How much paint should you use on your Gelli Plate?
Переглядів 4,4 тис.8 місяців тому
Are you having trouble getting your Gelli Plate to behave correctly? It may be that you haven't mastered how much paint to use. This video will show you what happens if you use too little, too much or just the right amount of paint. It will help you to trouble shoot your own practise and recognise what little tweaks you can make to improve how your gelli plate prints.

    I’m guessing that if you’re using rice papers or fine paper, which can be very transparent, painting the background first would show through and change the colour of the papers especially if you want a coloured background?

  • @sherryleggett1612
    @sherryleggett1612 2 місяці тому

    Why would you not paint the background first so it isn’t so finicky afterwards? I would love to see a video of you making the collage. I hope you will be making more videos soon, I’m a new subscriber.

    Humidity in the environment affects how much paint you need. I lived in a damp region and always struggled with underlying layers of paint attaching to the plate as I pulled the print off which would end up with my paper adhering to the gel plate. I finally reduced the amount of paint to the thin coating as in your first example and I was totally successful. I then moved to a desert region with very low humidity, and like your first example, couldn't get the print to transfer because the paint had dried.

    I love this. I have done it on flat cardboard but I never thought to use it on a glad wrap tube! Your prints came out beautifully.

    I love the idea of using guoche bc I have lots of it and your paper towel roller is wonderful. I don’t like gloves either so I’d purchase a dowel cut a little longer than rollers so you have a “handle” to roll it along without getting dirty hands. You’ll only need one for all rollers

    • @leannedaquinoart
