Only the coolest people on earth could come up with this. This song's got it all. It's a musical free-for-all designed to sound a bit Greek by the time it rattles its way through the mountains to the local tyrant's office in Pelaponese. Only bystanders near enough to the microphone to hear the melody and words would know it's that song the kids and old folks just love.

Any true linguist would know that both Macedonian and Bulgarian originate from Old Church, which originates from the Slavic dialect already spoken and well established in Salonica and throughout Macedonia during St Cyril and Methodius' time, and which Turkic Bulgars adopted after dropping their own language and adopted Old Church after invading and settling in the area. Both eventually becoming their own unique dialects. So based on these facts - To suggest that Macedonian is Bulgarian would be completely false. Anyone who ignores this and says it's a dialect of Bulgarian is just buying into the Bulgarian nationalist propaganda because it suits them, as there is no evidence to suggest or support the idea that the language originated in Bulgaria. There is nothing to even pinpoint an origin, it just existed in the history books one day. No historical texts even suggesting it's even a "new" language in the 6th or 7th century. Could be a Thracian language, could be related to the Ancient Macedonian language spoken in the mountains among peasants, could be Paeonian, who even knows since Old Church is the oldest record of any Slavic language and it's from the local dialects of Salonica and traders from outside villages who used to go into Salonica to trade or sell their products and produce.

I think that you should all leave Macedonia alone. How is it that for the Bulgarians we're Bulgaria, for the Greeks we're Greece, for the Serbians we're Serbia? Sounds a bit like you all just love the territory of Macedonia, this is why you all want to claim it for yourselves, despite the fact that each of you had already taken a part of Macedonia as it used to be, and then through sick nationalism were forbidding people in those territories to speak their true language and practice their own culture. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Macedonia is ancient and despite of all of your nationalistic bullshit, that is a fact.
And while you're at it, learn to read, because what you said has got absolutely nothing to do with the point I'm making in my comment. You're further proving your bullshit nationalistic propaganda. And one more point on my name in case you have forgotten: Yes maybe the kind of name I have can be found in Bulgaria, it's in the part of Bulgaria that used to be Macedonia.
Edessa, Voden, Vodena... c'est du pareil au même... juste des Grecs en Grèce du Nord qui savent parler une autre langue plus proche du Serbe et du Bulgare...
No, they are Macedonians who are related BY BLOOD to the Macedonians of the Republic of Macedonia (in fact, many of their relatives live there) - though of course, in some villages, they are Turkish Pontians who have been introduced to this music and now also enjoy these traditional Macedonian songs but don't understand the lyrics.
Imitation is always the greatest form of flattery. Thanks for pretending to be Macedonian 73saso. Greetings from Pella, Macedonia, Greece. Come see our Greek artifacts sometime, we'd be happy to educate you.
I'd love to go to Pella, plenty of dopyi Macedonians there and their festivals look like a great time like when they sing and dance to Makedonsko Devojce and Zajko Kokorajko of course.

I saw a number of Bulgarians in Macedonia. Quite a few, it seems, originate from Bulgaria. Otherwise, the place seems to be dominated by Macedonians.

The language this song is being sung in is a dialect of Bulgarian; ask any self-respecting linguist.
The language of the true Macedonians is Greek.
