Good Grief with Dr. Ajita Robinson
Ever wondered how grief can shape our lives, even when we try to avoid it? In this episode of The Unfolding: Presented by The Loveland Foundation Podcast, host Rachel Keener sits down with grief and trauma therapist Dr. Ajita Robinson to explore the depths of grief and how to find meaning in loss.
Dr. Robinson shares her own journey into grief work, revealing how she initially shied away from it before realizing that her unresolved grief was hindering her own healing. They delve into the different types of grief, extending beyond just death, and how grief is a lifelong process that doesn't neatly fit into a timeline.
Dr. Robinson emphasizes the importance of honoring grief, finding meaning in loss, and the powerful connection between grief and gratitude. She offers valuable guidance on supporting those who are grieving, both immediately and in the long term, as well as self-care strategies for navigating the grieving process.

So relaxing and rejuvenating ❤
Beautiful ladies, affirming and honest presentation! Thank you!
@@jeansteverson8676 Thank you so much for watching!
❤
This is such a great and much needed conversation. I’m learning so much about how grief shows its face and how to be more compassionate. Thank you!
@@s28333 Thank you for watching! It’s an honor to hold space for these conversations.
Learning this right now in therapy and LIFE... better late than never. Bless. 👑💛🙏🏽
I do this organically... a disconnected version of it... not in completion like the defined instructive here... more of a self-explored, self-healing, self-defending, laymen version of it... 🤷🏽♀️🤭. Either way, thanks for this. Good stuff. 👍🏽🙏🏽
Thank you for holding space for us!
Thank you so much for watching!
That was great! Thank you
Thank you so much!
24:17 Been there done that... stopped doing it, soon out the gate... TOO MUCH WORK 😩😖
2:47 YUP! I've experienced CONSTANT ridicule in the past, when I decided to refrain from masking... I had to stay strong to remain unmasked... it evokes an emotional response in others around you that can be extremely suffocating and overwhelming 😩 however, NEVER your responsibility to manage FOR them. 🤷🏽♀️
This is an amazing conversation listening as a young black man we need this as well.
45:12 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
42:53 'Co-creation with the ancestors'... wow... that's beautiful... ❤
22:56 Because generally we don't have an 'official diagnosis'... THAT is your 'protection' in this society... unfortunately, historically it's been taboo to us ... a lot of us are juuuuust beginning to see how this works in 'their' favor and how we have to learn 'their language' and what they 'understand/respect' so we can have the same protections, respect, benefits, advantages. Bottom line: If you have a current diagnosis, are attempting to manage it and someone wrongfully hurts you... they are FAR MORE LIKELY to be held accountable. We just don't realize THIS is the solution to the 'protection' equation. Lastly, (in my mind and based on MY personal life experiences) 90% or more of us, as human beings, could be served by some level of diagnosis and/or medication and/or therapy. Self care is not limited to haircuts/salon visits every Saturday, fresh manicures, pedicures, facials, etc. I am a firm believer, our hearts (emotional health) and minds (mental health) require regular maintenance as well... 🙏🏽
8:42 I would venture to say... whoever is on the receiving end of rage... is not likely the culprit of the "rage seed"... I grew up in high-crime environments and I always knew this... it's like the degrading headlines in the media... the incident was the result of an argument stemming from 'a piece of cake', 'a dime', etc. So demeaning... and they got away with it... because I believe we are/have been conditioned to be ashamed of a rage we have MORE than every right to feel, address, show, discuss, understand, process. However, I do believe, it IS also our responsibility to process our rage responsibly 🤷🏽♀️... easier said than done under some circumstances however, that's why support systems / groups are paramount. 💯
Thank you for this 👑💛🙏🏽
Thank you so much for sharing!!! ❤
I really enjoyed this conversation and learned so much! Thank you!
