What a coincidence. I had been looking for the Adobe photoshop and Illustrator all yesterday. But today, bang! there is for the today content. Thanks a lot, Gary.
I've been editing artwork and images on GIMP for 14 years and I'm still learning all the features it offers. (Seems like I know only the "tip of the iceberg" of what GIMP does. Before GIMP, I used Photoshop. Now I stick with the program I know better (and stays available to us poor artists) .. which is GIMP, ... and I appreciate it!
Knew about GIMP, and also using that affectively, knew about AUDACITY, but right now I could not face any need to use it much, also knew about BLENDER, but guess what, my windows laptop was bought in 2014, so it can't handle, but still I watch your videos, as we are gonna buy M1X Mac, but THANKS for the other apps!!
Hi, I came across this channel by chance and gladly surprised to find you Gary here. I read many of your great books on Director and Flash over the years. Keep up the good work! 🤩
Thank you for all your hard work you put into your videos, I learned great deal from you about Macs, some things I never knew existed. Thank you again, and I am looking forward learning more from your futures videos.
ScreenFlow is probably a bit easier. But that's because Final Cut Pro does a lot more. They are probably as different as you can get while both still being video editors of sorts. SF is much more about recording and editing screen recordings and tutorials. Final Cut Pro is an all-around video editor made for TV and film (and UA-cam, etc).
More great and sound advice... pure content from You Tube's ultimate 'Tech Master' ~ par excellence ~ Thanks Gary, for this timely rundown of the best available free Artist software.
By the way if you don't like GIMP just because the UI/UX design, then j would probably digest you that you should look in UA-cam for creating Gimp look like Photoshop. And there are a ton of videos, without any plugin or something, just drag and drop, as that is a lot customizable
Hey thanks Gary! what is a good final cut pro alternative for editing videos that is either free or very cheap any suggestions? Will you do a video of this?
Free? Just use iMovie. If you really need more Final Cut Pro is actually pretty cheap for that level of editor. Others like it will cost the same or more. There is Adobe Premiere Elements for $100, but I've not used it.
Hi Gary, thanks for all of the great free content that you provide. Is there a way to convert an existing audio file to text on a Mac ? Thanks for your help.
That's tricky. There are services that will do that -- "transcription" is what it is called. You usually have to pay. Transcription is different than dictation because with dictation you are speaking and watching the text as it is created. You can make adjustments to how you speak and make corrections as you go. You also tend to speak slower so it can catch up. But with pre-recorded audio files it is much harder for computers to figure things out.
@@macmost Thanks. Yes, I think it's probably best just to audibly read the text that I want to highlight directly into a text document using Mac's dictation.
A friend of mine reports that the latest version of Adobe's Premiere Pro does a very good job of speech-to-text, but of course it's not free. IBM has a cloud-based speech-to-text service (based on its Watson AI technology) that's free for up to 500 minutes a month and fairly reasonable thereafter. I haven't used it myself but since you can try it for free, it might be worth a shot.
@@macmost The Artist's Inventory sheet is a list of artworks with detailed information. Included within the list is a small thumbnail image of the piece. There are columns for the title, medium, date made, where it has shown/is showing, price, if sold, etc. I am starting to figure this out. Now how not to have additional blank pages when I go to print! It's a learning curve. Thank you for your reply :). Learning a lot from watching these videos!
@@paulaswaydangrebel4126 Numbers lets you have images as a background for a cell, but not a value. That may work for you if you don't want anything complex (like LOOKUP tables and such). Printing is always an issue as Numbers isn't really built for that. Maybe look for a third-party app that does this? Some sort of library or cataloging software? Or a web service?
I almost put Inkscape in this list, but the website is a mess when it comes to the Mac version. Lots of contradictory info about the latest version and what it is compatible with.

maybe thats why i have seen a photoshop ad at the beginning of the video xD
The included Photos app in MacOS and iOS is actually a fairly capable photo editor as well.
I agree! But you can't really edit photos, just adjust them.
Add Inkscape, comparable to Adobe Illustrator for Vector Graphics; Vectornator has gotten so much better with its last few updates.

When it comes to free editing software for video and audio it's pretty hard to do better than DaVinci Resolve.
Totally agree. I think it's actually better than FCP or Premiere.
Thanks for the info. I did not know about Resolve. Will try it out since I really don't like the strange workflow logic of Final Cut Pro.

It's a great app. There's lots of videos and articles all over the internut on how to use it.
