Hi!
I'm James I make video lessons and starter activities to help students with their English.
I've been teaching English for three years and been studying it for most of my life, towards the end of my degree I found out that I'm dyslexic and although I did struggle my love of English really helped and I was able to develop strategies that made English accessible and enjoyable, I try and do that for my students.
Videos will be uploaded every two weeks focusing on helping students develop their English.

Writing a letter to a friend
Переглядів 1,3 тис.11 місяців тому
A sample answer breakdown of what to include when writing a letter to a friend, with teacher explanation on the right hand side. I read through the letter and explain the various elements that would be expected to be included. The only thing I neglected to include is the addresses, as I have done this in a regular letter writing video, I wanted to focus on content rather than format.

Great video, thank you

This is great!😀
Thank you 😊
Thank you for this video! I am resitting my FS level 2 Reading exam this Wednesday, it will be my third time👀🙈 I haven't got a clue where I am going wrong. My tutor doesn't know either. The first exam was on paper, (I failed by one mark) and then I had to go online for the second... And I have now failed that. Apparently I've got something called 'Slow processing disorder'?? Any advice or tips how to work with this (I'm 58 and i would really like to pass this time...👀🙏🏼🤗)
I would say that focusing your skill development on the elements that repeat themselves might help you. For example identifying language, format and bias are things that can be practiced so you might be able to identify them quicker. For your specific issue try and consider what approach works for you/what strategies work well for you and try to apply them to this situation.
Yoo w i got an exam tommow for english www
Good luck, for gcse english language when you get to language analysis questions remember its more about the quality of and amount you can say about a quote rather than just using lots of quotes and naming techniques, it's depth of analysis that gets you marks - good luck 👍
Which level can is this aimed at please?
Hi, it can be applied to many levels as it's just about how you've shown you've adapted you're writing, I'd say this video is perfect for level 1, for level 2 it'd still be helpful but they'd be expecting you to supplement your writing with appropriate language techniques, hope that helps
This is great support. Thank you. Having taught children for decades I feel so sorry for today's students. Some questions assume these students have maturity of experience. English has become way too academic.
Thanks, teacher ,that was really useful.
You're welcome, thanks for watching 😀
Am writing this afternoon .Hoping to pass
Good luck, hope it goes well 👍
I thought you have to do links to the theme and inference about the piece of writing?
Hi, this is just about how to take apart a quote, in some questions you do have to do this, but this video is just about how to analyse language, thanks for watching
would this advice work for ncfe for example
Hi, yes I think they have the same basic requirements but for some specifics in regards to the exam I would go on he website and look at the pass papers but the skills are similar
Thanks buddy
Thanks for watching
Can you send me the link please
It's in the description but I'll include it here in case you have problems: sites.google.com/view/bookwormteaching/home
I did pass my formal letter, but not informal that's mean I will repeat the year or no ?please can u answer
Hi, if I were your teacher or examiner I would look at what you scored as the score you get for both questions adds up but as I haven't seen this I really can't say. Let's say if you get a high mark for one question and a slightly lower grade for the next, the high score might get you through, but it's impossible for me to say. You'd have to speak to your teacher
Really helpful 😊
Thank you 😊
Thank you very much for ur help❤
You're welcome, thanks for watching 🙂

Best video. Thank you. Using this for my final examination!
You're welcome good luck!
Thank you for doing this vid as I am doing this exam tomorrow. This really helped me. Wish me Luck 🙏
Good luck hope you pass!
i just wanted to know which exam board did you do for fs level 2 English and was the exam hard or easy and when you start revising
I didn’t do GCSE and I’m sitting the real English language exam in 6 weeks. This video helped me alot getting my head around how i must structure my writing. Thank you so much
Thank you, good luck in your exam, remember that if you're doing GCSE English language these techniques are classed as language techniques, structural techniques are something different
Do I fail if I forgot to write yours sincerely
Hi. No I wouldn't have thought so, it's only a small element of the letter, just having a sign off at the end of the letter should be good enough but even better if you can have a sign off in an appropriate tone I.e either formal or informal
I did English GCSE when it was interesting and had some value. I am trying to help my child do these paragraphs, but they are so soul destroying and boring. The required answer is frequently wrong and some children who enjoy literature can't bring themselves to put a stupid answer, what is the solution?
To be honest I've been in the same situation. The paragraph structure in the video is meant as a guide but alot of people who get the highest grade go guideless, they just naturally mention the various elements naturally, which might make it feel less soul destroying and saying the enjoyment out if it. I had to make my own sample questions using texts I knew my students would enjoy, so maybe if your children have some lit they love you could practise exploring the value if specific quotes, breaking them down in terms of language and connotations of words. I'm nit sure if this helps as I don't know the specifics but hope that it has in some small way eased the frustration, I hope the exams haven't put you or your children off English

Sorry mate not sure what you mean hope it's something good and that you enjoyed the video 👍

Do you have any recommendations for taking the Writing Level 1 exam?
I would look at some of my videos on this, as well as check out Write on resources but if I was to break them down in a nutshell, I would say the writing comes down to your ability to adapt your writing for audience and purpose and reading is mostly making sure you don't get confused by the reading of the questions and using correct skimming and scanning techniques to retrieve appropriate information, if that helps?
Recently failed English reading because I didnt "analyse text on different levels of complexity recognising their use of vocabulary and identifying levels of formality and bias" could I get some help there
Sorry to hear that. I don't have anything prepared on that, so I looked on my brother's channel and perhaps this one would be of help as often those topics come up when comparing texts ua-cam.com/video/3SCVQ0UcyT8/v-deo.htmlsi=Ayfwrnk20vMSHOzm
@@bookwormteaching thanks a lot. And BTW I always thought you were the same guy on both accounts. Didn't it was your brother 🤣
This is very helpful , I just did my exam and this video it really helped me a lot , all of these examples were in my exam
Thank you, I'm really glad it helped and I hope you pass your exam 😀
I did, I got 24 marks , the pass mark was 22. That was a mock exam , the real exam will take place on March 😊thank you I really like watching your videos they are very informative and helpful 🙏🏻
The passing mark I think it’s the correct 😅
Is this video applicable tk level 2 functional skills
Hi, Yes this is one of the formats you may be asked to write in the exam for more level 2 FS videos check out write-on-resources
Are images classed as organisational features? In articles for example. Thanks
Hi, Yes they are, I believe even the captions underneath would be classed as an organisational feature. Thanks for the great question and sorry if I neglected to mention images in the video. Thanks for watching 😀
@@bookwormteaching thank you. I used it in my actual test yesterday and have been doubting myself since then 🤣 thank you!
Very informative, thank you.
Thanks for watching 😀

I did my reading exam yesterday. Monday I have my writing exam. I am watching all topics related to writing .
Thats great good luck with the writing just make sure you adapt to meet the purpose and format they ask you to and you'll be fine 🙂
Hi Sir, Tomorrow is my reading exam .I am so scared because my first language is not English.
Hi, for years I taught students in the exact same position as you, many of those students experienced nerves but as long as you read the questions fully, and manage your time you will do well. Even if you didn't pass the first time FS is set up so students can take multiple attempts of an exam within a space of a year. Just try to stay calm and take your time, many students find the reading exam alot easier than they thought and perhaps you will too, good luck, I hope it goes well 😀
wheres the link for the downloads? its not in the desc
Hi, I think it might be on my TES account and the link should be on my home page
Hi,sir Gid it me lucky
