Why isn’t the side view lined up in the center
@@falontrinetti5560 FOT stands for flat on top or some might say front flat or even straight on one side. But you’re right most are on center.
Very well explained. Was very useful. Thank you so much 👍
@@assammagnet5082 thank you!
At 5.00 what prevents the yellow steel bar from shifting away when the side is folded against it?

how would you do it without the Magnabender?
I’d have to do it in 3 pieces :(

Teacher, how long have you been in the trade?
@@SHINBI102 seems like yesterday I was starting out at our trade school. 17 years on tools and 23 teaching.
Hey I have that same blue shirt!!!
@@ryanKeenN lol, I bet we also have red and green snips.
So for a round to rectangle, just make the 2 opposite sides longer ?
Nice job
Brilliant explanation! Much appreciated!🙏🏿
@@sinironheart8413 thank you!
Thank you for this amazing video. Question, what's the thickness of the sheet metal and what kind of metal is it? Thank you in advance
@@perustark3274 24 gage and I used what we call satin coat galvanized.
sir can you make rectangle to round, example is 350x150 height is 200 diameter is 150. please use 4 sides, 1 piece each sides separate.
so it will become 4 seams each side
I think your content should replace our apprenticeship teacher. You far more clear, concise, and don’t rush like we already know how to do it. Thank you
@@nickitsnotcj Hello Chris, I’m happy that you find my videos helpful which take time to put together. To be honest, It happens that I also need to rush through classroom theory or shop fabrication. That’s the reason I started this channel and wished I had a demo vid for every concept or skill. Thanks for adding a comment.

Hi Duane!! Do you offer custom fabrications for customers? I need a custom piece made and none of the local hvac companies will make it! I don't know why this is so hard to get made!
I came here to see if this was something I could fabricate for myself for my laundry chute because none of the local hvac companies will fabricate one for me. Though after watching your video, it is clear that I am out of my depth in creating this for myself, this was so fascinating and satisfying to watch! I could watch you create this stuff all day. So relaxing.
Is it all the same for let’s say a square elbow 60° with a 6/10 throat.
@@armandoguerra8448 all 60s, yes it would, the longer the throat, the shorter the in between duct will be.
Nice these are good examples. Can you do it with just math using a calculator.
@@armandoguerra8448 yes, instead of drawing a physical line straight up the centre of the cheek, you can use trigonometry to figure out the centreline length.
Very good video I’m trying to refresh my old apprentice day . If I remember correctly you have to triangulate the height to compensate for offset but I don’t remember exactly how to do that

Hi Duane, could you please refer me to a good instructional layout book? Thanks in advance.
@@Oxatolla there is no one book that covers it all. My question to you would be what type of fittings or products are you looking at developing?
@@sheetmetalwork thank you for responding! I need to become more proficient at transitioning- branches, offsets, risers, drop cheek elbows. (Anything with a radius that transitions). Also round reducers and square to round. I have made some via your excellent videos. I just wish I had an official reference book of the trade. I am 56, I did not go to school for this. My buddy taught me, but I lost him before he could teach me everything. Thanks Duane!
@@sheetmetalwork Having trouble getting proper guages of sheet metal. Any chance you could post a chart showing correct 28 and 26 guage metal with min and max tolerances? Thank you Duane.
Still one of my favorite vids on UA-cam Duane!
LOL, that tells me a lot about your attention to the small details that can make your job easier. Thanks Marco.
Your on the east coast? sheet metal workers on the east coast are different breeds duane. On the west coast and failed my first union sheet metal class. Im a 3rd year. A little defeated. Was gonna give up. But i think im gonna give it another go. Thanks duane
@@lukebingham2965 hi Luc on behalf of the East coast thank you for the flattering comment, but in all honesty all provinces try to follow similar levels or curriculum which in the end after four years, will lead everyone challenging the same Red Seal exam. Don’t hesitate to ask me a question if I can help out, I will. I hope you stick with it and remember that all difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations.
And what happens when you have a fixed offset amount and a fixed overall length? How do you find the degree of the elbows?

What is the name of the sheet metal brake that did the 180 degree fold for the coffin seam? The part was loaded from the back, it looks like it had a dept gauge set at 1/4" depth, and the brake bar swung up from the back folding a near 180 degree fold. I bend a ton of seamed edges on 26 gauge galvanized and such a machine would save bending to 120 degrees, then bending again to flatten out the seamed edge
Okay, a hemming machine? I see roll former hemmers, where can one find this manual brake style of hemmer?
@@timsnow2204 it’s called a sheet metal bar folder, they come in a few different bending lengths. Here are a few brands BrownBoggs Pexto RoperWhitney TinKnocker

How do you work out the diameter of the pipe for the layout? In the video you said 3 × pie but im not sure how you get 3 inches
