I've seen several reactors mention that chime as if it has some significance. You mentioned that you're like 10-15 episodes ahead of this right now, so I think this is safe to say... It's just a Toei animation device. They keep cutting back to it basically just to pad time a bit where it's needed. (They're actually quite good with these animation techniques for the most part, especially in these earlier episodes.)
With the number of Straw Hats there are now, they can be split into so many interesting little groups. If I'm not mistaken, we've mostly seen singles and pairs until now. Three or four really changes the dynamics.
Welp, you've openly acknowledged that you love these characters so you're stuck with us now. Muwahahaha! Things get interesting faster as we progress. Conis did look a bit sus.
