The 4.9 we had in NJ was so violent, even the 2.0 aftershocks blew asphalt a 50 yards into a house (water main). We’ve had hundreds since April, very unsettling, even the 1s and 2s are very loud and produce shaking far and wide. I read on USGS a 4.9-5.0 is felt overly differently based on location and that our area of Northeast the shallow quakes feel very violent

How did we get hit with a 4.something and not have our roads get messed up like yours here in Texas? The only damage I have noticed from it was that this huge crack in my house got much wider.

@@pandakicker1 there are some faults, like the san Andreas where the plates rub back and forth, there are other faults like cascadia that push into each each other. Those ones are pretty violent

I am a Texan I called an old friend of mine that has worked for the drilling companies for over 30 years and she told me that there’s no fracking in those areas and the drilling has stopped thanks to our government. They would rather import oil and cost Americans a lot of money but she also stated when you go on Google maps, make sure that you check that it is this year and this month she said they try to fudge these type of graphics to make everybody believe you know climate change and all that stuff OK I’m just an old Texas woman and I know there are many fault lines that Kris Kross do all kinds of crazy things all over this huge state I’ve known about this since I was in school we studied this
Also, I need to inform that there are tons of illegal camps that are like small towns all over West Texas going up into the panhandle. There is also numerous Terrace training camps that I’ve been here for over 20 years and they just keep adding more and more of them.
So I need to add that to you just in case you didn’t know about these cities that they’re trying to hide
@@NanCaraway my husband was a frack sand hauler for years and had his own company of 9 haulers. We got out almost 2 years ago and I can assure you it is still going on fast and furious. We are oil pumpers on a lease now in central Texas that does not frack. But we know many still in the field in West Texas.

I'm in Denton, Texas, which is north of Dallas, and did not feel any shaking. Snyder is over 250 miles to the west from me. Good information on the waste water injection wells and earthquakes. I'm more concerned about my area being affected by a potential major quake on the New Madrid fault.
I think the Quachita Mountains, where I live, would shield you. Looking at diagrams of potential damage from an 8.0 shake of the New Madrid, there would be more damaging to the east of the Mississippi River than anywhere else. Some quakes seem possible around Little Rock, running diagonally, and the same into southern Illinois. But the biggest bang looks to be western Tennessee and Northern Mississippi. And perhaps points even further east and north.
While the San Andreas has been studied and mapped extensively, there isn't anywhere near as much data on the New Madrid. And a big part of the dearth of information is that it's been pretty silent for over 200 years now. And it may be another 200 years before it acts up. YT always fear mongers and say "It's overdue", but they have no idea what that is, that it's just an wide ranging guess. You just can't live in fear of a guess. (One day, it'll blow. One day I'll keel over dead. I won't live in fear of either.)

Be very concerned. I’m in Graham, TX. We definitely felt. 154 miles from Snyder. Rumor has it that the big one will travel the edge of the North American Craton. Right up 135 to connect to New Madrid fault. Navy map is off.
@@candacegilbert7230 I was living in San Francisco in 1989 when we had the big earthquake, and it wasn't fun. What really got on my nerves were all the aftershocks, which went on for weeks afterwords. About the time I'd think that surely this was the last one, we'd have another one. What was interesting was the neighborhoods we thought would get the most damage in a big quake had little, if any, while no one expected the Bay Bridge to break, but it did.
Oh no you Denton feel it?😂 A New Madrid quake would definitely hurt especially if you are walking in Memphis.
I live in Lewisville I did not feel it but a lot of people in Lewisville and the DFW area felt both.

They say there are around 350k active wells in Tx. This does not include pumps that are not in use. There are many, many more fracking sites in Tx than anyone can imagine.
A drive through the backwoods will show an extensive network of oil and gas drilling. Drill baby drill?. Yep on it already.
Common sense says that perforations can't withstand, shaking, pressure or added weight as like solid can

There was a 4.0 earthquake in the Tyrrhenian sea,, Campania, Italy, by Campi Flegrei today at 1.46pm GMT. It was felt in Naples, only 4 km deep. Lots of swarming going on. Not shown then by USGS it would appear. On Discovery Earth.

That’s pretty normal for such an actively volcanic region and a huge fault line running through the sea.
Lots of people don't know what that note on the USGS page clearly says -- that it doesn't show quakes of magnitude smaller than 4.5 outside North America.
TexNet shows it as a 4.9 now. Says 3.9 km depth from ground surface
My guess is that these are related to the recent Cascadia plate pressure as all of the recent quakes seem to be more distant than previous locations but form a perimeter where human deformation of the terrain has created instability, either by injecting wastewater into previously empty ground formations or by fracking and pumping out embedded oil deposits.
As we have created weak points in the upper layers of the crust, these are collapsing first rather than allowing the Cascadia region to build up enough pressure for a massive release as previously witnessed in geologic records as it can be more or less a honeycomb of empty pockets in areas previously filled by aquifers and oil reserves, but this mass has shifted to other previously empty regions which change the dispersion of weight across the North American plate.
How long this strategy might prove successful is anyone's guess as we are playing with forces we don't fully comprehend.

Cool quake. Everybody should see the ETN guy's video where he explains that this quake was in the San Andreas fault or Cascadia and decided to move to Texas before happening. He complains that he loses viewers when he informs us of quakes moving from the US west coast around the Pacific Plate to happen in Indonesia, etc., so I'm trying to help him get new ones.

I'm from Snyder and it's been strange--they're blaming it on fracking because they're more shallow than others. But we've been fracking around here for a long time. We're smack in the middle of big oil.

Loraine tx, had shaking, I thought at first, it was pouring down rain, then I heard a big boom, and my house was shaking, I was lying on my sofa, it started shaking, then it intensified, raised the floor, a lil in the middle of my living room, have a lil.sinking on one side, and then another one hit few days later, and my kitchen, and daughters bedroom, was shaking pretty good, I almost couldn't stand up, then it stopped. I was shocked, I can't imagine a bigger one! But , earthquakes are. every where, signs of the Lord's coming, I'm trying to figure out ,should I run outside ,or stay in the house, I'm praying ,the big one doesn't come, earthquakes are so scary, I worry about all my family, and my grand children ,and great grand babies, it's stressful, pray, God takes care of all tx. Families .

I'm looking at cross sections of the West Texas geology, I don't think they considered how damaging the water being injected back into the wells would be to the salt formations down there. It looks pretty darned spooky. Glad I don't live there!

Curious as to how the earlier earthquakes were plotted on maps? Approximation?
I live in Astoria, Oregon. We are about 1.5 miles up (Columbia) river from the ocean. We dont get much info about what to do during an earthquake/tsunami/etc.. I dont know how it would affect us on the river? A lot of our town is built on hills, and not built with disasters in mind, so I would think landslides would be a risk, as well as flooding, especially in the flat areas (we are surrounded by water on 3 sides, like a peninsula).
Everyone keeps saying we're having earth quakes yet I haven't felt anything as of yet. I'm located in Central Tx😊

Sensationalize much? Fracking can go as deep as 20000'. Plates, which are tremendous in size, start around 50mi down, and are on average 125mi's thick.

Over in Snyder tx every week, waste water ponds are fresh water, not much drilling in that area for a couple year's, they do injection all the drilling is Carlsbad NM through tx down to Mexico those areas do heavy fracking, felt the earth quakes in post tx,the formation is honey comb so fracking is essential wouldn't be feasible to drill if they didn't frac formation,if you want to do environmental complaints make sure oilfields get good cement jobs that's the key to not polluting fresh water

@@jeannelocke8852 oh yes yes I’m fine-epicenter for the NJ quakes has always been in the same 5-10 miles area, about 13 miles from me, on USGS most are in Califon now but the first was Whitehouse Station-Tewksbury. The Ramapo fault line runs the length of NJ and while we have a number of very small 1s and 2s yearly, most go unnoticed…the last 4.5+ was late 1700s I believe. The 2s and 3s though do cause water main breaks and some structural issues, a bridge collapsed on a busy roadway. We can’t handle anything more than a 3.0. By all accounts and the distance the 4.9 on 4/5 travelled, many still feel it was over 5.5, but in reading a report USGS did about 15 years ago, a 4.9 in CA feels differently than a 4.9 in NJ because of the shale, rock we have (it’s incredibly rocky in most areas of NNJ, digging a hole is tedious!) from what I understand it makes the vibrations more rigid/violent, more able to feel and hear from further away. I think what is unsettling to me is the 1s that are 15 miles away, we feel them as if they’re under our feet. Lots of times we hear them more than feel-explosions that are not the same as munitions tests we hear from military bases in the state. I was also told that recently USGS installed a monitoring system in our town because of the amount of reports they get.
