    Yep! I said SM57 a few times! 🤣 I actually just shot a video about the SM57 and it was a clear brain-fart. Anyways, how does the Rode PodMic hold up against the SM7B? :)

      I hate when I cant hear a difference, lol.
      I have the Podmic, purchased the Mv7 but continue to have the urge to get the Sm7b BUT I hate that I dnt notice a different. Maybe its my samsung ear buds, lol🤦🏾‍♂️

      I like your videos, however, the Rode sounds like a toy. The SE Dynamite is the best sounding pre, pre-amp. on the market. I have been a broadcaster since age 19, at age 23 I was working on NYC radio and was number 1 in the market in my time slot. Now, when you speak into the pod mike all I hear is your nose. It's that bad compared to the Shure. I am 61 years old and I use a Shure KSM 63sl condenser for my syndicated weekend show. However, if you are on a budget, turn up the bass, drop the high end of your eq a little, get the dynamite and you will be fine.with the pod mike.

      @@FullPayGaming Buy a sm7B pop filter and take the one on the MV 7 and throw it in the harbor. Put the SM7B filter right one the MV7 and it's a much better mic. You will hear the difference.

    I went for a Podmic with a GoXLR, I doubt i will ever change! Put a wind thing on the podmic and it sounds amazing! (the GoXLR has Midas preamps so no cloudlifter needed)

      Midas Preamps on all the Behringer interfaces. Much rather get a UMC204HD for $80 and then get a midi channel controller to go with it for a better value go XLR replacement.

    I have both mics plus the dynamite and the DBX286S and totally agree how much these can value add to your audio. But... both mics are marvelous in their own right. As Eric Clapton would explain "it's in the way that you use it".

    I think the little Rode sounds really good. Sure it doesn't handle plosives as well as the Sure but that can be solved with a foam cover and maybe a pop filter. Those inline preamps can really make all the difference and if you want to save a few bucks check out ones from Klark Teknik like their CM-1. At $50 USD I don't hear ANY difference or see any difference in gain amount between it and my Cloudlifter or Fethead.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the tip on the Klark Teknik, I haven't used one of those before. Cheers! :)

      @ulfrinn8783 3 роки тому +2

      Really though, nothing handles plosives out of the box as well as the SM7B, but that's because the capsule is so recessed inside the body of the mic and it has a massive windsock over the top. 99% of your plosive problems go away though if you just talk over the mic and not directly into it.

    • @GeraldBertramPhotography
      @GeraldBertramPhotography 3 роки тому +1

      @@ulfrinn8783 No argument here. In fact I just picked up the Rode PodMic, partially because if the great things Shane here had to say about it, and I picked up a foam cover for it as well. Like you mentioned I have been speaking into it just slightly off axis to the mic and not directly into it and I am having zero problems with plosives. Really am amazed at the audio quality from a $99 mic!

    • @ulfrinn8783
      @ulfrinn8783 3 роки тому +1

      @@GeraldBertramPhotography Yeah. The style of mic that the Podmic is though, you can screw off the mesh on the very front and find that there's a lot of space around the body of the mic and the capsule itself, so you may even be able to fit additional foam inside the grill and get much better plosive handling built into the mic itself.
      When I get mine this weekend, I hope to do a full disassembly of the Podmic and see what other modifications I could make to the overall design. I know I want to add an on/off switch to the bottom of it, and If there's enough space, I may put some FET transistors inside it to give it the kind of boost you'd get from using a Fethead at a cost of a few dollars in parts.

    Combine the Podmic with a Klark Teknik CT1 booster, a DBX 286s mic sound processor and an USB sound adapter (Focusrite or other), and this is all you need - apart from the cables. Forget any sound processor software plugins for the mic.

    Need to hang on a little longer until the Earthworks Audio Icon Pro are more readily available. A couple of good reviews up already on it and to my ears sounds more true than the SM7B. I'd be upgrading from the Procaster + cloud lifter.

  • @gandolfred

    ◌ Without a doubt, the Shure SM7b sounds much better as it simply captures a wider range of sound than the PodMic. Using the dbx 286s preamp and processing, the full potential of the Shure SM7b can be pulled out.

  • @harbour123
    @harbour123 2 роки тому +1

    That Podmic sounds cheaper than an SM57 but looks better than SM7B.. The sibilance was unbearable when you put that next to SM7B.. I think you can get away with mic if you're a male & deeper voice but it may sound harsher on women.

    I got a Fethead for my Rode PodMic and I don't use it. Maybe I just don't know how to, but when I use it, there is a lot of "white noise" coming from it even at a lower gain. I'll have to give it another try!

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  3 роки тому +2

      Double check the gain control on the preamp/audio interface. When they are noisy they can sometimes be dusty internally. The gain on the desk should not be up more than about 1pm on the dial. (generally speaking)

    • @ulfrinn8783

      I believe you have to enable +48v power on your interface when using a Fethead.

      These sort of microphones sound way better with an SE Dynamite attached or Cloud Lifter. You can use them without one but the results will not be anywhere near as nice.

    this is the one test where they sound really close to each other, on the other tests the podmic gets slaughtered. i wonder if its the SE dynamite doing its thing.

    • @ulfrinn8783
      @ulfrinn8783 3 роки тому +1

      I think Podmics with less bass are designed to, or at least sound better with proximity effect. People sitting far away doing their tests make the Podmic sound worse than those who get right up on it.

    Someone please explain how someone can talk into the shure sm7b without bass roll off. If I do that you can’t even understand what I am saying because the bass (75-110hz) is so fucking overwhelming even though I wouldn’t call my voice deep.

      Just want to say that they sound almost the same, except some plosives on Podmic and warmer bass on the 7b.
      I don't know your studio sound treatment situation, but I guess that room could influence both of them and “hide” more significant differences.
