McKee here from The States. This is fascinating to learn!
Thanks for the video! It helps a lot in connecting the dots.
Excellent music choice❤️
Pass Killiecrankie on occasions and often wondered what happened there. Thank you for explaining so well.
Bonnie Dundee, a Graham, my relation.
Odd hearing ma history from an American 🤣❤️👉🏴
ALL that exists are Books.. Stories…. Amazing.. I Traced Back to Doric Order .. Delphi this makes sense..🔥🙏
My family is mackay. Very proud. My grandfather gifted me our quilt as a child.
Am fuckn scottish know my history, wow 👌
Not a mckay
Mckay born of 🔥 red hair ,or temper
No let's talk ,ffs, nothing to do with your ,bad pronounce
Am mckay we need to chat ,as why history, on the Internet, doesn't speak about, our family
MACKAY CLANNERS, my mother's father David Bain, was born in Wick, Scotland and my mother's mother Helen Scott Brown Bain, was born in Ludlow, Scotland. Both David and Helen were of the MacKay clan.
Moray is pronounced "MUH-ree."
Thanks for the history lesson. My grandmother was a MacKay from the Isle of Lewis. I still have a lot of family there that I have visited. She emigrated to Canada during WWII.
I went to the graveyards in north Scotland Betty, Tongue Stratnaver etc. I found it hard to find a tombstone without Mackay on it. Also some time ago Clan Mackay offered to pay half my DNA test to get access to the results. It went back to Scotland 37% and less to Ireland Even less to Switzerland and England but never really got any more from it. My great great grandfather was listed as McKee on some of his documents before coming to the US and McGhee on the US side of the documents. I wonder it is was Mackay before McKee.
WOW! So cool. I'm in San Diego and can trace my DNA to the area of East Lanarkshire via Ireland and clan Mackie (original spelling is undetermined but I will keep searching). ❤
We could be mistaken for brothers or at least close relatives
I'm from India and my surname is makey similar to mackay is there any link
@@jacktaker8151 there could very well be a link, depending on where your family got the name. Do you know much about your grandparents?
In America, my mother's grandmother was a McCoy, who we have since learned through genealogy, but especially DNA, was a direct descendant of Robert Mackay Sr./Anne Browne; Robert Mackay Jr./Patience Job and then Enoch Mackay/Sarah Borden. It is believed, though not yet proven, that our lineage is from the Scottish clan Maccay.
I’m so proud to be of the Clan MacKay
Hey there! Modern McCoy here in Saint Louis, MO, USA just studying my family history!
Just come across your channel I know it’s an older video. Just wanted to add maybe you know maybe you don’t. Pretty sizable amount of Mackay/Mckay that used both spellings here in canada mixed with the native population of the cree and Ojibway in large amount probaby with the others as well. So there are lots of McKays in the nations of those and the Métis carry that line. My first Mackay relatives arrived in canada late 1700s early 1800s that I can trace. The son of them became politicians and Indian officers being som of the first what are now called Métis( then called half breeds) that had major part in the relations between the natives and settlers and where part of traveling to each tribe and handling the treaties of canada with James Mckay son of angus Mackay being one of my family line. That directly witnessed the signing of the treaty’s and escorted them to the next location. Being well know as one of the best trapper and guides of the time
Moray is pronounced Murray
The Scots never came into contact with the Romans to my knowledge, the Picts inhabited Pictland that later became Scotland when the Scotii tribe invade the land and merged with the natives there. The Romans had long gone by the time the Scots took over Pictland. In 839 AD MacAlpin became King of the Picts and Scots In 383AD the Romans left the British Isles
@@TheWarsuron yes. Chris isn’t saying they are actually connected because they historically met. He’s only making a connection between two pagan gods from two different cultures that are both “Gods of Fire.”
@@clanmackaysocietyofscotlan1311 ah I see, misinterpretation on my part , my apologies.
Great job
The judgement stone west of castle varrich is another good one, too.

Really good book. Not for the faint hearted, thou 😅
Please share the recipe of galletas MacKay - or an unwrapping/ tasting video maybe?
Shortbread? 😂
@@sofierdblog I’ll see if so can find some!
I suspect it would be a bit of a task to find speakers but any chance of a series about the dialects of Mackay country? Either Caithness Scots or Gàidhlig Dhùthaich Mhic Aoidh ... maybe history, samples, and commentary on which dialects survive or are dominant now in Mackay country. (English obviously but i mean Scots and also Gàidhlig).
@@mattragan7048 yes, I think this would be a great idea! I don’t speak very well at all, but we can do a video for sure!
What about General Hugh MacKay, who may have been Grandnephew of Lird Reay, two generations after the 30 years War, who had also been fighting for Venice in The Levant and Landed with William of Orange at Torbay in 1688?
Just ordered it. I'm currently reading about Thomas Cochrane so I may have to go between the two books!
Great job Hunter.
Isn't it ture that the Lord Reay's coat of arms isn't something other members of the clan would dispay. It's purely for the clan cheif?
@@bensonmckay2324 Yes, that is true. It is the Lord Reay’s Coat of Arms, not the family name.
But we can display the clan badge correct?
@@bensonmckay2324 I don’t think it would be that big of a deal to have Lord Reay’s coat of arms in your house, just as long as you recognize that it is his, and not your “family coat of arms.”
@bensonmckay2324 we display it at our clan tent but we make sure to let everyone know it's his we also got promotion to do so .
Love it Hunter.
Question I'm a Mackey and my ancestry goes back to Scotland. Could this possibly be a connection?
Very very likely that it is!
Still here in macaky land Albu gu brath 🏴
I am possebly a doughter of Anna Maria Mackay living US New york. My father is Baruch she was married with him in 1949.My Heritage said Thatcher I had 4000 familymembers is mac kay clan so big?
@@elly9236 there are many with the last name Mackay!
❤❤❤
As an Australian Mackay, this is fascinating as we have always wanted to know more about our heritage. My paternal grandmother always told me wild stories saying we’re were related to Mary Queen of Scots and Eric the Red. We thought she was just a bit eccentric so I’m trying to find out what I can.
No
