Too many years ago I was astounded that Madness could write such a timeless song. And yes, I was wrong, and I have to tip my hat to Labi. That said, Madness’ version is nothing short of sublime.

I’ve been gay since I can first remember. In 1971 I was 12/13 years old and I thought - this man is a gay. Just a hunch which turned out to be right. Labi and his partner were together from the 1960’s until his partner Peter died in 2013. It must be hard to lose someone after that amount of time.
Still love this song after all these years! Happy tune, always makes you smile. Madness did a different take, Good. But nowhere near as good as Labi's original
This cheesey listening genius must have some quality albums over the years. I dropped into one (Singer and Song) since searching this and was pleasantly rewarded. But I do hope this track was from a studio album.
