 Sorry to hear that, man. I think the flimsiness is because they want it to serve a lot of different use cases, and for $150, I wasn’t expecting much better in terms of the materials. Think you’ll give it a go and see if it work out for you?
Hi and thanks for the clips. I hesitate between the Baird Pro or the Genghis. The Barbarossa was my 1st choice but they don’t sell it anymore. I am a keynote speaker and a lecturer. I travel a lot. Thanks for your help!
@@m-agirard3059 same here, man. I travel often on speaking gigs. I will say that recently. I recently acquired a Wilboro Revival Satchel. You may also want to look at the Satchel and Page Mailman Messenger.
@@m-agirard3059 But if I had to choose between the Genghis and the Bairn Pro, Bairn Pro all day. The Genghis is beautiful, but it’s not super practical.
@@ofthetraveler and Barbarossa or Bairn Pro?
@@m-agirard3059 oof, that’s tough. The Barbarossa is beautiful and simple. I use it when I visit my higher end clients and don’t plan on taking a ton of stuff with me. The Bairn Pro is also classy, but not Barbarossa classy. The Bairn will be bigger and offer a bit more functionality. So between the two, I guess it would depend on what you want to lean toward, aesthetics or functionality.
They have a fox colored one I like I'm dying to know the color of the interior because alk my bags have orange I interiors
I think the side zipper is so that you can reach inside without ripping the Velcro.
@@georgeseriani2482 it’s possible! I certainly never used it that way. But I could see a way to make that work. Good thinking.
i grew interested in this sling after i hear the designer said that he's a lefty. and its obvious to see his influence is trickled down to the ambidextrous nature of the bag.
@@rockyescape8989 it’s a dope sling for sure. It’s one of the few I regret selling, I occasionally visit the Boundary site and peruse it, hovering over the buy button.
So close to perfect! the only thing missing (to me) is a quick access zippered pocket for valuables and important documents such as a passport. Without that, I'm probably going to lean towards Bleu de Chauffe
@@DT-vc7hd You’re absolutely right! A QA pocket would have taken it to a new height. And even, possibly a bottle pocket, even though I’m not sure how they’d do it. Still, beautiful bag. Wish I could have had more of a use for it. I really want a Bleu De Chauffe.
I would simply get cheap slim bottles from Amazon. That's what I've been doing for years and there's no way I would go back to using those more common hefty bottles. I actually love that these side pockes are tight so that my slim bottle and skinny umbrella would be unlikely to fall out during one of those quick runs.
@@exergyone7164 yeah for sure. Totally get that. Two things: I don’t usually carry a water bottle, I mainly have a can of Coke Zero or a monster energy drink. Also, I feel that, within reason, I shouldn’t need to change my behavior for a bag, the bag should adapt to my behavior. So, although I don’t expect a bottle pocket to carry a huge 42 oz Nalgene or hydroflask, I do expect it to hold some of the most common sizes in existence (the basic can).
@@ofthetraveler I understand your point but somewhat disagree. In my case I don't need to change my behavior as I am already into slim bottles and have been for quite a while. They're just so convenient in a variety of cases. Regarding changing my behavior, which I would agree in some cases, I no longer purchase backpacks without a side handle or with a side handle positioned for left-handed use / right shoulder swing. I just find it so annoying. I am not willing to move my watch away from my left wrist, as 90% of the world. I think I am with you on the cobra buckles positioning and the zippered side pockets; the dump pockets with the flap seem like enough.
@@exergyone7164 one of the beauties of carry is the variety. Something for everyone.
"Giant's maxi pad" 🤣🤣 Great review. Definitely fan of Trakke's aesthetics. Good to know about the water bottle pocket.
The bannoch pro they just released would be a great review.
I would love to review a Bannoch Pro as the classic Bannoch is the backpack I’ve used the most over the last four years, hands down. Trakke has never sent me anything, so I’d need to buy it myself, and I just bought a Wilboro Revival, so it may be a bit until my wallet recovers 😂
Great looking bag. I agree with your comments about the water bottle pocket. I feel like bagmakers have never done water bottle pockets on shoulder bags right. they are either too shallow or do not stretch out enough.
It’s a tough one to get right, which is probably why so many makers don’t do it for fear of invalidating an otherwise good design. The Mystery Ranch District Pro did it very well, but then again, that bag isn’t the most high-end bag out there.
First like then watch. Learned so much on philosophy of using a bag on this channel.
Thanks for being here, I appreciate it.
Would you like to make your videos with high-quality edits? I'm an editor and would love to help, if you’re interested.
A very interesting bag
Before purchasing this pack it makes sense to check their site and read or watch any information about its form and function - it is useful in deciding if this pack is for your use case. This backpack is specifically made to carry gear safely to and from your destination. This pack is not meant to be constantly accessed during a trip. Still, to access your laptop quickly, you can easily stand the bag up and partially open the main compartment pulling your laptop out without opening the entire clamshell. The pack opens on its face to keep the harness section off the ground keeping dirt and other pathogens off your back. The strength of this pack is the simplicity and expansion. With less admin pockets you take only what is essential.
@@cafeapaka7501 It’s called a Travel backpack, so it’s used during travel - transit and once at the destination as EDC, given its capacity. Not everyone uses packs the same way, irrelevant of the intention of the designer. Glad you’ve found the way it works to fit your use case 👏 👏 👏
@@ofthetraveler true, totally agree - not everyone uses a pack the same way but some packs are designed to be used a particular way whether a user does so or not (design can dictate use) - I don’t use the PD 30 L for this reason as it is not logically setup for ease of access during travel because of the lack of a deeper admin front pocket - still an incredible pack but again, some packs will logically steer you for certain use cases.
This is one of the few bags on the market with a more minimalist laptop compartment. If someone needs a better laptop compartment there are hundreds of bags to choose from.
@@zclaus9642 that’s certainly a valid perspective. But I’d argue that the grand majority of people who use a “travel” bag like this, will be putting a laptop inside. Especially since Peak Design is a very tech/photography centric company. Still, if a minimalist laptop compartment is your jam, I am glad you found something that works for you.
The Aer Travel Pack series has the laptop on the back with the main compartment zipper on the front side to let you pack the way you prefer.
Wow, hi from an another type 1 diabete here! I love your videos, man. It’s kind of awesome that we both like backpacks and pouches, and are type-1 diabetes. I wish the best to your channel and BG control. Also love your idea using Evergoods CAP 1 as an insulin pouch, and actually I just ordered one to see if I can fit my diabete essentials into it. Are still you using Cap 1L as your insulin pouch? Curious to hear! -Glen
I like this bag specifically because I don't take my laptop on trips (the laptop storage takes little space when not used). If I do need a laptop, I use a different backpack. Obviously, maximizing bag utility has its compromises.
That’s a good point. Unfortunately, because of what I do for a living, I always take my laptop. I’d love to not have it 😂 Still, even without the laptop, the way this bag opens causes the bottom to fold in on itself, and I am not a fan. It’s a minor thing, but it’s there. Thanks for the comment!
I love peak design and I just got one of these in but I’m worried I might have to return it. Was hoping it would work for me but it’s almost over-optimized. It won’t really fit my stuff well because it has so many pockets that I can’t fit the same stuff in as my old pouch which was just one big pocket. Trying to figure out how I can reorganize and repack the various items, but I almost think their new ultralight packing cube in small size would make a better dopp kit. It’s so cool and I want to like it haha. I just can’t figure out the right ways to pack it yet.
That’s a good point and I agree, there’s way too many little pockets and toiletries come in 1000 different shapes. I prefer just a large compartment or in this case two divided compartments. I barely used the little pockets - everything I put in was in the two main compartments. I love my Bellroy Toiletry kit for this reason.
5:39 you’re not necessarily travelling alone 😅 could be your partner’s roller luggage with your own backpack on top
@@Medsas You’re absolutely right. In a few of this trips, the luggage I was rolling around with was my toddler’s 😆
Your nit-picks are valid points. I think sometimes bag designers try to get a little too cute and want to design something unconventional just to be different. The most functional bag opening is the way you described it, separate laptop compartment in back, a top opening zipper and a clam shell opening.
@@kurtthecat3995 You describe it perfectly. That’s the sweet spot right there. A bag I love but never keep because of perceived durability issues is the Wandrd Prvke, it suffers from having a weird opening into the main, where the weight of the entire pack is on the zipper.
@@ofthetraveler I'll check that bag to see what you're describing. It's the same with the Pakt bags, all great features, but why the heck is the laptop sleeve in the middle of the clamshell? It affects expandability. Just put it in the back of the bag. I figured if I ever get the Pakt bag, I would cut out the laptop sleeve.
Can totally see this being used as a sling. However, my preference would be to use the CAP1 as a sling, for travel essentials - passport, boarding pass, currency notes and coins, credit cards, small power bank, cables, wired/wireless earphones and a pen. The advantage being that both sides have zippered closure, so nothing will fall out if the magnets do give way.
I love my backpack. Wish I had waited for the ADT2 it's a bit too big for me even at 6'3". And way too many straps. Took me forever to figure out how to manage them
Hey how is the material holding on? Have you been using the bag and do you have hard stains on Baida nylon I heard its very susitanable to stains...
@@comeatime-rg2yl I am still using it! In fact, I just took it on a family trip last week. The fabric is amazing, still holding up strong and looks almost brand new. It’s one of my favorite fabrics. Also, stains do come off very easy. No issues there.
@@ofthetraveler I have bought it earliear in this fabric. This video motivated me tho haha. I was expecting Nightsky in Venture Ripstop nylon that I adore and think thats is one of the most versetaile and malleable materials but the seller have seneded me Baida Nylon but now I got it i really enjoy it.
yeah, I agree with Apple comment. hate that all manufacturers of these bags just assume everyone uses apple stuff
is the 45 liter good? i have the everyday backpack but i cant fit any clothes in that bag
@@Rydal1 This one is the 30L and it enough for short trips, maybe a week at most, or if you’re a very minimalist traveler. The 45L can easily get you multiple weeks worth of travel. The different between the everyday backpack and these is how the internals are laid out. The travel bags open up clamshell like luggage and are purpose designed for using the PD packing cubes.
I bought this and within 90 minutes of use the main compartment leather attachment to the zipper came loose. There is an inherent defect in the zip - which leaves a gap, that gets exaggerated easily. Bellroy suggested I fix it with pliers! Poor quality. Shame for what should be a great product.
@@docm6310 Sorry to hear that. The weekender has since been discontinued. The classic weekender is what they’re offering now, I haven’t used it yet, but I think it responds to a lot of the issues I had with this particular bag.
Great review! What are the internal dimensions of the bag's main compartment?
What are the actual differences between both versions, you don't say a lot about it
@@annikadunkel3093 Hey Annika, I didn’t really go over the differences because the older version is no longer available, and the newer version is better in virtually every way. The closure is better, the materials are better, the pocketing is better, and the organization is better.
@@ofthetraveler thank you, here in the USA both versions are available which is why I asked, but I ordered the newer one. Thank you for your video.
the waxed canvas brown looks so nice
Just curious why you wouldn’t put a laptop in the laptop sleeve?
Hi! Which bag has more capacity? Huhu or No Reception? Thanks
Hey there! Technically, the No Reception Club bag is 24L vs. Huhu’s 20L. But… there’s a couple of caveats. Number 1 is that not every manufacturer measure capacity the same. So those numbers may be superfluous. Number 2, it depends how you like to pack. If you want lots of built in organization than the No Reception Club may be the way to go; but if you want a more free flowing experience that can change and adapt a bit more frictionless as the times and kids change, than the Huhu bag will pack better. Hope that helps.
Really nice review! My QWSTION Simple Office is slowly disintegrating, and I'm looking for a more robust 3-way pack. Want to use it mostly in briefcase and backpack mode. This one looks really nice. I only wish there was a version half the thickness. (400x300x100 mm is common max. extra item size, plus I think thinner looks better)
Good review and I have to admit, I own and love this bag! I’m a bag guy, have a bunch from several different manufacturers. The strap doesn’t bother me as in most cases I replace the shoulder pad with one of my own that’s thick, comfy and non-slip. It’s a great meeting/presentation bag.
I got this bag about a week ago and I absolutely LOVE it. One clarification: You were trying to store your laptop in the exterior tablet sleeve...not in the internal laptop compartment where it's more than large enough for a 14" laptop. I know this because I store my 14" MacBook Pro inside, along with an A5 leather journal + cover, leather field notes wallet (a bit smaller than a travelers brand notebook), iPhone, keys, a Maxpedition pouch with all kinds of "just in case" tools/grooming/emergency supplies, AirPods, sunglasses, and several large fountain pens. In the external zippered compartment I carry my 11" iPad Pro in a Logitech keyboard case. And in the hidden back pocket I carry an ID badge on a lanyard. I can wear this on my motorcycle without fear of water ruining my electronics. I wear it as a sling in front when on my motorcade or driving a car, and when walking it's on my back (sling mode) or on one shoulder (messenger mode). It is the most comfortable and wisely designed EDC bag I've ever used...and I have tried so many. It even doubles as a handy desk surface (due to its contoured shape) when placed face down underneath my laptop. Sooo versatile.
The bag is great, but the black rubber looking stuff cracks and peels after a while!
You’re absolutely right. One of the reasons, that, time, I’ve gone to more natural materials like canvas and leather for the bags that I keep long term.
