- The flail mower needed a new coat of paint and I use Kubota high gloss rattle can paint. It's a perfect match to the Kubota BX tractor.

This is a family friendly tractor loving channel that hopefully inspires you, teaches you and entertains you.
I love to read your comments!
Keep on tractoring and God bless.
Brand new again!
Good job
Wow, that faded. Nice going on the new paint job
This was a great video lol. Rustoleum paints products are really great. That flailmower looks great.
Thanks for watching!
Keep on tractoring!
Great job, Jon! It looks like new! And your wife even made a new decal for it. Cool! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Martin, yes it’s really nice having a decal maker at home.
Keep on tractoring!
Chevy Orange paint also works well
I’ve heard that Chevy orange is a close match as well. However I don’t want to use Chevy orange because I don’t want my tractor to break down all the time. 😂
Keep on tractoring!
How's she goin'? Wow Jon the sun sure did a number on the original paint on the mower. It looks pretty now with the Kubota Orange!!! Take care!!!
Going well Mike! I’m up north playing in the woods. Life can’t get better. Hope all is well with you.
Keep on tractoring!
Great video on paint for my Kubota! 👍👍
Wow that difference is crazy
How’s your garden doing this year
I get paint at Tractor Supply store in AZ
What brand of paint do you find at Tractor Supply?
Keep on tractoring!
Majic and Rustoleum 👍
I haven’t seen that brand paint around here! Boy that made a huge difference. I like things to look good 👍! Having an in-house decal maker must be nice.
I like my things to look nice as well Ben. I noticed your international truck could use a new decal on the hood.
Keep on tractoring!
@@ritterjon yeah it’s about done it’s do!
Jon, my B2650 has just come out of its third winter. I do not keep it in a garage, so I know there are challenges with that, of course. That being said, holy crow, the paint fades really quickly and my bonnet has a lot of pitting on it. I just cleaned and waxed my tractor yesterday so it does get lots of tic; more than my car 🤣 So, I am ‘comforted’ that the fading issue is not just confined to me. Wonderful video and the little opinion piece by your guest star had me rolling on the floor; beyond adorable! Thank you so much as always!
That kid of mine, you never know what she’s gonna say. 😂😂
The original paint on that flail mower is some of the worst paint I’ve ever seen. I’ve had really good luck with the old 55 Kubota orange paint.
Keep on tractoring!
Always nice to bring the Bling back! Looking Good! Just subscribed, Take Care🚜🪵👍🏼🇱🇷
Thanks for the comment and I appreciate you subscribing to the channel.
Keep on tractoring!
Great video! Awesome
Jon great we use the the same paint
God Bless All
PaK
Pretty cool Jon!! Looks like brand new good job 👍
Love it Jon, I bet it will flail better now!
Wow that is crazy how much that has faded!
The pressure washer handled those stickers like a champ!
That flail is a beast! Plus if its faster than the hog its a no brainer!
Just wait until you see you my next flail mower video. I really put it to the test.
Keep on tractoring!
Glad to see the paint just faded and didn't peel off like powder coat! BTW - I've found Rustoleum Farm Implement Kubota Orange is a near perfect match for my BX...
I’ve seen a few others comment that Rustoleum has a kubota color but I’ve not been able to find it anywhere.
Keep on tractoring!
I was hoping your wife would make those decals!
The sticker fade is crazy, I've seen highway signs that do the same thing sometimes so I don't know what crazy paint, or the sun does to the layers but that is interesting science for sure. Thank you for posting. 👍
I’ve heard that the color red is the worst for fading in the sunlight. Orange must be a close second.
Keep on tractoring!
@@ritterjon that's odd, because I thought traditional farms are painted red so they resisted fading, or maybe it was that they faded uniformly.
@@RossOnTheLand I think barns were originally painted red because at the time that was the cheapest color paint. I could be wrong but I thought I learned that somewhere. 🤔
I hear orange and red paints are bad about fading due to the IR light. So it has to be a really good quality paint to hold up in the sun. One thing about it thought, it looks like it stuck good. My King Kutter tiller isn't faded, but isn't stuck too well based on the large flakes coming off at every little rock dent. Looking good after a bit of paint. Take Care Jon, Jason
My king cutter tiller is also starting to flake off that’s the sign of a bad powder coat job. Powder coating is a good thing but it needs to be done right.
Keep on tractoring!
Came out great! I thought id be seeing the sticker for it made, was hoping it was going to become a Ritter special though lol!
I’ll have to get my wife to show us how those decals are made. It’s a pretty cool machine that she has.
Keep on tractoring!
@@ritterjon we have one of those vinyl machines as well. Also just set up CNC plasma cutter, actually works very similar, should have some grille guards, cup holders, tool box mounts etc and all customizable!
Do you put the end of the PTO shaft with the shear bolt on the flail mower or on the tractor when you use yours? I think it's supposed to go on the tractor side, but it hits the stabilizer link pins if you run it with the mower up too high (like when raising it to turn around). I was thinking about flipping it around, but wasn't sure if that's a bad idea.
The shear bolt for the PTO is connected on the tractor side. I’ve the Messicks stabilizers and I think it allows a little more clearance. It’s a tight fit though.
Keep on tractoring!
@@ritterjon thanks! I have seen videos with people doing it both ways, but the instructions and shaft diagrams both show shear bolt on tractor side. I have the Messicks stabilizers on order, so hopefully that adds some clearance. Thanks!
How is the paint holding up underneath the flail mower? Is that a 4 foot mower or a 5’?
It’s holding up as well as expected for a flail mower I guess. It really take a beating. The flail is a four foot mower. Works great!
Keep on tractoring!
I see a Kubota sponsorship after that endorsement from your daughter.
Well, the good news is that apparently the mower company puts more money into the mechanical workings of their mower and not into paint, having said that, the paint fading was amazing. Good that you didn't paint the mower John Deere Green, the paint would have cost you more than the original cost of the flail mower :-) Nice Video....
Yes I’ve really been impressed with how that flail mower has held up, just wait until you see my next flail mowing video.
Not only would the green paint have cost more it would’ve turned into plastic. 😂
Keep on tractoring!
You can pretend that it is a Kubota attachment . By putting a Kubota sticker on it.
I thought about that but I didn’t want any false advertising. I really wish somebody would make a front flail mower attachment. I think it would be a good opportunity for Kubota.
Keep on tractoring!
@@ritterjon Maybe you should have a chat with Paul and Kathy Short what you want. Maybe he can help you out
I actually painted a Bolens compact utility tractor with Kubota color. It was not one. I pretended that it was one. I also have now a older B model Kubota tractor. The one with the hydro transmission.
Gotta' admit, when you first started spraying primer my anal-retentive, OCD alarms were screaming "Overspray. OVERSPRAY!!!" But your final product proved my neurosis to be unfounded...nice job Jon! Looks really good. 👍😎👍
Yeah I got a little overspray but after all it’s a tractor implement. It turned out good!
Keep on tractoring!
