I'm a long distance hiker and backpacker who moved to Colorado after hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2019. In 2022, I finished my second long distance hike, the Continental Divide Trail. I'm currently releasing a series of vlogs about my trip, so subscribe to stay up to date as they're released! You can also find me on instagram @elise.ott for updates.
Teton Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Backpacking Beautiful Wyoming Mountains
Chaunce and I take on the Teton Crest Trail in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming! We had some hiccups getting there, but the hike was absolutely amazing. I think the Teton Crest Trail is one of the BEST short thru-hikes you can do. I got permits in January (so if you have this on the list, mark your calendars) and we hiked in late July! The Tetons are absolutely gorgeous, route finding was easy and straightforward, the hiking was chill, and the wild life was awesome. We dealt with some bugs and one sketchy snow traverse (watch to see what happens)!

100 Beautiful and Brutal miles: Backpacking the Wind River High Route
Переглядів 4,9 тис.3 місяці тому
The Wind River High Route is a thru-hike that’s been on my list since I first heard of its existence in 2020. There are two common versions - Alan Dixon’s and Andrew Skurka’s. This Wind River High Route recap almost exclusively follows the Andrew Skurka version. It’s 97 miles from Trail Lakes Trailhead to Bruce’s Bridge - 65 of those miles are off trail. There is 30,000 feet of elevation gain w...

Colorado's Best Fly Fishing: Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
Переглядів 8 тис.5 місяців тому
Josh and I returned to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado to fly fish on the Gunnison River. The Gold Metal Waters are filled with wild trout and the stunning canyon walls make for the best fly fishing back drop we could ask for. This is our second time at this world-class fly fishing destination, but you don't get to fish without putting in a lot of effort to descend into t...

Lose 5 lbs right before the hike😂 here's your free 5 lbs🎉 Alternatively cold soak, eat grass, sleep on the ground and yes! The big one: ditch band aids😂 really??? There is really not many ways. You cut into your safety or comfort. Lift heavy - travel happy
eat grass?! that sounds awful 🤣. and yeah, you cut into your comfort to be more comfortable, everything is a trade off. The good news is we all get to do whatever we want!
Love your videos!
thank you so much!
Dollar tree has huggies baby wipes in like 25 count packs for 1.25 i get those for hikes i highly recommend
I follow a lot of PCT hikers every year. A few good ones do almost daily vlogs. I don't see that with CDT. My impression of the CDT is 3000 miles of Desolation. I'm guessing town stops may be once/twice a month. Probably zero trail magic, and random hitches or even car pass by is rare. So, is it more scenic than PCT? I also get a sense of claustrophobia like the trail is a continuous trench with east and west on either side. It doesn't seem enjoyable unless you hike 16 hrs a day and eat cold soaked oatmeal every day. Tell me I'm wrong.
@@trexinvert wrong in some ways right in others! I think daily vlog editing is really hard to do on any trail because of the time commitment and I’m picky about how I edit things together - much prefer doing it on a computer rather than a phone. I think there are just a lot less hikers on the CDT and that’s why you don’t see as many vlogs (also not as many people know about it so the algorithm doesn’t push it out as much maybe). CDT is definitely a lot less populated and way more “out there” than the PCT. Towns are farther apart but you can definitely still stop at least once a week (much more if you want in certain sections like central Colorado). You are correct about there being very little trail magic. Hitches were mostly fine except a few spots! Some sections (like lots of New Mexico) are not as scenic as the PCT. The rest is awesome and very scenic. I’d say the trail is more of a continuous ridge (riding the spine of the divide) than a trench). It’s certainly much more difficult hiking than the PCT and requires some long days. I have a video series of my hike If you are interested in seeing more of what the day to day is like!
love the video, Sauce! the fastest 50min watch of my life. sooo incredibly informative. I really like the trail towns and PCT comparison sections, as well as your logical approach to handling on-trail challenges #CDT2026!! -Donks
thanks so much!! WOOHOOOO! hope prep is going well!
Good vid. I am now a chair guy now. Butt cannot tolerate logs or rocks anymore.
That's fair! Thanks for watching!
Heck yeah! Distance AND elevation!
The double whammy!
Crazy distance. Great job.
Thank you!!
good job
Thank you! 😊
Met Josh down there this weekend! Maybe we’ll see you down there next time Elise!
That's awesome!! He is so obsessed I'm sure we will be back many times (and I love it too haha)
Dollar tree knife the mini scissors are in the Dollar tree medical kit
Bamboo toothbrush or take a metal straw and brush head for the straw
Go ahead and get the travel tooth paste the tablets suck...
Travel bottle or sample size for soap or sheet soap or wet wipes, hand sanitizer
Cooking gloves latex or non latex instead of bread bags for hands or just carry gloves or socks...bread bags for feet yes
Dollar tree wash cloth super light no need for bandanas and you can keep it in mesh pocket
I take a camp towel because I can also use it as a heat barrier between me and the ground at night...it also is gritty so less slippery
I put blistex in mine and tweezer I think
Dollar tree med kit has everything
I do the poncho to
I bought a shovel from dollar tree that's big in size but super light they put them out in spring it can attach to a broom handle...so walking stick plus...
I also carry a hand crank flashlight from dollar tree so Incase I don't have any batteries...or no way to recharge
I buy dollar headlamps that take those flat batteries and they our super light one small container from dollar tree carries like 5
Nobody takes books it's called a Kindle app
They make hiking Crocs
Wallet app for phone and also gift card instead of cash
I only use one stuff sack for my clothes
The stuff sack takes the air and water out making things lighter
I wanna try filling the blowup pillow with helium to see if it effects the weight of my pack... also a blow up pillow isn't that much weight... when empty
People only smell because they don't bring deodorant... Bring a small travel size deodorant or body spray...
sorry late question? you and I are similar size 5'8" 150lb I think you said? what size were the dollar general leggings you got??
yes! that's about what I am, the leggings are a size large!
I think that if you don't have a trowel holes ararely really 8-inch deep and you just cheat. Prove me wrong.
I do think it's really hard to get a good hole without a trowel.
Sorry, but the tan line 18:27 had me die laughing! I have similar ones on my thighs from kayaking! but man, your face and hands are just intense!!!
haha I KNOW!!! I'm trying to be better in the future, it got out of hand
I did the Alan Dixon route a couple years back and want to go back to do this Skurka route. Such a beautiful place. Great video
that's awesome! I want to check out the parts that differ! Thanks for watching!
Great video, Elise. Enjoyed the recap with Chaunce on BPR. Hope to get around to this trail eventually thanks to y'all. Cheers!
thanks so much! it's a great one to get on the list!
This has been up for two weeks? No notifications? Curse the internet gods!! It made my day today, though.
lame youtube!! thanks for watching :)
I love your Melanzana and I’m from Leadville good work keep it up
the one i'm wearing in this is actually a Sam bob! I do love both! thank you!
I thought you said to stuff my puppy. Now, that’s a silly thing.
Thanks for all the tips. I didn't read the comments so I don't know if anyone mentioned this but I like portawipes instead of baby wipes. They are so compact and take very little water to expand.
probably safe yourself a lot of time and energy not reading them haha. I have throught about using the dehydrated ones, just harder to find in grocery stores! thank you for the rec though!
“I felt way better” as you choke 😂 👏👏 you’re killing it, keep it up!
@@TheFinFitLifeLady the dry air really gets me after a long run 😂 thank you!
Killing it Sos! And yay for Josh having your back!
he is the best support! thank you!
1. Very important item…maybe #1. An accurate scale, postage or kitchen. Know what everything weighs. Nothing is weightless except knowledge. 2. Learn how to do without. 3. Use a bidet instead of TP. 4. The smallest Swiss Army Knife has a great selection of essential tools. The tweezers are the shape recommended by experts for safe tick removal. The blade is big enough for anything you will actually need it for. The scissors will cut tape., patches or aluminum cans…to make an efficient alcohol stove like Fuzzy’s Li’lStove when your heavy high-tech stove fails. 5. Leave the “what iffs” at home; they alwats add unnecessary weight.
Atom Packs Prospector(Mo) is my new choice for heavy carries. I used the Arc Blast for years but it’s got more than 4,000 miles on it so it’s ready to retire haha
I love when you can retire a piece of gear because it was used to it's fullest capacity (and that capacity is quite far)!
So beautiful... what month was this?
July!
Nice to see a Women Angler YT channel
Thanks! hoping to keep making more fishing videos!
You weren't supposed to put this on UA-cam.
you don't have to watch!
I have a 2015 Forested. Its supposed to go 5000 (I believe) before an oil change but I find you need to start adding oil around 3000. Its a known problem so watch out for that. Also had the transmission issue you talked about on BPR. Glad y'all rallied for an awesome trip! TCT is on my short list.
yep! we added some oil (I can't remember if I mentioned that) and it was fine after that. The combo of that and my gas gauge I think being semi-off from the heat? going uphill? not sure..but the combo was what did me in haha. and yeah that transmission issue is a real treat huh? Hope you get to go and enjoy!
wait it’s “Teeton” and not “Tehton” !?
honestly i'm not sure, i took spanish not french haha but i've always heard "Teeton"
Wow, I ate 2nd breakfast on that rock by the deer at the lake below Switchback Pass. Cool!
nice!! funny how the best break spots just tend to get congregated at.
