Unveiling the Truth: Introverts and Gardening
Eden rose is a rose for shade gardens. You planted it exposed to all day direct sun and it's delicate rosettes got burned. Move it to a more shady spot where it gets coverage from afternoon sun.
Thank you, that is good advice however this is the only year it did so poorly despite the growing crepe myrtle tree next to it giving it more shade this year. I believe the darned rose slugs may be the main culprit. I will try to treat those rose slugs next year. I'm not looking forward to that work lol.
Is it black spot resistant?
Yes! So far it is has been the most healthy rose in my garden.
3:58 - I never expected a pine to be eaten by deer
I was surprised too! It turns out deer will eat ANYTHING 1) if deer don't usually have access to a particular plant 2) if deer are hungry enough
3:30 which one is the most fragrant then?
The strongest rose I've *consistently* experienced in my area is Gertrude Jekyll. It's fragrance is more Old Rose aka Damask while this rose is more Fruity. 😍🌹
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. I will check into this system. I love how it can be hidden under mulch etc. Ingenious hacks with the end bit!
I'm so glad you liked the video. Good luck with your project! 👍
Thank you for the video I think I should buy more of them 🤔
It's a gorgeous tree, I think and all year round. My pine tree looks sad but my green giants are still fluffy and pretty much green all winter.
Did you ever have problems with it leaking from the connection points? I sure did.
I didn't notice any leaking from connection points but it is buried under mulch and the amount wouldn't be an issue in that area because we have a good deal of soil for it to drain into. If it's causing an issue for your situation, have you thought about disassembling it and putting silicone at the connections to make it water tight?
@@FumblingwithFlowers that is my next move....thank you!
It works. Took a lot of effort and ingenuity and I think you won. Honestly in this day and age I have spent too much time on UA-cam, Amazon, Home Depot looking for 40 in down spout diverters and non are aesthetic at all . Found one that was 36 inches flat with 2 inch lip that you can fill with small stones but it's a few inches too short and those with the fat round attachments are hideous. I'm wondering if a piece of the gutter itself cut to fit under the downspout would work and fill with stones to keep secure and look somewhat ok. Here's the issue, a lot of people have uneven yards or want water to be directed specifically. Yes those hard plastic flat ones work but seem to only be 2 feet in size.
I sympathize. I don't want to think about how much time I've spent searching for things or obsessing about things that probably don't warrant it. Sometimes it's best to experiment and do something different (especially if it's not costly) to see what works for your unique set of circumstances. Best of luck!
Your garden is beautiful. The last few years I’ve been buying a bag of earthworm castings from my local Costco in the spring. The coloration on my roses has never been better since adding that.
Thanks. It's a work in progress. Nice. I will keep that in mind. 🙏🌹
Which weather zone r u in
Zone 6. In NJ
Very nice! Definitely takes time for them to settle in. Do any of your roses form nice hips? Mine don’t, but I’ve seen some and I’m jealous. Look out for Japanese beetles. I’ve been finding a lot this year.
Thanks! Rugos set hips but I've been deadheading trying for a rebloom. I have a purplish rugosa that is setting hips right now. I decided not to deadhead it because it's not a great rebloomer anyway. Some can be very nice.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I like the red leaves in fall. I bought an Ivory Halo red twig dogwood last year. Kind of regret it. The stems don’t look red to me. It’s been banished to the don’t water/ don’t care outskirts garden.
Looks great to me...functional for what you need
Love things that don't mind heavy clay and bonus is for the hummingbirds
XD that government getting the owl statement had me laughing out loud! LOL
Yeah, I never saw that coming! 😂
Love this! Oh man I need to try this...
Thank you for sharing this! Love seeing the cute owls in their home, even if it was a temporary living arrangement. They are beautiful creatures.
I need this! It's native to my area, and I love my hummingbirds that visit me. Great video. Love the close-ups of the parts of the plant.
So beautiful
Bless so nice I love your voice its so beautiful 🌹 rose for you from me
Hardy shade tolerant roses are hard to find. I almost had a heart attack yesterday when I found a pair of Japanese beetles mating on my rose bush. I broke a world record running for a can of a Raid. 😅
It’s pretty! I wish I had bought David Austin roses to begin with. Mixing them with my current floribundas might look odd.
I like mixing but I know what you mean. 😊
the pruned ones look weird like they've been sawed in half
I guess they look like that because they are basically are sawed in half. 😃

you have a very lovely voice. You should consider doing some voice acting. ❤
The blooms are similar to my Iceberg rose. No scent though. I don’t like the scent of most flowers. Maybe, it’s a guy thing. My Carolina Sapphire Cypress is probably my favorite.
It’s beautiful. Wish I had a spot for climbing roses.
👍👍👍👍👍🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎
This was very helpful. Thanks!
Maybe the squirrel is like a real estate agent and talked them into another house. 👍🏻 for brown paint. Before it looked like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz got impaled by a tree. 😂
😂
As far as blossom color, it takes time for the bud to saturate in color. For example, the roses in fall usually have much better color because the buds take weeks to open instead of a few days in summer. I find it easier to just squish the rose slugs and aphids. It’s only a couple weeks that they’re very active. That one by the house is not looking good. I’d trim all that dead stuff and hopefully it’ll leaf out again. 🤞🏻
I grow this and a brother in the brindebella line called crimson knight. Extremely durable here in northwest Florida which is a tough place for roses. Comparing it to a knockout is setting bar so low 😅
I compare because it is similar to knockout health and bloom power and perhaps (hopefully) becoming as available and popular. 😍
😆😂😂😂😂 awesome style!!! 😉
Hi, very nice video I was suprised you did not cover the gravel with geofabric but if not soil or grass is on top then it is not needed. At the end of the pipe where you have the green outlet, you can do a few things 1. use a gutter adapter to go from round to oblong by using round to oblong gutter pipe adapter, as it is about 1/3 the high you can use if for a few yards as it will remain low 2. use some plastic sheet, ow as you used about 6 cubic yards of gravel in the trench, then the top surface should be closer to 2 cubic yards of say river pebble or white / red pebble as a decorative top. 2 years ago i used what i thought was sandstone blocks, but they are really aerated concrete blocks with a sandstone texture and colour , between the blocks and the house is about 2 foot and i filled that with 20mm or 3/4 inch size washed river pebbles The front of the house is white, the sides of the house ( non driveway side ) is a cheaper brown/grey 10mm ( less than 1/2 inch egg shaped pebbles, some are chipped - it does not matter as they are about 1/3 the price of the nice larger which pebbles 3. where the green end of the pipe is, consider a adapter for stormwater to schedule 40 pipe and just use the last 2 foot as schedule 40, this will be much stronger in case you walk over it - and it is just a small piece and being closer to the surface it may be better with a stronger pipe 4. where the pipe end at the green bit, to stop the mud being created (until the grass grows ) , you can use some pebbles or grab some pavers and lay them in front of the pipe, then run them to the road, the flat surface of the paver will make the water run better and not make any more water trenches it wont take to many paver, i think about 4 or 6 wide is plenty then go forward - i had a quick look at home depot, some nice cream pavers for 60 cents ( i cant believe i was geo-blocked and had to use vpn to view home depot as i am in australia ) you have a nice yard btw regards george
Hi George, hello to you in Australia! Thank you for your kind comment and many useful tips! We didn't do the extra fabric step because we read about it slowing down water flow and the risk of clogging from our fine, clay soil. Often our rain accumulations are from quick, intense downpours where we need to guide the water ASAP. Despite the imperfections, fortunately for us, we've had no clogs of any kind and everything is functioning well even years later at least in our situation. Maybe one day we'll remove the catch basins when we have time as I feel like they are an eyesore and not that functional in this particular instance. Anyway, I will definitely keep your tips in mind for future projects, thank you sir!
Nice! It might not be a good idea to plant in front of your roses. Roses like air circulation and sun to burn the morning dew off the leaves. That dampness gives them fungus and diseases.
Agreed, it's always best to try to space roses out with plenty of sun and air circulation especially in our wet area in NJ.
@@FumblingwithFlowers I just bought a new one, Morden Blush. The next day, a skunk dug it up and thought it would look better lying sideways on the ground. Everyone’s a critic. 😂

I got this from the grocery store in beaten up condition and I paid the full price. I revived him and see I first bud this morning. I was wondering how it’s going to look when fully grown. Thanks for your video sharing this beauty!!!!❤
I'm so glad you found this rose.😍 I think it's worth it. It's doing great for me here in NJ.. Disease resistant, fragrant, and repeat flowering. 👍
Very cute adorable voice 😊
You are so kind, thanks! 😊
They look good. I budget 500 for new plants, but that’s only 40/ month for my hobby. Then I shop Japanese maples and those fancy concrete pots. 😢 💵
Do your roses get aphids and rose sawflies? I’m on daily patrol.
Never mind. I just saw the last video. 😅
@@willaerley7140 😆 Every time I'm out there. I really should remember to wear my glasses or even a magnifying glass.
I have two rose bushes Belinda's Dream that have big, beautiful, fragrant pink roses. They are planted outside my breakfast area window. I do take delight in seeing them and also bringing some of them in to place on the end table near where I sit on the couch. It's one life's simple joys.
