WORTH IT?? | Quick film on Bauer's Radar Gun

Bauer's Radar Gun. Very cool toy I'd say. Practical? Idk. Pricy? In my opinion, yes...It is radar gun after all so of course you have to pay up, but in a hockey context it's not worth it. It's more of a novelty. You'll like it for a few days then forget about it. I'm going to leave it with my hockey stuff though so I can always see it and play around with it.

    Good review really looking at making the switch from Bauer to true and most likely true customs. I’m so hesitant to get the svh right now bc I’m afraid they’re gonna release something for 2025. I would like to have a set of customs for both roller and ice but dang man a grand???? Kinda steep for any piece of hockey equipment…. I wanted to go try on 9x4 or 7x4 but I live in Florida and the nearest pure hockey doesn’t even have them thats a 2 hour trip the other one is 3 hours. So that’s why I’m hesitant I can’t even try on a base model What else can you say about true? Obviously it seems you would recommend customs (really on the fence haha)

    • @TonyHockey
      @TonyHockey Місяць тому

      Yea that's tough, a grand is pretty steep but it's almost the same as custom Bauers. But if you get custom Trues you'll love it. They'll remain stiff for so long and the 3D fit with True skates are phenomenal. Zero dead space, complete wrapped fit, I can wear them all day. Even the stock skates 9x4 and such they're really good too. I've got wide feet tho so I only have experience from customs but everyone who I talk to loves the trues if they're the fit.

    Quick question. How much do they cost and are they worth the price?

    • @TonyHockey
      @TonyHockey 3 місяці тому

      Might vary from store to store but the shop I got it from is selling it for $149 so it's going to be around there. That's when it's singled out tho if you buy it with skates it's probably included or a lot cheaper. Are they worth the price? For 149 I'm gonna say no, if it was half of that and I was getting it with skates then yea. But short answer, if you hold me if I want my current tongues or spend around 149 for those I'd say I'll pass.

    Hey Tony, much appreciated video! A few questions: Are the Hoapa blades standard or tapered? Do you know much about Hoapa's shafts? Is their Hydrogen shaft their top of the line lightest shaft option? Or are most of their shafts pretty much the same? Any thoughts on the Hydrogen shaft vs the Coast to Coast SC2 mid kick shaft? How's the power/kick on it? What's your flex and kick (mid/low)? Do you think you should you have gone stiffer or whippier?

    • @TonyHockey
      @TonyHockey 6 місяців тому

      Thank you David! Appreciate the support. The Hoapa Blades and shafts are all tapered. I don’t know as much on the HOAPAs compared to other retail sticks like Bauer and CCM, but I believe the Hydrogen is one of their higher end stick options. “Flagship option for 2023” as they said. With that being said, I feel like all shafts are almost the same. Hydrogen is the lightest, origin has the nice wood touch, and pretty much anything after that looks the same to me. They don’t make it clear or completely different stick options like the other companies (Bauer Vapor vs Bauer Nexus). For the hydrogen VS CTC Mid kick I still love both and use it for different purposes. I’m in quite a few different ball hockey groups so in the lower skilled groups I use CTC, and Hoapa for the higher skill (cause lighter and better shaft). Because 1, I don’t want to completely wear through my HOAPAs that fast (they don’t last long outside) and 2 the CTC 2 piece is still a great option and way cheaper, especially in the long run when having to replace the blades. CTC: Mid Kick 85 Flex Hoapa: Low Kick 90 Flex Hoapa definitely feels way nicer to shoot, you can actually feel the pop! The CTC is still good but it feels like a “bland” shaft without any “cool features”. But then again for ball hockey the ball is light enough already and most people can fire a ball pretty good no matter the stick. I love my specs on my Hoapa but definitely could have gone to a 75 flex on the CTC to feel more flex/pop on the shaft. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else!

    • @davidbui2255
      @davidbui2255 6 місяців тому

      @@TonyHockey Thanks Tony. I actually love my C2C shaft and I find it has amazing pop on it with my 85 and 95 flexes. I just grabbed a Hydrogen in 105 flex and I'll see how it compares! I know their shaft is tapered, but I'm curious if a a c2c blade would fit if I grabbed the midkick hoapa shaft... also: Compared to the pro carbon blade from coast to coast, how do you think they stack up against each other in terms of performance and durability? Which blade do you think is stiffer? Thanks!

    • @TonyHockey
      @TonyHockey 6 місяців тому

      @@davidbui2255 awesome! Both mid and low kicks will be tapered tho, can't fit CTC blades in there. Between the PRO Carbon and the Hoapa ODR blades, CTC is wayy more durable, and the CTC will also remain stiff for its entire life where as the hoapas lose its stiffness after you reach the line. Both are equally stiff but yea, CTC will remain stiffer for way longer.

    Just getting into street hockey, how often do you retape your sticks? Everytime I play I feel the bottom of my blade is always gettin messed up which I know is probably normal so I retape everytime I play. I also am using an ice hockey stick though which probably isn’t meant for street hockey

    • @TonyHockey
      @TonyHockey 6 місяців тому

      Yeah Tape won't do much at all to help protect the stick, tape makes it feel grippy too on the concrete which makes it harder to stick handle. ABS blades or the wraparound is the way to go. If you're looking for a good outdoor option for ball hockey, Coast Hockey shop has great options with many different curves and shafts available. If you're just looking to train in the offseason outside then the wraparound is your go to. Lmk if you have any more questions!

    As the other comments on this video have said, this is NOT a Hockey Stop, this is a Power Slide. 2 foot stop aka Hockey Stop is a completely different ball game. This is good for beginners. But if you play both ice and roller, it is better to get used to a roller hockey stop so you get used to stopping the same way.

    • @TonyHockey
      @TonyHockey 7 місяців тому

      Way better than the missions… but that being said it’s a fully custom skate vs a mid range level skate. The weight I’m not sure but custom true skates feel very heavy on the hands, but light on feet. It’s cause there’s zero dead space when your foot is inside so it feels like just an extension of your foot

    It's about time. I have the R1's and the H5-T8's which supposed to have the most rocker feel simply isn't good enough. I don't feel no rocker especially if you tighten the middle screw. You don't feel the rocker at all. This better help at least.

    • @TonyHockey
      @TonyHockey 8 місяців тому

      If you're comparing the rocker feel to the O1s, then the R1s will definitely feel more stiff. Instead of tightening the middle screw, try loosening a little bit, that could help add more rocker. As for the new inserts, they're going to feel stiffer than the H5-T8 rocker.

    Semantical.... But this is what I've always known as a power slide. A hockey stop would be the two parallel edges you do at the end. Hockey stop looking easier but being much harder to do as your centre of gravity is much higher. Both are good to know and power side as shown above should be first.

    • @TonyHockey

      @@xGentenaar awesome! Yeah I personally use softer wheels for my weight too, but it is going to be harder to learn the stop cause there's less give. 82A sounds perfect for you tho for learning the stop and just overall usage, and generally the harder the wheels are the more durable they are.

      depends on the surface. the stuff hes on right now looks atrocious. im 190lbs and prefer 78a even outdoors. harder wheels have no grip, softer wheels break. but were playing on very smooth cement, not this asphalt stuff.
