How To Test For Soil Nutrients - MySoil Test Kit
This video, shows how I used the MySoil test kit to put together a soil sample. Get it prepared, mailed out and WHY it's important to get a nutrient test done.
Understanding, what nutrients your soil is lacking as well as what it already has. Is the MOST important thing you can do, to help yourself put together a plan for your annual lawn care program.
This video is, in a way, is a follow up to the soil composition video I did previously,
ua-cam.com/video/8MYHWRG7OgQ/v-deo.html
They both go hand in hand in helping you understanding YOUR DIRT! So that you can make intelligent decisions on caring for it, so in turn, your soil will grow great grass or vegetables or whatever it is that you grow!
I hope you took something away from this & learned something new!
As Always,
Thank you for watching!

Getting Started In Composting - Keep It Simple!
Переглядів 494 роки тому
Today, I'm starting a compost pile and sharing what I've learned so far with you! I've never composted before. It's something I'm interested in and I like the idea of putting my lawn waste to work. For me! This past year, our family started a garden and a pumpkin patch. I think it would be very rewarding for us to be able to use the fallen leaves of fall. Plus the grass clippings I acquire thro...

Pressure Washing & Sealing My Mailbox Post
Переглядів 2,1 тис.4 роки тому
I finally got around to pressure washing and sealing my mailbox post! I wanted to wait for the wood to fully dry out so I could be sure that the post would soak in the the sealing product. I used a 2 gallon pump sprayer, that came with both a fan tip and mist nozzle. In retrospect I would have done better with the mist nozzle and put a MUCH lighter coat of sealer on the mailbox post. WARNING!!!...

I wanna find out. CAN I SAVE TIME!? Spreading peat with this DIY peat moss spreader. A few weeks ago I was browsing the Lawncare Sub-Reddit and stumbled across this topic. Low Budget Grass Seed Cover
Переглядів 1,6 тис.4 роки тому
Providing a cover for your grass seed is, in my opinion. One of the most important things you can do for grass seed during germination. I planned to fertilize and condition the soil, but pivoted and decided it was more important for me to get a seed cover down on the bare spots in my lawn. Typically peat moss would be the ideal seed cover but I wanted to test out a theory that I had. So I used ...

Really wish I saw this yesterday! I attempted making my own rotary sifter, what a pain in the butt!!!!! Wasted all day making it “perfect” by the time I took it outside it was almost dark and I lost a freakin wheel…. So now I’m thinking this is a better idea BUT I’m going to put big wheels on it lol. I think my favorite thing to do to myself is “make something to save time and money” then I end up wasting time and money in the process 😅

Is there a maximum of humic acid that I can put onto my tall fescue lawn in a transition area? It's a summer and where I live the temperatures can get up to 100° or 110. I would love to put it down weekly but it worries me.

You could have just drilled holes in the tote and not used a screen at all. Could also have used the plastic garbage can: drill holes in the cylinder and then roll the can with the peat inside. Could also borrow a grocery cart from supermarket. Dump the peat in and roll the cart along.

Guy in my neighborhood did almost the same thing but put it in a wooden frame with wheels and tows it around his yard with his lawn mower, the bumps in the yard “shake” the compost out.

I have those exact containers to store tools and other stuff in my garage. I can imagine that a good amount of the peat moss ended up in your boots. I have spread it via shovel and it is slow going. I just might try this! Thanks buddy.

Thats looks like really hard work. So how about a rig on wheels? some sort of garden cart, put a mesh in the bottom and perhaps you can just pull it around on the lawn and let the natural vibrations shake it out? IT would also allow you to load up a full bale at a time, I think?

  • @skullbreakgaming

wow I am impressed with this. And it made me think of how I can do it easier.. wheels were spinning.. and guess what? Wouldn't be hard to borrow a shopping cart from a local store.. that thing should naturally rattle on a lawn.. i mean some of them frankly rattle on a smooth floor anyways.. im really curious if it will work. LOL

I was able to make the same peat moss spreader you did, but I added some wheels. I ran a 3/8 inch threaded metal rod ($4), bought some cheap plastic lawn mower wheels with at least 3/8 inch holes. And added two 3/8 inch nuts on the ends to cap off the axels. I’m currently trying to fix up a handle to pull it by. It rolls easy!!

wheels both on the front and back and incorporate a vibration system to ensure you get an even spread. I would also mix the peat moss with seeds and use it to re-seed... Make it so it is only about five/six inches above the ground. Or in place of a vibration system; put a handle to push, stop, pull, push and continue with this method for an even spread...

I made this spreader over the weekend. Gave it a try for my overseed project. Not bad, only did 1 bale, using about 1/4 of the bale at a time. It was a little windy, but worked well enough. If I had to do 10+ bales, I'd buy the roller. But for the spot areas I was doing it was great. Going to use it at a friend house for his renovation, I'll let him do this part.

Put wheels on it by finding a rod to use as an axle, run it through the box lengthwise. Find some cheap wheels, attach them. Then McGyver something for a handle. You can then push it a ways, stop suddenly, back up a bit and repeat until you've spread the load. Possible alternative to stopping is to add "bumps" to the wheels so it thumps and causes release. ?

    • @angusmacduff3471
      @angusmacduff3471 2 роки тому

That's what I would do - but I would cut off some of one wheel so that when you tow it behind the mower it would bounce a little to shake the peat out. I think that it would be great for worm castings with a 1/8" hardware cloth.
