I know I’m about 3 months to late but I think I can figure this thing out. In the beginning, Dib dreams that he kills Zim and gos to court. He gets punished like he killed a human and gets thrown into a mental ward, even though he thinks he did something reasonable. In the video he’s being judged by his father, which means he scared of disappointing him even more (or he’s just scared of him). Then it switches over to Zim. At 1:30 Zim has been caught and has failed his Tallest. It isn’t like he can explain him self cause to him, he’s just failed the most important mission of in Impending Doom 2. At 1:47 one of the Tallest and Membrane show up, and it zooms into another Tallest and Gaz. It’s Zim and Dib being shown what they could have been; Zim, as the Tallest, leading and being important, and Dib as Gaz, strong and sane. Going back to just Dib, at 2:10, Dib and Zim are falling done a hole, and Dib reaches out to Zim. Dib feels sympathy for Zim, and gets very confused by it. Zim is his mortal enemy and an alien that wants to destroy earth, the last thing he should do is feel for him. This might be what wakes Dib up. Overall, I like this a lot, one of my favorites. I know I probably missed some stuff, if so let me know.👍

Ok I think I got something. If Zim dies in the beginning, then that means everything that happens in the video is real (or at least till 1:01), there’s a problem with this though, there’s weird images being show the whole time (flower people, cloud shapes, silhouettes, etc). It’s probably there to show us that this is how Dib sees it and not how it really is.
@@lettuse6099 I'm not gonna go looking too far into the meaning of this, but I think what happened is that Zim was exterminated by the Tallest, but Dib didn't gain any emotional glee or any unburdening from it like he feel he should have. Zim is gone, he gloats, and he is accused of Zim's murder, feels sympathy and regret for what's happened to Zim, and how similar it is to his own situation. He gets out of a death sentence on an insanity plea.
Three years late, but mind if I take a stab at it?
Dib has near fatally injured Zim, finally exposing the alien to everyone. The problem is, he did it a bit too violently, and now everyone is afraid he might lash out and kill someone. Even his own father believes it and leaves Dib in an asylum while he works to get Zim stable again. Both of them have failed and have lost the trust of the ones they wanted to prove. Zim's unstable state makes him hallucinate the Tallest yelling at him, and Dib's delusions caused by the shock therapy make him hallucinate his dad angry and disappointed in him. Somewhere along the way, Dib realizes that Zim isn't so different from him. They're both trying to prove themselves so badly that it makes them seem insane. He comes to accept that maybe they are both insane.
Interesting animatic! Trying to decipher the story here is fun... ! Nicely made.
Dib is put in an insane asylum because of his intrusive thoughts. Zim is captured by the tallest. Dib is put into electrotherapy. Tak and Gaz don't really care, but feel bad about Zim and Dib. Dib wakes up, finding out it's just a dream.
It's Pilot Dib in the dream, and I think the Dib that appeared in the show was dreaming the dream.
I love the way the music compliments the emotion and the art. This is just beyond amazing and makes me love Invader Zim more and more. Your art really inspires me and is just astounding to watch in action.

dib choked zim to death and dib's dad sent him to jail (since everybody still thought that zim was human i guess) thats most of what I could get from it. i had no clue wtf the people with the flower heads were supposed to be and i think the stuff w/ zim and the tallest was just kinda an overview of his struggles. and then dib woke up in his bed at the end so it was probably a dream.

I literally felt extremely concerned and scared, I STARTED TEARING UP TOO as I watched this video, The emotion played throughout the video sent shivers down my spine. The worst part is that this seems CANON like this could actually happen and it literally did happen in the show just not as...intense. I can’t explain the pain in my chest right now but I can say this video was amazing :) The art was fantastic in every way, shape, and form. Also thank you for introducing me to an amazing song!

as a fan of tally hall and invader zim, this is a blessing

To think of it. The monster realm that Zim and Dib may stimulate that they are both going through the same thing and same emotions and the monster are their problems and fears chasing after them. Dib is put down for everything he does. His father is very absent in his life and Gaz discourages him even though she knows zims an alien. Dib goes to school and is called crazy all day even though he is right and he's handling something so serious and terrifying all on his own. He want to prove to his father that he is right and he is worthy. Zim painfully knows he is a defective joke to the irken empire but shrugs it off to avoid glitched emotions. That explains zims constant fear of being caught. He fears no human, he fears not being worthy to his leaders. He feels that this is his only chance to redeem himself. In conclusion, dib and Zim eventually just need to help each other out and maybe find loop holes around their problems together. Dib will forever be the only one to understand zims situation and Zim will forever be the only one to understand dibs emotions.

I actually remember this song being in OliveCow's playlist based on Dib (or at least her interpretation of Dib), so I'm glad to see someone else make an animatic based on it. It's definitely fitting for Dib's situation and what he'd likely be most scared of happening. This does an excellent job capturing not only the situation, but the lyrics. I know some people are confused, though to be fair "The Mind Electric" is a rather confusing song to understand on first listen, as someone familiar with it this fits the lyrics exceptionally well, both in the literal story and the atmosphere and emotion.
That said, I think the part that hit me the most was actually at the beginning, with the lyrics “My brain has claimed its glory over me, i have a good heart albeit insane”. In canon, Dib's mental health state is very up for interpretation. He's definitely... unusual... to say the least, enough that it's safe to say he's got something going on. Yet what that "something" could be isn't clear. However, it's obvious that all the other humans in the Invader Zim universe believe Dib is a childhood schizophrenic, regardless if that's actually true or not. They never use the exact words, but given the way he's (mis)treated and how the comments about his insanity are often meant to discredit him, insinuating he's delusional, it's still clear cut. Dib adamantly protests that label and thoroughly believes he's okay. Depending on how you interpret Dib, that's either sad because this poor kid has nobody who's willing to trust or even listen to him and is constantly being bullied and gaslighted OR it's sad because this poor kid can't even realize his own mental health issues as he has such severe issues he can't tell the difference between reality and delusional fantasy. To see him actually admit "I'm mentally ill and I need help" is heartbreaking in BOTH contexts. It's either Dib giving into the abuse and blaming himself for everything, forever warping his self image and making it way easier for everyone else to further take advantage of him, OR an epiphany moment where Dib is forced to admit that his biggest fear, the one thing he's actively fought to prove wasn't true absolutely is, only for his cries for help to be ignored. The sad thing is, knowing the show, this animatic is exactly how Dib would be treated. He is flat out abused for his (at the very least perceived) schizophrenia on a daily basis, left without anyone willing to trust him or even care about him, and punished, restrained, or even beaten at the slightest provocation. The rest of it is really sad in it's own right, but that first moment, that initial sign of weakness and painful acceptance, is such a subtly tragic moment that I feel it deserves attention.
Also, just a minor word of critique for the future: I think there's definitely parts where a single image is held for a bit too long. It was especially jarring in the section starting "all my towers crumbled down..." given the pictures didn't keep up with the music. Generally speaking, it might be good to have a minimum pace of one drawing per lyric (though you can have more if you need it). However, I also understand that's much easier said than done.

I'm afraid of my mom and she won't get me the help I need, I felt Dib on a whole nother level
I think the real meaning behind this is Dib turned Zim over to his dad for science, and, his dad, not knowing what he’s doing, sends him to an asylum, where Dib is treated for a mental illness that doesn’t exist. Zim is being tested on and keeps having visions of the Tallest, and he feels as if he’s failed them. Dib is trying to escape the asylum and help Zim because he feels extreme guilt, and that on top of the “treatment” drives him insane. Dr. Membrane is controlling Zim and Dib’s life, as shown where’s he holding them back with chains. Dib is driven to the brink of insanity, and Zim is slowly dying from what Dib’s dad has been doing in him for research, and Dib keeps trying to reach out to Zim. The red tallest and Dr. Membrane feel no sympathy (or so we think), but Gaz and Purple are trying to help the two of them. Because, as the two say, they’re just kids.
(Btw, Dr. Membrane is brainwashed by weird guy at the beginning next to Dib)
This legit hurt my soul. Like. I can't because I want Professor Membrane to be a good guy but I also know he is a fluffing douche to Dib and just . . . UHGGGGGGGG MY HEART!

Around 2:20 when he says i can't tell if I'm not me it would be interesting if they kinda had a switched body experience. Like, he had irkin trackers on him and all that lightning from both ends switched their brains around before coreecting itself.
It would really drive home the idea that zim was a person like him too, making him feel more guilty for murdering him and being more suceptible to what the general public tell him, that zim wasn't a nut job tryna take over the world

So I think what’s happening is, dib is having a nightmare. And the thing about killing zim? Well they’re enemies, maybe zim is to aggressive Turing this fight. Dib has to kill him, and the flower? I don’t know. Still trying to figure it out, or since it’s a dream that’s just there. Dib does see monsters and other weird things, could be something in his head. Him getting electrocuted? It could have happened before when he was sent to the crazy house, so he’s just remembering this? Or he thinks that they’ll do it if he does kill zim or anyone else, maybe even do something worse. And Professor Membrane with his hands going to alien like? There’s a theory that he’s an irken, maybe it’s that. Or since dib is obsessed with aliens, and zim is his enemy. He dreams that. And why is zim there? Maybe, they both are dreaming and are in this dream together, dreaming about experiences they had. Or after that experience from zim he somehow tells dib? But dib doesn’t believe him. Dib thinks about if it couldn’t been real. He thinks that it could’ve been like something in his dream. He dreams of it and maybe feels sympathy. Then he dreams about the tallest, of how evil they could be too. And there’s Gaz and is that tallest miyuki? (Or just one of the tallest?) zim May have told him about miyuki too. Or I think dib could’ve messed with his Pak and sees his memories about miyuki. (He may have seen the tallest too in the trial) and about Gaz, she’s just mean to dib, but since in the florpus she does care for him dib thinks otherwise? Or he remembers Gaz getting angry at him some time and telling him to stop his obsession and saying other things to hurt him. And at the end, maybe dib goes to therapy. Or he used to and nothing worked for him. That’s all I have! Now excuse me I need to go pat my dog
Oh yeah, and when zim and dib are falling? I’m thinking that dib tries to help zim since I said that he might have sympathy for him. Or he’s given up? And dib wanna help him. Or maybe dib just possibly saw zim falling and jumped down after him. There ya go now bye.
