I own this camera and I love it and its simplicity. I was just tinkering around with it yesterday making a quick vlog without my audio recorder and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of audio from the built-in camera mic. In a pinch, this camcorder makes acceptable vlogs. I highly recommend this to anyone just starting out..in good lighting, the picture is good enough and as long as the camera is facing you while you're talking, it picks up your voice with acceptable enough quality for UA-cam.
Get "separation from the background" by a) going to manual focus, b) moving the camera 15 feet from your head, and c) zooming in on your eyes/mouth and focusing - then zooming out to your chosen framing. Oh, use a backlight, too.
Thanks for the variety of reviews for this device. I've been watching your videos reviews of this camcorder all day. Might pick this up this week with curbside pickup at Best Buy due to COVID-19. Would love to handle it physically first. 😕
I got a used one for 125 no charger I plan on getting a wide angle lens and using it for wide shots outside and use my phone for close ups. on a budget I'm just starting out.
Great info ...I have that camera and yes indoors need a lot of light I have like 4 all around me ...but out side shines .. thanks for sharing .. keep it up .. love your videos
I was getting confused about the footage thinking you were complaining about the beautiful footage from the Canon D thinking that was the vixia I really like the footage from the Canon D and how it puts the background out of focus
Awesome and informative video! Thank you! Question: the sound that it makes when you open the screen or turn the camera on, can you turn that off? Looking to buy a camera to record hunts. Don’t need anything loud in the woods! TIA!
Hi, we bought this camcorder for our office when i have to record speech and stuff. I have focus issue when two people are standing side by side and talk. Seems the focus only go on one person leaving the other one a bit blurry. Should i put manual focus ?
Hey!! So aside from this R-800 cam that I wont bye.... got recommendations for a newbie videographer, indoor usage, set position to capture clients before and afters. UA-cam show - long range
I've had great luck with the T7i, but that camera with a decent lens is about 1k. I really don't have much experience with anything other than whats on my channel. Wouldn't want to give you some wrong information.
I really appreciate your 'true review' of this little camera. I purchased one about 2 years ago, based on your original review and have enjoyed using it in various conditions. I am quite pleased with it's performance, but do have a few questions I was hoping you might be able to help me with. I love the zoom feature and have been able to get some wonderful footage of wildlife with it that would have been impossible otherwise. My issue with the zoom is the focus. On zooming in, the focus lags behind the zoom. Is there a setting I can change to fix this? I have tried slowing the zoom speed down to allow the focus to catch up, but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I have resorted to zooming in and then zooming back out then playing it back in reverse. Which is ok when the subject is not moving. I am also looking for a decent gimbal for it. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help-Sue
I do not have a solution for that. Even my DSLR's focus hunt a bit when I zoom in quickly. I have to tap on the subject sometimes, or manually focus until the autofocus takes over with my really long Telephoto lenses that are similar length to the Vixia 800s.
Takes a nice video. Beware that charging outlet for the on-camera battery --it is a total cheap, terrible junk connection and a deal breaker for me. It only took a year for mine to go bad. The so-called "manual focus" option just doesn't do it. Image stabilization not so hot either. Just ordered a Sony.
do you by any chance happen to still have the box and if you no longer use it would you be willing to sell it to me? :) SOS I really need to buy a box from exactly this camera
I wouldn't recommend it for anything indoors. The image gets really grainy in average to even good indoor lighting. This camcorder really needs excellent sunlight to have a clear image.
Thanks for the bareknuckle review. You told (and showed me) everything I needed to know within the first two minutes. Unfortunately it seems like entry-level DSLRs and 4:3 cameras shot up by $150-$200 in the last twelve months, and I was hoping to avoid going that route with a good digital camcorder. But, like the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. There are better camcorders, like the JVC HC-VX981K, but that same $800 will buy a decent all-around camera.
They make special cameras for that. While this camera is probably light enough to mount on a rifle, you'd have to deal with the display screen sticking out of the side.. not to mention the camera would get in the way of your scope. They make scopes with built-in cameras specifically for what you're looking for.
I know you basically mentioned it, but I think your review really is skewed. You are comparing a $2000 setup (90D) to a $200 setup (R800). Not really fair. And, your 90D will only record 30 minutes of video (that's the issue with VIDEO recording with a CAMERA). The R800 will record until the battery runs out or you run out of memory card storage. So a PLUS to the R800 is for anyone who wants to record LENGTH! As a UA-camr, you can easily stay within 30 minutes - but try using that to record a High School Graduation or a Wedding. You're going to have a lot of five-minute-ish gaps when you had to reset the camera.
Skewed how? I don't think it's a good indoor UA-cam camera. And I think it's strengths are outdoors in excellent lighting. All based on my personal experience and opinions.

Awesome and informative video! Thank you!

I was researching for the same thing! Need one for Turkey / deer hunts. Let me know if you come across anything good for it at a reasonable cost!
Yes, there is a setting that allows you to turn the notifications sound to low, high or off. So there is no sound at all when opening the screen.
love ur vids... dont stop
Canon has the option 30 frames?Ive seen only 24 frames 17 or 35.but i really need 30 frames!
it goes up to 60fps
Thanks for the review!

One more thing, there is a minimal focus distance. So you could be too close to something to focus on it zoomed in.
@@FitsandFun Could be on some shots, but the majority are looking across our lake. Quite a distance. Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly!

hi which sony did you go for in the end?
What lights where you using when testing this little camera?
Two soft box lights. One on each side, each with 4 bulbs plus an overhead light. Typical studio lighting.
do you by any chance happen to still have the box and if you no longer use it would you be willing to sell it to me? :) SOS I really need to buy a box from exactly this camera
No, I actually bought the camera on clearance for half price with no box. It was the display model.
i have the box for the my vixia.
Can u connect yoir microphone to it?
Only if the microphone has it's own power supply, usually batteries. A non powered microphone will not work.
Can this camera be used for Church for live streaming. If not, could you recommend any other model which would work well?
I wouldn't recommend it for anything indoors. The image gets really grainy in average to even good indoor lighting. This camcorder really needs excellent sunlight to have a clear image.
What is the camera you were filming with ?
The Canon 90d with the Sigma 35mm f1.4 art lens.

thanks for the tip
panasonic hcv 180? any good
Is that the camera that can be mounted to a rail on an AR-15 Or is that a Sony camera?
