    Really like the way you are showing your "tear downs"! You do prep on each component to be removed, call it out on the video and the whole process flows quickly and smoothly. Excellent production value in your videos Thanks for the comment on "fail safe" thermostats; didn't know they existed.

    2021......Can u believe I own the apartment style engine. I'm not a mechanic and have purchased tools. I changed the coil pack and plant to insert waterpump and thermostat. I need to perform a tune up. The 1.9 liter escort seems to be a durable engine if u take care of it. My station wagon is in good shape for an $600.00 1995! Hasn't stopped running!

    @spelunkerd The temp gauge was at 1/4 of were it should have been been and there was little heat....I am going to look into getting some of those pliers for those spring clamps.

    How come you didn't replace those hoses (small hose, top & bottom hoses) when replacing the thermostat?
    It was very time consuming, but fun & a joy, helping my husband replacing my Ferrari F40 thermostat and hoses. Took us two whole days. We have never seen one before nor have done it.
    Instead of paying the dealership, we gave the money to help the People of Japan instead.
    Thank you for showing us on how to DIY.

    Good job and thanks... What is the purpose of that check valve in the thermostat housing? Nobody but you talks about it

  • @RichpinTv
    @RichpinTv  13 років тому

    @iwho1ders To remove the bolt heat and penetrating oil is about the best you can do.The job of the check ball is the valve will melt when the thermostat fails and the engine is overheated forcing the coolant to bypasses the thermostat which makes the engine run colder.

    @brnemer I have broken those damn plastic drains over the years so i do not touch them any more.

    Very informative. U are clearly an experienced mechanic. I must say though you didn't actually show how the thermostat is placed into the housing. This is more of a thermostat housing replacement video.

      If it were me, I'd place the new thermostat in the housing the same way that the old one sat in there.
      In several parts of this video you can see which way the thermostat is sitting in the housing.

    HD is great, Rich. Gotta have a fast connection -- not everybody has that. This video has slight mismatch of audio and video, by about half a second.
    I'm guessing it might be hard to diagnose a thermostat that is stuck open -- slow warmup in the cold? Is there an easy way to diagnose this with no teardown? I'm surprised you don't have one of those locking hose clamps -- they seem way easier.

    My 1995 Factory service manual specifies 71-97 in-lbs for the three thermostat housing bolts.

    i have this car along with a couple of the later 2.o models,all have a drain plug on the radiator,the real oroblem is that the bolts are easily broken off when removing the housing

  • @studpuppy69

    @richpin06a The Saturn SL videos look way easier. This Escort looks like a nightmare to work on. Was this the reason for no heat? I know you said you were going to replace the heater core. Did you?

    @gst69man Never use it..... Suggested Applications: Valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets

  • @insider32
    @insider32 13 років тому

    @richpin06a Bang for buck(or upload time in this case), I'd say 720p is a pretty good sweet spot. Plus, it seems like older computers start choking around that point.

    @richpin06a The worse thing that could happen is they crash it into a ditch and the car is declared wrecked. All that work for nothing. Just like that Neon, after the first trans shame on me, 2nd and 3rd trans I would not want to touch the car. Even getting paid for it, its just that stigma about it...

    @cjones4512 I have to agree with you on that one, as it took me longer to do that on my Rendezvous than it did to put the trailer hitch on (about 4 hours). The one on my wife's Grand Am is being taken to a mechanic when it goes.

  • @TOMOFONO

    You should do a video of when not to bother with fixing a POS car. You'd think the Neon and this car are pumping out serious amounts of horsepower for the piss poor layout of things for 4 cylinder motors. The Saturn layout is so clear and siimple.
