World Trigger is overrated Osamu Mikumo is a very badly written character. He literally complains about Yuma defending himself at all against thugs who are completely willing to use physical force to severely harm Yuma and try to deceive him to rob him of all his money. Osamu proceeds to demonize Yuma for defending himself and says that Yuma is just as bad for using self defence when the alternative is to let himself get beat up. Osamu continues to get beat up by bullies. When Yuma literally points out that he didn't start the fight and only defended himself. Osamu rather than coming up with any valid reason or counterpoint why self defence is such a bad thing to do. Osamu instead acts like Yuma has alien morals & logic because he points out the obvious flaws in Osamu's logic. Even worse poor Yuma is forced to go alone with Osamu's backwards nonsensical logic and accept Osamu's demands upon him as Japan's Customs while pointing out that Japan's laws only seem to benefit bad guys. I'm perfectly fine with main characters being pacifists. But when those main characters actively demonize anyone who defends themselves from bullying and force others to stop defending themselves from bullying & people trying to harm them. Its just bad writing. Meanwhile Osamu joined Border which harms & kills aliens of his own free will to fight aliens even though he is supposedly a pacifist to the point he actively demonizes anyone who defends themselves against bullies and considers anyone who uses self defence to be just as bad as criminals & bullies. And that's not even counting the rest of Osamu's nonsensical decisions that put other people in danger while Osamu gets off scot free because of plot armor. Osamu behaves like a self-centered brat. Many times, over and over again, he behaves in a manner that endanger himself and others, all to satisfy his own sense of ethics. Each time, the plot made it so that he’s lucky enough that neither himself nor anyone else has died. Exhibit A: early on, Osamu breaks regulations to fight an enemy he cannot beat, without the experience to limit collateral damage and civilian loss of life, and without a bailout trigger. I’ll give him credit for his bravery, because most wouldn’t be able to do that. I’ll also give him credit for ultimately buying enough time to save lives. However, his actions endangered himself and others, and not only that, but now that he’s done that the other recruits might do the same thing, increasing the potential for casualties in the long term. Exactly the issue with vigilante behavior. He got lucky, and that is the only reason why innocent people did not die yet. This would be worthy of being court-martialed, discharged dishonorably, and being sentence to jail in any functioning military. Yet, plot armor saves Osamu from any of that. Exhibit B: He revealed to the world military secrets, specifically, the existence of the away missions. Now, they deserve to be bit in the ass for trying to make a scapegoat out of Osamu, but that is absolutely not the reason Osamu spoke about the away mission in the first place. He spoke about the away missions because he wanted to save the people who were abducted by the neighbor invasions. Now, while his intentions are admirable, the result is that now Border has to dedicate more recourses to satisfy public demand, which is an issue because the total number of resources Border has did not change. This means these resources are going to come at the cost of other, potentially more pressing priorities, and Osamu has put Border in a more difficult position once again. If this was to call out Border on their attempt to stick it to him, then fair enough, but that’s not the case and that’s why I am pretty unhappy with him here.

Cook Chef Both Gripes and Praises should be Heard

Few points 1. All the movies are canon. Yes, even Heroes Rising. That’s why characters like Melissa and Rody appear in the manga later on. They’re not necessarily “important” to the main story but they’re all canon. 2. I definitely agree the female cast is shafted for the most part, especially Nejire, but the only female character that doesn’t suffer from this imo is Ochako. Act 3 really was hers. And once the anime gets further into the finale, more people will finally see that. Really appreciate this video, though. My Hero has become the new punching bag in the anime community and I remember there was a time when Fairy Tail was once in that position. (And honestly, it was far more deserved there)

You deserve so many more views. Great video exploring the strengths of the series and the stuff people overlook. I will say, as a manga reader (so no production value commentary), I do find it funny that I fundamentally agree with you on a lot of this, which ends up being why I ended up falling off. Like Gentle Criminal is, in fact, one of my favorite arcs (and if I was being highly cynical, what I would call the last "good arc" in MHA) for the exact reasons you state. It really gets at the core of the story and the world and the themes in a way that I think the broader conflict, despite pointing at the same stuff, fails to. I agree about the things you think MHA does right and am just a little bummed that I feel it failed to capitalize on the stronger beats of its own narrative. But also yeah people are absolutely insane if they thing it totally fell off and no one likes it anymore.

It's definitely the large yet underutilised cast that I have the biggest problem with. Introducing so many interesting characters, and then focusing on only a select few and leaving all the others in the dust. It made the future war arcs very up and down for me because of my varying levels of interest in the characters that we jump to

Also, yeah, Izuku is literally a madman, borderline insane (I still believe it up to this day) that he should have gotten a therapy back before he was picked as Yagi's successor...

Honestly I disagree with the remark of Trigger doing a decent job. They have done a barely passable one. What made it very clear was on the first episode in which it is explained that the way that is littered in traps was a HUGE BOON because otherwise they’d have to deal with the scenario you see giant Laios in the opening(suspended corridors exposed on both sides) and it would be GUARANTEED that they’d be attacked by TONS of flying monsters(they usually took that path when they had the other 2 fighters). Trigger didn’t feel the need to add that despite using the visuals shamelessly.

Gentle Criminal arc is peak, the joint training arc WAS boring. But it is now a parroted take. The joint training arc felt bad because of the weekly release in the manga. This made the manga feel utterly boring which was turned into a long running take. Whereas when you go back and read it all together, that same criticism doesn't apply.

My criticism of MHA is not that it's boring or ill-written. I liked the school events and I loved the Gentle Criminal arc. What I didn't like was the entire hospital battle arc heaping tragedy upon tragedy on Deku and slowly dragging him through the mud across the entire runtime of the sixth season. I _like_ Deku and his class, I _want_ them to succeed, and S6 was 25 episodes of constantly increasing dread and sadness, steadily descending into a soup of dark grey. The cheerful cast dynamics, the cheesy banter, the philosophical commentary on the nature and culture of heroism, and most importantly the firm belief in the future during every trial across the first five seasons were now gone for good, and halfway through that arc I began wondering when this stopped being MHA and became Grave of the Fireflies

I love this series! It's the perfect combo of fantasy, comedy, but also seriousness. It reminds me of The Slayers, which I also loved. I wish there were more series like this!

One thing I don't understand is that if the creatures of the dungeon are all created by the magic of the dungeon and they are eating the dungeon monsters are they kind of becoming part of the dungeon too?

I forget that AOT is a shonen and put it next to others like One Piece or Dragon Ball. It's as if it's two different completely different genres of work
