Thanks for documenting this and posting. At least it’s cool to see the T-72 in motion (even though not under its own power). Glad you shared it. We said our final goodbyes at the museum about a month before this. It was great while it lasted.

I am no towing expert. but would it not been easier to just pull the flatbed infront of the tank? instead of pulling a tank sideways.

I spent over a year in Orange County building the first two prototypes. It used twin 40mm Bofors cannons (145 rds per min each) computer controlled aiming and ammo selection (proximity, armor piercing or frag). It could hit targets up to four miles away. BUT the Russians soon developed A/T missiles that were good for 6 miles distance. Result is after 145 units produced it became obsolete and was retired. As a side note they probably would have been very effective against the drones that are now being used in modern warfare. Like the German Gephart used in Ukraine but with a greater range.

I visited the Museum twice and really enjoyed it, sad to see it go.

Only visited once and just found out about this. I was planning on visiting before Christmas, if I knew the museum was shutting down I would have rushed to visit them. Sad to see it all go but glad I got to see it.

You are awesome for being there to document this tanks goodbye! It’s such a shame that an amazing tank safe haven here in Virginia is being taken from us, but these vehicles will live on in other places. I hope to see them in their new homes one day.

Truly is heartbreaking to see the museum close. Been a regular since 2010 and this place really established my passion for history.
