How to Make Potato Salad with Warm Bacon Dressing
I am using this recipe today on a fresh ham that bought this summer. I hope it comes out okay...this video surely makes me hungry! The sides are baked sweet potatoes and a pineapple salad made with cheddar cheese. I will update you later.
Love watching your videos. You remind me so much of my relatives. Adding to the found memory when spending time with them.
You made the best video on how to cook the bone in ham I have seen on UA-cam channels. I am a single older man and this year I wanted to see if I could cook a bone in ham I have never before tried to cook one. I am going to try and do just like your directions to see if mine will turn out as great as yours did. Thanks for showing others how to make a good delicious ham.
How many potatoes did you figure for this dish?
Depends on the size of dish and potatoes. I would lay the whole potatoes out in the Pan before I start slicing. One layer of whole potatoes, once sliced will leave room for the other ingredients.
I’m making pulled toffee, French people call it tamarin. A Christmas tradition. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I enjoyed your tips.❤
@@edithdoyle9795 merry Christmas to you too.
Loved watching your video. Heard a dog shaking it's collar, what kind of dog?
@@kevinfeuerhammer9017 she was a border collie/lab cross. Sadly, she has passed now, but she is featured in several of my other videos.
Awesome, ours came out fantastic, thank you
Enjoyed watching your segment. I have been making Vinarterta for a number of years but still got some good tips from watching you. Lovely job.
In Europe all most all shanks and others cuts are NOT cooked and comes sort of an off tan or brown color. That’s because that’s the real color of pork or pig, pig is not pink. The meat is not pink. It’s pink because they inject a chemical in it to make it visually appealing, and this chemical (nitrates ) causes cancer. The food giants claim that people would not eat it if it was not pink, for example when you buy pork chops, they should not be pink. There should be a little red in them and when you cook them, they’re not pink either. It’s only these types that you have in this video and lunch meat ham, ham steaks ect. that is extremely pink and that is very unhealthy for you and causes cancer.
At the tender age of 47, I will be cooking my 1st ham ... for Thanksgiving 🤗 I'm excited and nervous but your video has been the best by far on how to boil & roast a ham. Thank you so much, I will be following your recipe.
I truly enjoyed listening to you and watching you. Those look like the old traditional type of date bars. Thanks for sharing!👩🍳

Hi Im so happy for your channel...before the video started I subscribe and download your recipie ...thankyou greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦🌼🌻👌🤗
This cake is so good it’s like a Nordic version of cinnamon buns
Great thank you
Morning Ellen lass. Anyone who doesn't like *HAGGIS, Tatties and Neaps, is an UNCULTURED HEATHEN!*
Wouldn’t it make more sense to stack the bread and remove all the crusts before filling? That way you’re not forcing filling out when you cut!! Also, always chill the bread prior to usage. You want it hardened not soft so it will cut easier.
Is there a printed version of this recipe with the method?
The recipe is in the description
Thank you for letting me know the secrets of ham cooking. Thank Ellien for your video too. v
I was just talking to a friend about this! My grandmother made this throughout the blueberry season. We would go out into the woods and pick an ice cream container full of berries and then she would make this desert for us. Grampie would have his with ice cream and I'd have mine with whipped cream. We lived in New Brunswick but now that I live in Nova Scotia and both of my Grandparents have passed so I haven't had this in about 10 years. Thank you for this. Can't wait to try and see if I can come close to how good grammies was...
Hope you enjoy it.
I like to see this kind of stuff.
Thank you for this... from Florida, USA
Hope you enjoy it
Hi Ellen, Happy Easter. I watched ur ham recipe. Now I’m watching ur brownie recipe, and I think it’s the recipe I have been looking for. I’ve wanted a dense brownie. So, I will try this soon, and let u know. I will use less sugar, because I prefer the taste of butter first. Many ppl like tasting sugar first, but this will be interesting to see how these work out. 👍 I don’t ice them either, I add the walnuts on top. A famous baker in NYC did them that way. I’m trying to find his recipe, and I think I have here. 👍👍
Part of the moistness in those brownies is that the icing melts and seeps into the spaces between each brownie. It might work with some slightly melted nut butter with cocoa powder added.
I have my ham boiling in the pot now,a little later on it will be in the oven with a glaze on it,this is the way my mom cooked it
Happy Easter
@@EllenBennettHilltopStovetop Same to u dear god bless
Thank you my mom made it like this .I was trying to find the recipe
I hope it brings back lots of good memories.
Organic butter at room temperature will spread easily. The olive oil changes the taste of the butter.
Good to know!
I am soooo hoping that this is the recipe that my grandmother and her cousin made every Christmas from my earliest memories and probably way before I was born‼️‼️ I've been trying for many years to get the recipe from my aunt who hasn't been able to locate it. I very much want to get this tradition going again with my own grandchildren❣️💜❤️🧡💙🍬 Thank you for sharing this video❤‼️ I also really enjoyed watching you share the process with your young guys; I can just see them as older men teaching future generations‼️‼️😃
I hope it works out for you. Sharing old recipes for future generations is why I produced these videos
❤❤❤
So many great ideas
You lost me when you put MIRACLE WHIP in all of your mixtures……big difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip…yuck!!!
I agree, big difference. I find mayo a bit bland.
Add boiled eggs. Perfection.
I think miracle whip is disgusting. You can add things to mayo to enhance flavor. But you can’t undo that ultra sweetness of miracle whip.
What do you do with the pot of delicious liquor? Seems like a waste not to use
If it doesn't taste too salty you could use it as a soup base, just take the fat off.
@@EllenBennettHilltopStovetop Thank you, the verdict is split. So many people say to throw it away. But yes, it probably would taste great with Soup.
Thanks
You have a calm presence in front of the camera. Thankyou for this awesome recipie. Subbed.
Fantastic ham but your background music is to loud for us who are hard of hearing
Glad you enjoyed the ham. We did fix the music volume on subsequent videos. Thanks
Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it.
How long do we boil or simmer
About 2 hours for the size of ham I used.
Thank you so much 🙏🏽, my Amma ❤️
Merry Christmas
I am so glad I found your post Ellen, great tutorial. I am attending a Christmas Tea this week, and all the ladies are dividing the sandwich responsibilities. I made a delicious herb spread for CUCUMBER SANDWICHES. Leftover spread will make a yummy vegetable dip.
Sounds delicious
We have had Miracle Whip in the States for ever. It's called salad dressing on the jar. The light version is horrible.
I agree. The light version isn't worth the effort to open the jar.
I made this a couple days ago (for the first time) and now UA-cam suggests your video to me. It's as if Google knows what I'm doing. Strange! Well, I used tomato pasta sauce instead of tomato soup. I think I'll try your idea of mushroom soup next time so that I can use my cast iron cookware.
It is such a great cold weather meal.
It cannot be Scottish. We spell WHISKY - never an "e" in Scottish Whisky - if it has an "e" it is Irish - look at the bottles in your store or bar!
We'll blame my Canadian autocorrect. Even though I used canned haggis, I would never use anything but proper WHISKY.🙂
My mom used to make this! I have the recipe but haven't made it myself. I didn't see how mom made it. I gotta craving for it. It's sooo good!😋 At the end of watching this, my mouth was watering🤤🥰
It's worth the effort
My mom made it for years. Very rich but good
Always a Christmas treat.
Thanks for keeping my babas memory close to my heart.
Grandma's recipes are always the best
Thanks for sharing this. What you did here is a dying art. I hope to be able to learn it. Thanks again! Just outside of Winnipeg.
Yum!
Great video! Exactly what I was looking for. Your kitchen reminds me of home. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it
😂😂😂 I thought that was a little strange but with the brown auger I figured it would counter balance. Mine turned out great but only used about a cup of white vinegar.
Trust me, it is better with cider😉
Enjoyed your video. Great explanations. I usually boil my ham never with apple cider vinegar. Trying it now
Not apple cider vinegar... real apple cider. The drinking kind. Big difference.
