An old DAD playing old games!
I've played video games as long as i can remember. Played hard core CS/CZ, Americas Army, WoW, SWTOR, amongst other titles.
Somewhere in time the universe gave me IRL and had to stop my streams for over 10 years. Alas I'm back with some oldies to get it stared again!

Civilization 2 - Hard Mode! EP03 - We lost Athens! RAGE Quit...
There's not much to say here. You're dominating the play. Since the very start, you haven't had any other civilisation try and land on your big continent and they haven't really taken as much land as I originally thought.
Hello, hello, Next Ep. we will engage Madrid. I feel we have a strong military force. Have a great one!
All of the other civilizations get paranoid when you cross their land for a split second "Why are you on our land." At this point in the game with the amount of cities and resources you have, you could push them to give you things. If the peace treaty breaks, what's the worse that will happen? You could probably take all 3 on at once and still come out on top. Spain seem to be a light blue colour which is difficult to see if you're colour blind, but the dotted lines are marked out. I can see when you've walked onto their land straight away.
Hello, hello, I feel we are way behind teck wise. Have a great one!
You always mention performance issues at the start of each video. The game just take time to properly load each part/section of the map and then after 5 minutes, it's speeds up. You've got a whole continent to yourself for resources. 4 Civilizations (including yourself) sharing parts of the slightly bigger continent than yours, but it's really divided, so good advantage to have all angles at your disposal.
Hello, hello! We are doing it slowly but surely ^_^ I feel we should be more advanced tech wise though. Have a great one!
You just need to start building loads of offensive units on the big map and fly them across by ferry or cruise. You can easily overwhelm them.
Hello, hello! We are loosing loads of units in Summer. Never the less I think we can do it next episode, we have a couple of Nights and Crusaders backed by some Trebuchets... we will see! Have a great one!
@angrodisilra The game is all about building units and losing them to battles. I think with the resources you have at your disposal (30 cities) across a huge land mass and x2 little islands, not forgetting the recently took city. It's just about closing in on the territory and overwhelming them.
Musket men are perfect. Remember defensive and offensive together gets the job done. If you lay up on the island with just offensive in such a small space, they will easily counter with attacking units. If you put defensive up front first, they're forced to attack you and that's when you hold the advantage.
Hello, hello! why can I not build Musket men in Ur? I have plenty of saltpetre. Have a great one!
Well, you're very secure owning the big land, so no matter whether you attack a civilization and lose, you'll still have the big part of your country to fall back on. The disadvantage is that we don't know how big the rest of the world is; either way it's looking good. I think the first little island was a great place to set camp, but I wouldn't bother populating the tiny islands, it's barely worth it.
Hello, hello! I think I was super lucky with this map. Said that, the Sumerians are super strong in Ur. Have a great one!
@angrodisilra Was it luck, or was it because you took the Chinese quickly? Great game this is, even you forgot you were meant to be ending the stream 25 minutes before time, having too much fun.
This mirrored track is messing with my brain, because I know how it's supposed to look.
Hello, hello! I know the feeling. With 31 county on us is even worse! Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one! Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great 2025!
This game is going extremely good now, you've found a fairly good hold within the location where you're. This game will get better over the next 2-3 play throughs now you have a foothold.
Hello, hello! My guess is that we are stuck on this island with the French. Let's see what is beyond the south of Paris and if they have more cities built. Have a great day!!
Well, you pulled that back around. This is where the game gets really interesting, watching the different countries coming in to the same area to try and take dominance....so far, so good. It's hard to tell how well you're doing, only being able to see so much of the land undiscovered. It's hard to read, but you are doing pretty good.
Hello, hello! The Japanese have some strong defenses and we also need to mind the French in the south. Let's see how this goes! Have a great one!!
This Civilization is predominantly about getting cities built quickly.
Hello, hello! We will try to manage these Japanese and then, hopefully, we can colonize this continent. Have a great and happy holidays!!
Just remember that people will still watch your content and credit you for winning a game on a medium/middle setting. You dont need to prove you can beat the game at the hardest setting. If people play a game in easy settings, then yes, it annoys me. Don't make your games so difficult to compete; we will still watch and will be more interesting as you won't be beaten 10 minutes into the game.....your audience wants to see you win.
If you're going to insist on playing it hard, you'll need a HUGE map, so there's more space in-between you and the other Civilizations and maybe play the game on a middle (medium) setting as the Hard on Civ 3 isn't as forgiving and almost neon impossible to get a good start. It seems on hard the other Civilizations trap you quickly in to submission. This game to me seems like it's more about building a big army and scouting the map as a group. Individually, they don't really cause a threat. What I mean- in relation to the science of a good army is to move out slowly and together. If there's plenty of army, your Settler can safely build cities around the defence.
Hello, hello! We will try that, but fist I'll do a suiside attempt to conquer that French city right next door ^_^. Have a great one!
@angrodisilra You might get lucky. If you can just take a city from the French. This game is far more strategy based than previous versions. It's like every move counts, but each city needs to be more protected outside of the Barracks. The Barracks will just give you a bit more defence against your opponents, but it's basic defence, so it'll only cover about 4 attempts at a city attack. Just having units surrounding your city will make other civilizations think twice about attacking you.
not the best version of civ 1 but theres a super Nintendo version that is much easier to play. because of emulator save states can reload for better rng for winning battle or goodie hut boost of choice.
Hello, hello! I'll have a look at at for sure! TVM. Those the AI also cheat in hard mode Nintendo? Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
@angrodisilra yes it cheats. the AI has no strategy, it cannot out smart you.
I'm going to guess that you are an Aquarius.
Hello, hello! Jan/80 you are correct Sir! what magic is this? Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
The lack of settlers are disturbing 😅
Hello, hello! It is indeed disturbing! ^_^ Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
You need to start this game again, they've bordered you in and grabbed all the land around your 2 cities. Maybe edit the map size, go larger map, so you have breathing space, my game wasn't like that, your location start wasn't great. Angrod "This isn't the best start.".......no, I'd say you're trapped in a corner and surrounded by 2 civilizations.
Hello, hello! Second episode is soon to come. I'm having some work related issues atm. I'll build a small army and prey to the havens and we will see if we can grab one or too French cities ^_^ Have a great one!
@angrodisilra Yeah, I've missed your streams.
Is your microphone sound playing back through speakers? There's a lot of reverb
He knocked the microphone towards the end of the last upload video. It's just a little tiny button he's knocked it and turned the reverb on.....how he can't hear it in his headphones I'll never know.
Hello, hello! I think I fixed it now. Let me know on the next episode! Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
You've left the reverb on your mic
Hello, hello! I think I fixed it now, couldn't identify the problem on stream labs. Have a great one!
@angrodisilra That's good, I still watched it, but it was irritating lol
I didn't understand what's the problem by picking greeks. Can I play the game on windows 11 somehow?
Hello, hello! The Greeks are super strong in this game. They did us every time before the run. You can play CIV 2 on Win10 and Win11, there is a patch for 64bit systems. Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
Having Barracks definitely holds the fort longer than in previous games. Sometimes you've got to drop the building structures for a while and have soldiers scattered over the map that are defensively minded. I always say there's a time for building wonders and a time for defending your land. BTW, did you knock the reverb on your microphone towards the end? Was quite funny that you didn't notice. Civilization 3 is far more forgiving and a huge upgrade on graphics, that will be awesome! They use more hexagon shaped character select visuals, instead of square in Civ1 and Civ2.
Hello, hello! Civ 3 here we go! Have a great one!
@angrodisilra This one you'll enjoy the most and so will the viewers. Any Civilization game after 2 was enhanced on detail and graphics, so I found it the most fun and actually, it cheats less the game.
Sicyon is apparently a Greek City, so I think it borrows names from other countries. It'll be interesting if you have an alliance with another country this play through. The Germans might be useful to you. I think you might need to start irrigating as food storage is low.
Hello, hello! I think we are doomed :( Have a great one!
After playing Civilization II for quite a while now yourself; do you consider it better than Civ 1?
Hello, hello! I think they are different games. CIV 2 has better graphics but CIV 1 will always have a special place in my heart ^_^
@angrodisilra I just think it's a huge improvement over the first visually. The menu is more interesting and there is no questionnaire to keep the game from being interrupted. It's definitely going better for you on this game as far as closer cities and not much conflict currently.
Bout matches are much fun
Hello, hello! UT is so much fun indeed! Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
YAY Civilzation 2!
We are back! I feel this will be a good One.
@angrodisilra You already know through pre-recorded future gameplay lol Either way, I'm glad you're back on Sid Meirs games again. Even though you've been unlucky with the previous attempts, I still have an interest in watching you retrying.
I think you are undervaluing barracks. Veteran units get a 1.5x multiplier to attack and defense and units heal 100% in cities with barracks. The barbarians at the end was a tough break though.
Hello, hello! The barracks issue is a good point. We will add this to our next run right after Caesar 2! Have a great one!
This game is completely different with the bigger map. It's good to see every civilization being involved, open up the opportunity to join forces against other nations. I prefer the bigger landscape, makes it more competitive.
Man... the Greeks are sneaky and strong. Next time we will set up closer cities, do some phalanx and archer combos and build a nice road system. We will see how it goes ^_^ Have a great one!
@angrodisilra The Greeks are also the most aggressive in both games now. An alliance with another country would be useful. As soon as a civilization starts walking around your country, it's time to get them out of there as they tend to slowly creep in and then make a quick attack. Treaty doesn't mean a thing. As soon as a country has a substantial number of units within your boarders, they'll just sneek attack. I agree with you on this game. The CPU is cheating, but it's obviously the difficulty level that makes it tough. Most people who play games will start in the middle setting. It's really cool that you're trying it in hard, but it's not necessary. If you beat it on 2 difficulties lower, it's still above the average hardness and people will still credit you with a victory.
One big mistake was exchanging all technologies with the Greeks, as it gave them the same units type as you. Instead, you should have exchanged technologies with different civilizations (by contacting many with an exploring boat) to gain a technological advantage. If you get one technology from five civilizations, you only give one to each in return, but gain five new technologies, ending with a 4+ technology advantage over all. Also, the AI obviously founds cities close to you in order to rob your land, impede your passing, and disconnect your cities' roads. This is one of the reasons why you should not space your cities too far apart. 25:52 NO. Don't irrigate. Make a new city. At this point, you made the same mistake than in the former game: wasted too many turns moving settlers too far away instead of founding cities. In each turn you lost production, science and gold.
Hello, hello! That makes a lot of sense. We will not irrigate till we have a good road system and closer cities. Also, trading tech is a big no no. We are going to have a break from CIV 2 and hit Caesar 2. We will be back and conquer CIV 2 hard mode!
@Cirwlos I actually started a game recently on Civilization 2 with all 7 civilizations and I ended up with a small amount of land to build on. I ended up irrigating the whole map and had 4 cities, but the citizens were starving. I eventually found the technologies to make basic sails, but it was too late, the damage was done and so my units just started disappearing from my cities and across the area of land I owned.
I'm always learning more about how to play this game the more I watch you. I think the Phalanx floating about but not attacking is working. Archers and Phalanx are great at holding ground and they just stand there intimidating the offensive units, whilst you use the offensive to attack them from behind. Maybe the key to this game is to attack the Greeks early and start taking their assets. Still ironic how you saw the Greeks first AGAIN! We are yet to see the American, even from the previous game.
Hello, hello! Phalanx + Archer combo sounds good to me! We will try it. Gonna have a break from CIV 2 for a couple of episodes and them come back again. We are going to try Ceasar 2. Have a great one!
That annoying bugle announcement: Go into your C:\Game Folder\Sound. The offending file is call NEWONDER.wav Delete it, then take another one of the files that is less annoying, such as GUILLOTIN.wav, make a copy, and rename the copy to NEWONDER.wav Should do it.
I think I've got it. Maybe, have 1 offensive unit and 1 attacking per city travelling together, that way when they go to defend and attack, you'll have a better chance of holding ground. Move all the defensive units in front as bait and then a set of offensive units sitting behind. The idea to cross the water from Cosa to Athens on the other side might put pressure on them from other angles, like you mentioned. Stop putting your attacking units 1 space away from your opponents units, it's like fire Vs water in Pokémon, you'll always lose (even if your unit is strong at a certain trait.) Let them close the gap closer to you and avoid getting a unit 1 space away from being taken. It's ok with the defensive units, they can kind of sit there fortified. Think of it like this: a line of Phalanx units and 1 space behind is your chariots. The chariot then can stand on the same tile as the Phalanx and then attack (2 moves). Once the opponents go to retaliate, you'll be standing on top of the Phalanx. Maybe play it on King mode, it doesn't seem quite as forgiving as Civilization 1.
Hello, hello. We will try it! I don?t trust the Greeks though, they are such warmongers... Have a great one!
@angrodisilra Purposely stand next to attacking units with defensive units and they'll think twice in attacking near your cities. Use these Phalanx to guide your offensive units to there destination safely.
You are founding too few cities, and they are too far apart. Think more in terms of how many cities can be placed on that territory, rather than how to avoid territory overlap. At this moment you should had colonized the entire continent. Also, consider the attack and defense strengths of the units. The catapult attacks with a strength of 6, but defends with only 1. If you stack a phalanx with a catapult, it attacks with a strength of 6 but defends with 2. The catapult can take advantage of roads to approach and attack on the same turn. Moving a catapult next to an enemy unit or city and ending the turn is suicidal.
Hello, hello! I was trying not to overlap city tiles. It's that the wrong way to go? should I build with some overlapping between them? Have a great one!
I see what you're saying. If you attack with an offensive unit, it'll do 6 damage, but it is only 1 at defensive. Maybe it's best to walk around with a load of defence units that just stand off to counter.
@@angrodisilra The cities will not overlap until late in the game. The value of tiles late in the game is nothing compared to all the production lost for having less cities. If you move a settler one more tile, you lose one more turn. If you make one less city you lose a lot of gold, units and other stuff, for most of the entire game. If you still want to reduce overlapping, consider founding cities separated by two diagonals, and they will only overlap on 2 tiles, which most probably will not use before the game ends. If you really want to give that tiles to one city, you can do it manually, and having an extra city starved of tiles doesn't hurts.
I think the Greeks will tare us a new one eventually. If we cannot contain them, we will start a new one and build closer cities! tvm ^_^
@angrodisilra Closer together cities is probably safer. You only really need 2 more cities to fill the gaps between cities and hold back some armed forces as defence. Where Forum Livii is located and Athens is where you need to build cities to close the gap. The Closer your cities are to Athens, the faster you can get your units there, the easier it'll be to overwhelm the Greeks.
Really great episode. Watch out that another civilization don't try landing in between the two small start-up cities on the bay. Just make sure that's locked down. The Greeks you got to early, there's a push back, but I don't think they have anything left other than their capital Athens. It'll take a few more attempts to weaken them, but they are just surrounding their own city to defend. It looks like you aren't winning, but whilst they're busy building more offensive units, they're falling behind in building structures and they're also probably paying to get the units out quickly.
Hello, hello! I fear the Greeks are strong with the force... They are giving me bad vibes, we will see ^_^. Have a great one!
@angrodisilra The Greeks are the least of your worries. The other civilizations have been quiet so far. You need to take Athens quickly before the Americans arrive.
It doesn't matter about the high council, it's random animations anyway and they all contradict each other anyway. Just remember that Athens was right next to another island and you kept creating battle units and moving them away from the city, leaving it completely exposed. You used your only defensive unit to try and take a Settler; that was not clever as Phalanx is terrible at attacking, I saw that coming a miles away. Your safest city is Corinth, because it sit's in-between everything. When I build cities, I just throw in an attacking unit and defensive and never (under any circumstance) move them. If I want to attack I create more units, the attack/defence unit inside the city don't exist to me as playing units, they just defend. It seems like the French want revenge from Civilization 1.
Hello, hello! The French are strong, but the Mongols are also a pain. In the end Democracy screwed us good lol. Have a great one!
I found a patch for this game for free, it's called 'Civ2X64Patcher', it completely resolves the problems and runs extremely well. Just Google it, run the application and then it fixes everything.
The health bars on the units make it easier to see how much health they have left, which is useful. I really like the look of this game, the irrigation is less time consuming and it's much closer zoomed in, so you can see everything more clearly. A much better start this time, considering you're slowly moving forward with caution. I notice that there's a really narrow part of where France and Greece separate; keep that Elephant there and surround that area, so that you can peacefully build another city. The only way they can get to you then is by forcing their way through or sailing across. Stack a load of Archers behind the elephant if possible, formation of x3 just holding the line behind. Just guard that area between you and France and then they can't slow your progress down.
Hello, hello. I do love the health bar mechanic. The Frensh are strong with the force O_o ... Will sort the performance issues asap. Have a great one! ^_^
The economy grows exponentially (like compound interest), so the best strategy is to start producing benefits as early as possible. Do not found early cities too far apart, because you'll lose productive turns, and ultimately end up founding fewer cities. One city is worth more than one square for another city. The cities will not compete for territory until the late game, so distancing cities does not provide benefits at the start, but wasting turns causes a loss of a lot of early production. For the same reason, it is not worthwhile to spend turns enhancing a tile before founding the city. Also, it is worthwhile to stack the settlers so that improvements start producing early. Also, consider sending the settlers to the same city initially, so that city becomes stronger earlier and can support other cities. There is a patch to fix problems on 64 bit PC.
Hello, hello! Thank you! We will try to set some good road systems and work our way to France... If we can sort the performance issues. I'll search and install that 64bit patch! Have a great one! ^_^
Bros pc cant handle that, fps dropping
Hello, hello! So true my PC cant handle it! Help a bro out and smash that like button, share and subscribe! Have a great one!
It was a good test run to see how the game works. In Civilization 2 you won't be able to leave your cities exposed. Expansion needs to be done cautiously, taking a few units along with the Settler to build further up the map. Founding a city right next to your opponents isn't always sensible. I figured out a great strategy the other day. Once you've created a few cities with a bit of space surrounding, create a few weaker start up units and block the opponents from crossing onto your area without breaking a treaty on both sides. If the map is narrow in certain places then it's easier to block to path.
Hello, hello! We are still struggling with performance issues. I think my PC might not handle CIV 2. Let us see! Have a great one!
@angrodisilra Civilization 2 is an old Dos game, though. It doesn't make sense that your PC is struggling to play a game from the early 90's that run on a Windows 4.1/Windows 95 system.
Hello, hello, these old 32bit games are a pain to setup in 64bit OS. I'm using DOSBOX for DOS games and DXWND for windows oldies. CIV 2 is a pain to set up because every menu is a separate window from the main game. Said that I think we will manage a full Hard mode! Have a great one! ^_^
10:39 That's an ideal location to establish an isthmus city. By connecting two oceans, such a city enables ship passage and allows for effective defense; with just half the fleet, both oceans can be protected. Additionally, it's also possible to found cities connected tucching along a diagonal, allowing boats to cross the land. If overpowered, vessels can evade pursuit by escaping to the other ocean or through the canal-city. Isthmus also block enemies on land, allowing to deny them territories. You can also stack settlers on the same square, to finish the job faster, so it starts producing earlier.
Hello, hello! The French are a pain in my tushy... hare and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
Well, that's complete in full. I was hoping for a final battle between Romans and the French, Well done completing it on hard mode. Worst 2 empires were the Zulus and the Egyptians, because they were around a long time, but they made no impact. The British and Americans were obviously at war with each other at the same time you was against the Chinese. By the time you reached the British, they were already being taken by the Americans, which helped you as they were both distracted.
Hello, hello! Agreed, the Zulus and the Egyptians got stuck on far away islands. The British and the Americans nuked so many of our units. We lost 150+! Civ 2 is giving so many technical issues, we might have a skip and jump to CIV 3 hard mode. Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
do not put on one music for whole live
Hello, hello! We are currently setting up a playlist on our stream. Stay tuned! Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
Aahh from which game is the music? I played it so so much and I can’t remember the name. Please tell me so I can go back to sleep.
Hello hello! The background music is called Vintage Electro Pop by Frankum & Frankumjay. Their links are in the description. Give them your love as well. Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
Nice game
Hello, hello! thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoy the content. Share and hit the bell, it really helps the channel out! Have a great one!
Please make 2 endings for this game. One game where you beat the French and one where you launch the rockets. That way you have completed both parts of the game. I don't mean from the start, but load that game and create another save file separate, that way you'll be able to play the last part of your existing game twice.
Hello, hello! We will do it! We will capture the last French city when we arrive at Alpha Centauri! Have a great one!
Looks like I'll be watching your content again. Your Civilization 1 content was really good, I reckon this will be even better with the slight graphics upgrade.....highly recommend to new viewers.
Hello hello! We are having some performance issues with the game. It is too laggy. I'll try to fix them asap ^_^ Have a great one!
Put a diplomat into Rouen to check how much the AI cheat. For the lol's.
Hello, hello, I will. pretty sure the AI does some serious cheating! Have a great one!
Great episode again. There's not much push back from the other remaining Civilizations.....France should've moved a settler to that tiny island you just discovered and built a city to give them a hope. I think you fought mostly against the British. This series of games is fun to play/watch every time, it's not like a Playstation/X-Box game and it gives you more chance to talk, because the games are strategy time based, so you can just talk freely without it ruining your game progress and because you play the games on tough modes, it gives the subscriber or viewer the fun knowing your journey won't be easy; makes it just as fun to see you lose sometimes, same as when people watch Formula 1 or Nascar racing and they go to see the crashes, but ultimately we still want to see you win.
Agreed! The British put out great resistance even when they lost London. Democracy was the game changer. We will see in CIV 2 if we can win as well! Have a great one!
40:37 Rebase an unit should be the menu Orders>Home City. The manual I found says: Menu Orders Home City: The name of the city that is supporting the unit and normally the city where it was built. You may transfer a unit to another city by moving it there and pressing the Home City key (the H key on the IBM). This may be useful when one of your cities is threatened with capture because all units supported by a captured city are destroyed.
Hey there! I think my Civ 1 version does not have this option :( I'll try the hot key though, thank you so much ^_^
Were you trying to change the home city of a unit? I think that's H when the unit is selected.
Hey there! I'll try the hot key though, thank you so much ^_^ have a great one!
Egyptions only ever had 11 Phalanx, haha. You have to lose a lot of units to gain ground on the map, so 84 Knights being destroyed in battle over thousands of years of battling isn't bad. Your enemy's still don't have Armour/Mech units, so easy victory.
I think after we beat the English and the Americans it was game over for the game's AI. The French and the Zulus got stuck in small islands.
@@angrodisilraI thought that the French region of the map would extend more. It was surprising how small the whole island was, although quite far to travel to. I'd really like to see gameplay for Civ 2, but with a slightly bigger map. I sit through your content at about 10pm-11pm (UK time) getting high and I actually look forward to watching every 2 nights.
I have keys for Civ 2, Alpha Centauri and Colonization. I can try a Deity run on Civ 2. Which one would you like to see next?
@@angrodisilra There's 3 Civilisation II games, it's basically extremely similar to Civ 1, except it's far more graphically pleasing. The other 2 you mentioned are actually using the new square block moving system. I think it's called 'Civilization II Multiplayer Gold' and it's gone down as 1 of the top rated franchise games. My personal favourite is Civilization 3 as it's the first one that is aesthetically pleasing and keeps parts of the original concept, but starts using hexagon shapes as moving grids, but isn't overall that complicated, but keeps the cartoon style, but more sal shaded looking units. If you did a Civilization VII stream (once released), you may pick a few hundred new subscribers as that's the game that people really want to see, looks like a movie in the trailers; crazy!
I'll do an CIV 2 Deity run next ^_^. I've just checked CIV 6 specs... I'll need a new PC for that! We will see by FEB25.
