Hi Stephen. Most of the crested newts will remain aquatic all year round in captivity but if they show any signs of stress in the water they are removed to a terrestrial setup.
Interesting and thanks. I am currently rearing Italian crested juveniles and Alpine juveniles. Really enjoying them and the advice here has been great. I feed them frozen bloodworm and chopped small earthworms.

Could you talk about the water parameters, especially at what temperature do you keep the newts?
Why don't you just put them in a terrestrial setup ?
