You got a lot of views on this one👍
@DesertRatFabrication yes, it's nice to see hey!
I think you do nice work, that is one of best , well designed flat beds I have seen the lazer cut parts , make it look very professional.
@petem6291 thank you very much. I didn't want it to be like all the others! Stick around to see the rear bumper in a couple weeks!
Instead of ramps I'd put a door and a shelf for a spare tire.
Looking at it again today it isn't practical to put ramps. Spare will be on a winch from under I think. Thanks for watching!
Very impressed with the corners Charlie, nice work buddy, and i am digg'n the rear bumper, that is going to look awesome, catch you soon😁😁
Thanks Mike! means a lot!
Do NOT revess your lights, flush is fine ...recessed filles with dirt sand mud and snow, way to easy to completely obscure your lights
Stake pockets often times are on either end of the wheel arch. One on each corner. One One each side of the wheel. That gives you 4 ...allowing you to have two piece sides ( smaller and more manageable)
If I install them that is how they will be I think.
Love the corners Charlie!
@Bigt62789 thanks Tim!
I dig it. The only thing I would change about the back would be to round the edges.
@@theothertoddg could look good like that
Could you build in a lockers to the rear bumper for ratchet straps etc?
@excossack yes that's a good idea, maybe a hatch for ramps or a drawer.
@@EnglishCharlie with some built in lights for night time hauling.
@@excossack I'm way ahead of you!
I love the design of that bumper. Don't forget the light for the license plate.
@MarksGarageChannel thanks Mark! Yes I have that in mind, thanks for the reminder!
You know, having your stake pockets on the outside with a rail provides a great place for securing loads.
@adubbelde1 it was a much thought about decision not to go that route. I know what you mean though.
Looking good Charlie, i was waiting for the corners, guess i'll have to wait till next video, lol, catch you soon buddy😁😁
@DesertRatFabrication they are done, it'll be soon Mike don't worry!
@DesertRatFabrication it's live now buddy!
Nice music choice as well as the excellent metal work.
Thanks Mark! apt hey!
Hi Charlie, lol, consider yourself lucky at least you don't have a closed drive shaft w/ torque tube, they called it AD/ Miracle Child Ingenuity, ha ha, give me a modern day drive shaft any day, lol, looks like you got it handled my friend, have a great day 😁😁
@DesertRatFabrication thanks Mike, torque tube is another headache altogether. I think that would have been a replacement axle.
@@EnglishCharlie yes I agree👍
@DesertRatFabrication thanks for stopping by good to hear from you!
Great video, thank you, i just came across your channel. Stunning fabrication, good luck for the future.
@williamstewartbuchanan5299 thank you, I'm enjoying the flat deck build on the GMC at the moment!
I'm not sure that in 51 it had an open driveshaft. For sure the 1/2 and 3/4 tons had a torque tube enclosed drive shaft.
@adubbelde1 hey Alan, this one is a 1 Ton. These things get shopped and changed so much. Who knows.
All in all, considering the age of the vehicle, you could not wish for a better basis for a project. It's solid!
That's so true!
Very nice Charlie, excellent workman ship, i'll be waiting for the next one😁😁
@DesertRatFabrication thanks for stopping by Mike! Hopefully soon!
@@EnglishCharlie 👍👍
Very nice Charlie, iv'e seen a few guys start out radius the corners, but they usually end up just sliding the pipe up and welding, i will be curious to see if you stay with the radius corner, catch you soon😁😁
@DesertRatFabrication not sure how you mean sliding the pipe up? Hopefully get back to it soon!
Very nice design. Can't wait to see it completed with the wood deck.
Me too Mark! Thanks buddy!
Looks fab!
Thanks bud!

Gotta love an old GMC
100%!
Lovely work, cheers
You're welcome, thanks for the comment
Will these comply with the MoT requirements? For all intents and purposes there is no confusion but I believe the Regs say that all forward facing lights must be in pairs so that when the indicators are working there is only one forward facing light.
They will be like on a modern car with day running lights, the white lights go out while the indicator is on. But we will see. Because of the age of the truck the rear indicators being red will comply.
@@EnglishCharlie Whilst both are on they will simply be compliant but I believe that both the EU and UK C&U Regs require forward facing white lights to be in pairs when illuminated. I have never seen any European based cars that extinguish a forward facing white light to allow the indicator to work. There are plenty of examples that have both white and indicators working at the same time and you could achieve that with dual bulbs. At the rear the vehicle has to have been in use prior to 1/9/65 to be allowed to have red indicators. So, if your truck is post that date it will have to have amber indicators.
@clivewilliams3661 the bulbs are duel filament. I'm going by the modern LED running lights which switch to indicators. That's how these may work. As they are duel filament. It is a '51 truck so should be good. All of the marker and signal lights will be controlled by a processor I'll write the code for so I'll be able to configure it any way it needs to be. Not conventional but it's not like I'll sell it. Thanks for your comments Clive.
@@EnglishCharlie Which car(s) have DRLs that switch to indicators? I can't recall any. In any case the lamp units will be 'E; marked to show that they conform to EU and thus UK approval. Your modified ones wont have that. I wish you well with this as for all intents and purposes it does what the rules intend but you can bet the Technocrats at DVSA will have the book open if they inspect. Will you need an MoT given the age of the vehicle - I think not?
@clivewilliams3661 we will see. I am adaptable. Nothing on the vehicle will have had those markings so it's a historic thing. LED or filament they should be interchangeable. Pretty much every new vehicle with signature lights does this. Perhaps we are at a crossed purpose. I see the MOT as an essential document for any vehicle. Regardless of whether it is required or not the vehicle must still meet the standards as set out for road worthiness. For £45 why wouldn't a person have an annual test?
That said... Don't grind them flat.
If a grinder you are a welder you ain't ehh!

@@EnglishCharlie Thank you. You may not realise is but you are giving master classes to lots of us.
@simonvalente2187 not that many people comment to tell me that, so thanks. I'm just doing my own thing how I see fit.
Great work of using the day light running to be the indicators. The lights look really smart
Thanks Charlie!
Nice work Charlie, haven't seen you around much😁😁
Thanks Mike I need to catch up on a lot of friends work. I've been busy.
I note you used the term marker lights, and you have what appear to be firing cylinders for locomotive fire extinguisher systems. Did you used to be in the rail industry?
No, I haven't. I have mixed with a lot of different people from all walks of life, pick thinks up haha
Marker lights is a very American term, especially with "older folks " .. he may well have picked it up in groups and forums where most of these old trucks reside and are owned by us insufferable weird speaking Yanks
@GrumpysAlaska-ue2lp too funny! True story!
Excellent work. My front parklights are very different.
Maybe it's a Canadian thing
My knife has made a comeback! I’m excited for riding in it now xx

Thank you for that recognition Daniel, appreciated. Worked on this one over a little while.
Great update Charlie! Looking forward to seeing more progress soon
Soon I hope! Thanks!
Scarlet is quite the little helper. Nice to see you working with her. I think your crossmember would support a large Diesel motor :)

Yes, I like as much originality as possible too.
Are you going to cut recesses for the rivit heads or are just gonna let the wood compress?
Sorry, I missed this comment!I drilled a hole then countersunk it. It'll be in the next video!
The wood looks nice Charlie!
Smells good too! Nice to look down a length of wood and not see the ocean!
