I went to prison for my 4th DUI, that's mandatory in California, as I should have and a felony. I never hurt anyone physically, aside from what my arrests did to my family and friends, and was never in any accident, but I could have. My 2nd and 3rd were sleeping it off in the parking lot outside of the bar and club but I had the vehicle running for the heater and it's still technically a DUI with intent. Prison stopped me from getting behind the wheel but never stopped the reason I was killing myself with alcohol. I got that from a church and a rehab program. Now I'm sober from everything going on 2 years and never felt better.

Awe wow guy thanks for sharing your journey. Glad you have found peace in your life. I used to drink and drive. Totalled one car on my own tree on my property. Smashed side of my dream car few years later. I've been sober for only 7 months as I can't handle drinking and not driving. I'm never in my right mind cuz idk when to stop. I could be in prison for life for murdering someone's child behind the wheel

Even if they have been legally adopted out so she never can regain custody, they will be 18 before she knows it. Time goes fast. It would be worth it to get clean and her life in order hoping for a relationship with them as adults and watch her future grandchildren grow up. If she stays like this, they won't want to get to know her then and she will lose them forever.

That's so sad. I thought she was in her 40s. The drugs have stripped her of everything. I'm so grateful to be 4 1/2 years clean. It's never too late. I was homeless, lost my son, was selling myself you name it. I'm clean, have a job, an apartment and most important I have my son. His birthdays coming up, I can buy him gifts, I'm there for him. And I have no one, it's me and him, that's it, his dad died in a car accident when he was 5 months old. And it's still possible to be clean, sober and happy.

Every once in awhile, another inmate steps up to give someone some real life advice. Even at some of the worst times in their life, they still try to reach out. I wish there was a program where the staff could find a place for them to have a job giving advice. I know the jail staff try that too. But none of them have been in active addiction. I know they have a chaplin who tries to help too but sometimes, the only one who can get through is someone who's been there, done that.

The folks who are saying the police could have done better are correct. Instead of taking in a couple of guys for being a bit rowdy and clogging up the system, the police could have been proactive and explained the situation.
